Community on the Camino as a SOLO Hiker | Days 8-12
In the third video in my Camino de Santiago series I'm lucky to be joined by one of my friends for a few years, but even luckier to have made incredible friends on the trail already! Hiking as a solo female often offers its own challenges, but most of these are offset by the incredible community on the Camino.

Loved this video! I’m taking on Toubkal in September Which company did you book your hike through?
Loved your video about the Camino! Your tips and insights were very helpful. I recently walked the Portuguese route and shared my story on my channel
Note to self: Take an umbrella.
🤣🤣 your Camino friends would be able to spot you from a distance at least!
please continue to post more videos. You are very good at documenting your experiences. how about a tour of your hometown in Wales.
@@kotcherd Thank you, that's very kind! I have filmed quite a lot of videos (and will post one in Wales next I think) but been so busy doing more hiking trips and adventures that I haven't had time to edit it 😅😅 I will post as soon as possible 🤞
How many days do you plan to walk before you have. a rest day, Just like the movie you are meeting lots of people.
@@KylieDrummond Thanks for watching! I walked for 12 days, then stopped for 2 rest days, and then walked the final 19 days without any more rest days :)
Looking forward to more 🙂
@@gfree8037 thank you! Glad you've enjoyed 😊
Really enjoying your videos.
Did you have to arrange where you would stay “hostel’s” with a company or did you kind of winged it?
Hi! Definitely would not recommend using an organised company for the Camino, it's a complete waste of money! In my case walking in March we could just walk in the front door of hostels and ask for a bed. If you go in the summer it would be busier so you might need to book in advance online, but you can do it 1-2 days at a time as you go 😊 no need to book the whole thing at the beginning!!
@@summitwithsophie I agree, I reached out to one of the many tour guide and they were giving me a quote of $8,000 for the France route!! I will continue to research and hopefully plan a trip soon. Thank you for your advice.
@@birdman67g21 wow! That's about 4x what my whole trip cost 😅😅 good luck with the planning, you'll have a great time!
@@summitwithsophie Thank you.
Im thinking of walking this route in March 2025 (not sure early or later in the month). Thanks for sharing.
Awesome! I'm sure you'll have a great time, really glad I chose to walk in March so I hope it'll be good for you too 😊
So sweet that your friends decided to take a couple of rest days too 😭 loved this, looking forward to the next chapter!
@@amym8785 Thank you Amy, it's so sweet of you to leave a kind comment as well 🥰
So lovely to relive that time with you guys through your videos <3
It is for me as well 🥹 Makes me nostalgic every time
Can I ask what time of year you were walking?
Of course! I walked March - April 2024. As you saw in the video it was sometimes very cold (as low as 1 degree one day) but into April it even got up to 32 degrees so we had the full range of weather!
I’m so glad you found such lovely friends ❤ looking forward to the next instalment and hoping you come back for the next stage feeling better
I'm also glad I found such lovely friends! 😊😊
So excited for this newest instalment of your big adventure! Seems like you faced some challenges in this one but nice to see your new friendships helping you through :D Can't wait for whatever's next!
Definitely some challenges this time, you can hear that I'm sick at the end 🤣 But the company really was the best 🥰
I’m currently in Logrono following the schedule as you. Thanks for the preview.
Amazing! I hope you have the most incredible time 😊😊
You are brave very nice places
Thank you!
Absolute boss video - cannot wait for the next one :))
Will try to get it to you quickly 😁
Loved your Vlog. Brought back good memories completed the Frances on 15th June. I agree Estelle was a great town.
Glad it brings back good memories! It definitely makes me very nostalgic making the videos 😊
When did you walk it?
I started mid-March 2024 and finished mid-April 2024 😊
Well done 🙌🏼
Thank you!
i am due to go July 2024 in about two weeks thanks for the video and im from Swansea Diolch yn fawr
Have an amazing time! It was truly an incredible experience for me
Very good video beatiful places
Thank you!
There is no "off season".
Very true, Sarria was incredibly busy 🤣 But you knew what I meant, of course
Buen Camino! It brought back nice memories. (Summer 2019)
Thank you! I hope I'll get a chance to do another soon 🙌
Thank you for sharing your video! It is quite cheerful and motivating. I am looking forward to going there.
Thank you, I hope you have the best time!!
Thank you for this! I've been a glamper for years, but looking to start wild camping with my kids. These are the same fears I share, down to the lighting the stove (I usually work on electric cookers) so this massively helped! I think I know what campsite you were on too, so may have to go there for our first trip.
I also have a MAHOOSIVE dog for comfort too though, but I imagine if it got too real, he'd save himself.
Glad you enjoyed the video! Hopefully the dog would scare people off even if he'd run away if it came to it 🤣
Buen Camino 👋🏽
Gracias!!
Being sick really sucks on the camino. I'm glad to hear that you were feeling better quickly and it did not derail your schedule. One day on my walk few months ago, I had food poisoning and couldn't go to sleep at all that night. Surprisingly, I was able to walk 20km next morning without any problem.
Wow! That's quite impressive. One of my friends got food poisoning in Santiago and he was stuck in bed for about 48 hours running to and from the bathroom. Don't think he'd have been able to do 20km! Not sure what happened to me on the night in this video, I think I just had a weird dizzy spell for some reason 🥲
Yeah ! She's super cool 🤭✌️
Looks like you had an amazing adventure even only in the first week! I feel a bit jealous 😃 Can't wait to see what comes next :)
Next time you can come with me :}
Enjoying your video. Interesting perspective, I live in Phoenix AZ and 30 degrees Celsius sounds wonderful.
Thanks for watching! I'm not sure living in Phoenix would be for me 🤣🤣 I'm so bad in hot weather!!
looove it !!!
Thanks Fynn!!! 😁
such a fantastic journey shared with you ! can’t wait to watch the next weeks :))
Thanks Woodyyyyy
I smiled through most of this ❤️ except the bits where I wanted to hug you. I love watching your adventure unfold x
It's so nice to watch it back 😊😊
A tip when in Spain, for lunch, ask for the "Menu Del Dia". This will cost not much. It is also great if you do not speak the language or do not understand the dialect. There will be a choice of 3 starters and 3 main courses. Then a desert or a coffee and includes water, wine or (My favorite) wine and Gaseosa. Don't overdo it with the wine. No need to empty the bottle. And I often just pick the second starter and the third main course they offer. No idea what I am getting, but that is the nice part of it. You get what the locals eat and learn new food. Do not expect anything fancy. And yes, this works in larger cities as well. Just look for signs that say Menu Del Dia. Just know most will only start lunch at 14:00 or later.
Great tips! I definitely did this at times when I was on the Camino 😊
Aren't you worried about a gun walking up and killing you? Or I mean a knife killing you? Solo camping would give me the creeps. You may want to move those leaves away from the flames. Have fun.
Guns can't walk, Richard 🤣🤣🤣 To be serious though, I'm not really worried about guns in the UK. I am worried about knives, which is why I was scared in the video! I think it's irrational though - most people who get stabbed are stabbed in the city, not in the woods. I like trying to face my fears, and I think the real danger is quite low 😊 Thanks for watching!!
@@summitwithsophie Well, you know guns kill people so I thought maybe guns creep around at night. 😱😂 Seriously, I love camping and walking around late at night. Just me and the stars. I'm more worried about the people than the bears and mountain lions. Sitting on a log in Yosemite at 2:00 AM. is absolute heaven to me. 🤗 Everyone needs to get into the great outdoors and live a little. It's the best stress reliever I can think of! 🙂
Awesome! Are you planning to release new videos (your second and subsequent days on the Camino)?
Yes, I will do! Hopefully next one coming next week. Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed 😊
If you dont mind sharing, what was the cost of the rental car?
Incredibly cheap!!! I paid £53 for the whole week INCLUDING full coverage. Unfortunately the service from the car company I used was not very good, but I saw plenty of other companies renting at similar prices from Santiago de Compostela 😊😊
@@summitwithsophie Good to know. That's less than what we pay for one day where I live. Keep up the good work. Really enjoying all your videos.
@@tejave0ojnc Thank you, that's very kind and I'm glad you enjoyed!
magic adventure
Thank you!
Thanks for sharing. Me and my wife plan to climb this mountain this November ..... We're both in our mid sixties!
Good luck! You will have an amazing time 😊 I hope I'll still be doing things like this in my 60s as well!
Amazing sound waoo
It looks like a lovely route, thanks for sharing 😊
❤ the islands, I'll have to look them up I love the isolated feeling too - nobody knowing where I am Thanks for sharing, Sophie
They're beautiful! Hopefully you get a chance to go 😊 thank you for commenting
May I ask what dates you began and ended your journey? Thanks
Sure! I began the Camino on 19th March and I arrived in Santiago on the 20th April. The whole thing took 33 days but only 31 days of walking, as I took 2 rest days in the middle 😊
@@summitwithsophie Thanks for the reply...I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of your videos.
Amazing
Hugs from Brazil Sophie.
Thank you Stanley!
