Eco Bundling - How to Naturally Dye Your Own Clothes
In this video, I’m taking you step by step through the process of eco bundling as I dye a few thrifted shirts. Working with natural dyes is such a fun and rewarding creative way of working - especially when you can use natural dyes to transform secondhand items and give them new life.
Dye practices vary from artist to artist, and what I’m showing you today is a bit of a simplified method that’s easy to do at home with what you have on hand. I hope it inspires you to try out naturally dyeing! Let me know in the comments what you think about this process and if you’re going to give it a go!
What I’m sharing is just a small slice of the knowledge that’s out there. If you’re interested in eco bundling, I encourage you to do more research and try out different methods and materials. Check out resource links below for ways you can learn more about natural dyes, as well as purchase dye materials if you wish (I have no affiliations with any natural dye brands, these are simply my suggestions).
I’ll definitely be making a lot more videos about natural dyes because there is so much I want to share with you. If you have ideas for anything you’d like to see me dye, or any dye processes you’d like me to teach, let me know in the comments as well! See you soon and keep creating :)

Redesigning Thrifted Button Downs | Thrift Flip
มุมมอง 2.4K3 ปีที่แล้ว
This week I challenged myself to redesign 6 thrifted button down shirts. Reusing and reshaping materials is really important to me as an artist, because I want to reduce textile waste, rather than add to it. So I’m on a mission to make a more sustainable/environmentally friendly wardrobe - one that lets me play and explore creatively. This video is part 1 of 2, so I’m showing you 3 shirts. I wa...
Making a Lamp From Old Sweaters | Thrift Flip
มุมมอง 8213 ปีที่แล้ว
In this video, I’m upcycling a hanging pendant light using yarn. I found this pendant lamp at a hotel liquidation store, which is a business that sells used hotel furnishings. I have been wanting to use the yarn-wrapping technique in a lighting project, so I figured this was the perfect lamp to try it out on. The yarn I’m using is upcycled from secondhand sweaters, so this is a fully upcycled p...
Making a Quilt Coat | Repurposing Damaged Quilts into Wearable Clothing
มุมมอง 39K3 ปีที่แล้ว
In this video, I’m sharing my process of sewing a quilt coat from start to finish. It’s one of my most asked-about products, and I wanted to share everything that goes into making these amazing quilted jackets. For my coats, I use antique quilts with damages, like stains or tears, because I’m a big supporter of repurposing and upcycling (and because I can’t bring myself to cut up a perfectly go...

I love the repurposing of a quilt that mean't so much to someone earlier and is given new life to who makes it into a coat! Great job! I am a quilter not a sewer but I so want to try and do this! 🥰

I'm just finding this & love all of your coats! I was so hoping when you cut out the green one you were going to have the half square triangle border at the bottom. You did have it on the sleeves. But it still came out great 🥰🥰 My favorite was the red & blue star quilt!!

You never followed up with the mordant process which is vital for color setting or all the work you're demonstrating is useless.

You make sewing look so incredibly easy! I used to sew and make my own clothes, but have not seen for many years. I’m working on getting my studio together and I will start sewing again. I hope it comes as naturally to me as it is to you.

I swear My Grandma made that quilt. I had the exact copy with pink lining the 9squares grid. My grand father even wore a shirt with tiny red cats on it, and the brown moon disk thingys. My pink quilt was also square, and had alot of the candy cane plaids on it. Thank you for making my dream appear, a cozy coat made with real memories.

I have been looking for this video for MONTHS! And I have just the quilt to do this with. My first queen size quilt that I made for my hubby and I has damaged fabric pieces on it (ALL the same fabric!). I’m thinking that, bc I don’t like the green backing fabric close to my face, that I’ll add other fabric (probably a Grunge) as facings for the front and cuffs.

Beautiful coat, thanks for sharing :) Just wondering - do you ever use the original edges of the quilt for hems or pockets etc? I'm interested to see how some of the original details can be preserved. Thanks for sharing your process, totally inspired!
