RAISING BEEF CATTLE FOR BEGINNERS – Treating Bloat In Cattle ... and Trying to Save My Bull!
In this thirteenth video in my series "Raising Beef Cattle for Beginners," I saw that my bull was standing around and didn't seem to be his "chipper" self. When I got closer, I noticed that he was dangerously bloated! Over the next couple of days, I tried multiple ways to try and reduce the bloat. Check out my video to see what I did ... and how it turned out.

This is quite brutal for someone who has never been around animals before, defently some shock factor. But I have lots of respect, amazing skills. I am jealous, want to be more self sufficient and connected to reality. I have watched dozens of butchering videos, most don't really bother me, once the head is gone or it's quartered, but starting from a live animal is a little different, when I was a kid I use to butcher my rabbits from beginning to end, I guess I was a very skill 6-10 year old and was told to go outside and but her a rabbit, no supervision. But my parents were both gone by the time I was 10 and don't really remember anything prior to that. Just bought a large abandoned farm, and trying to decide what and how much of I am going to be doing on it. Thanks for the content

My bull was a low birth weight. My uncle gave me him. He is now going on 4, very tame and VERY big and bulky boy. My heifer was a high birth weight and I don’t know much about cows but I think she looks good. They had a heifer calf together that was also high birth weight like her mom. And she’s 7 months and BEEY bulky and big. Personally I think they look incredible. I’m here trying to learn everything I can to starting my own cattle herd. We have 4 Bull, cow. Their heifer calf we plan to eat at 2. And my new heifer that’s 6 ish months I’m raising to breed

Cattle will kill each other because of rank. This is the downside of "freerange" cattle..Now, that dude is a professional slaughter. He has probably processed tens of thousands of cattle before this. Knifehands takes time to be that familiar and confident.

We experienced this with a Jersey cow we use as a nurse cow. My teenage son noticed her looking "fat" which made me look to see that was just down her left side. I'd personally never seen bloat before. Got my very experienced cattleman husband and he said was bloating. Her side never got as huge as seen towards the end of this video. My husband's instructions were to dry lot her. That meant pulling her out of her pen and no water and no food. By next morning had a cow patty mess all over and put her back in the pen. It was over 100 degree hottest part of our summer so far and getting grain and some alfalfa for her milk feeding a calf and still providing family milk (she previously was nursing 3 calves). We ultimately backed off almost all the grain and alfalfa using oat hay instead and left her to just the calf instead of calf and some family milk after she did this a second time. In our case a happy ending.

I really like the way that you were very conscious of waste and the fact that you respected the animal every bit of that I’ve seen before haven’t been raised on a farm. Death is nothing more than part of life wasting that calf. I feel would’ve been disrespectful to the animal, so very well done
