0:20 Close the book, we’re not doing that!
I WAS 7 YEARS OLD WHEN I SAW THAT MOVIE IT WAS THE OF EE.UU IN THOSE YEARS
Man, it never gets old...
Maybe the best intro superhero
John Williams..
This will never ever get old!! You just had to have been there!
The only thing better is Woody Allen always waiting until after the movie to show the "opening" titles.
Imagine seeing this for the first time . Still gives me chills. The lettering flying through the air with the motion trails and flying sound just gets me every time . Takes me back to my childhood . Super great memories even though the special effects are out dated no other superman movie can match the authenticity and originality of this film . Chris Reeves will always be the one and only superman besides the real superman who is Jesus .
AND NOW!!!!!!!!!!!! ACTS CHAPTER TWO HOLY SALVATION! ALRIGHT HEAVENLY SO! REPENTANCE AND BAPTIZM IN THE NME OF LORD JESUS CHRIST FOR THE REMISSION OF SINS AND YOU SHALL RECIEVE THE GIFT OF THE HOLY GHOST! ACTS 2 38!!!!!!!!!!!

Incredible that on 1978 they could do this type of intro
Apparently Richard Donner was the only director who was not willing to make the movie campy and silly like the Adam West Batman show. He actually wanted less comedy and more seriousness.
Transitioning from a classic old black & white film of the comic book into the world of that comic is my favorite part of this intro.
I’m here because this is what puts my 2 year old son to sleep.
This brings me back to my childhood (14 y/o) and waiting in line for the movies in Philly. Even though it's fictional, As the iconic opening theme of the 1977 "Superman" movie resonates, I'm reminded of the profound sacrifices made by Superman's parents. They sent their only son across the stars to ensure his survival. This lonely immigrant from a distant world, despite his extraordinary powers, humbles himself to lead a life of hard work and dedication. Driven by a deep sense of duty and compassion, he tirelessly works to protect and save others, embodying the ultimate heroism and selflessness.
Controversial opinion maybe but I've always hated that key change at 1:42
I was a baby when Superman the movie came out in theaters back in 1978. Then becoming a fan of Superman in the early 80’s and now into the future of today 2025, I am still a fan of Superman until I am no longer here on planet Earth.
The greatest opening scene/credit sequence in the history of cinema... never gets old
Sarah Douglas should have had her own credit spotlight.
John Williams como siempre, se lució 🎶
Aqui en Lima Peru, mi viejita me llevo de niño a ver esta peli al cine Pacifico de miraflores. Ella me presento a Superman. Y despues, todas las tardes esperaba su regreso del trabajo, porque me traia figuritas del album que yo, coleccionaba. Grandes recuerdos en torno a esta joya cinematografica.
I have to admit this opening credits scene was magnificent for its time. Absolutely blew me away. John Williams at his very best!
This and Returns were my most favorite movies of all time
How did they do those "3D" fonts in 1977 without CGI? Really amazing.
All these years, I had no idea that Christopher Reeve’s name was not listed first, his name was listed after the title Marlon Brando and Gene Hackman’s name were listed before his, I guess it was because those two were more famous than Reeve!
Who gives a f*** what people say today, Christopher Reeve will be forever Superman. The one and only Superman!
it will NEVER get much better than this. seeing this in the theater as a child was a biblical experience
My dad said this and the opening to star wars were the greatest things he ever experienced in a movie theater
Periodically, I just need to re-experience the chills. Hasn't lost an ounce of power from 1978 to 2025 -
Amazing intro - would have loved to been in a cinema in December 1978 seeing this intro for the first time
1:29 1:33 😮😮😮😮😮
Even in *2025* , this still looks *timeless*
THIS IS THE GOLD STANDARD OF SUPER HERO MOVIES ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ Disney execs need to sit down and watch this before they destroy another franchise...
2025.
Toujours les frissons 40 ans après la sortie de ce classique ❤
I was 8 when this came out. My Dad and I went to see it over and over again. It stands up beautifully. My kids love it.
Saw this with my date at a theater in Torrance when it premiered. Even had the Superman "S" on my van. Noticed that the original Superman and Lois Lane made a cameo in the Smallville scene.
And so began the era of the superhero movies
This is the United States of America! Here lies the source of our strength! Long live the American hero!
This movie minus Williams score = null
REEVE first place BRANDO and HACKMAN only after !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! this year's scandal
YOU DAMN RIGHT Finally someone said the exact words I said I was 10 years old when I first saw Christopher Reeves in that suit it looked like he walked out of the comic book from the spit curl blue eyes and bright red boots and yellow S on the back of the cape my 10 year old self knew it was Superman I don’t feel like that with this new guy James Gunn movie 😢But the OG Superman is always CR all day
Out of all of the actors who portray Superman, it has to be Christopher Reeve and Tom Welling. So, IYF James Gunn!
"I owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to John Williams. Without his music, Superman's powers are greatly diminished. Believe me, if you try to fly without that theme....you go nowhere. One step, two steps and.....(whistles)...down." Christopher Reeve (1993)
How the hell is this opening still so cool in 2024???? That freaking “S” with that freaking music theme, pure perfection! Masterpiece of all times!
Could be the people who made it and also one early piece of Superman media besides the cartoons old tv shows
John Williams
Lembro quando criança, assisti esse filme pela primeira em uma TV velha aqui de casa, logo nessa abertura com essa trilha sonora marcante, foi muita emoção. Nunca mais senti essa emoção nos filmes atuais de "Super heróis".
When you watch this on 5.1 Home Theatre System the sound actually goes around and behind you and it's quite the amazing sound experience.
Came here after seeing the New superman trailer Had to come bak & experience this AWESOME INTRO RIP CR!!! you will never b replaced
Yep!
