I hate to see so much plastic on the ground. Aside from that, beautiful farm. Landscape fabric= microplastic leaching into soil and into fruit. Hot sun & rain don't mix with plastic.

tree growth habits appear to pulling more American persimmon than Asian? tall columnar? will they grow in low chill areas?

I saw a funny technique a guy used to get a persimmon tree to shake its fruit loose. He climbed up and then used his body to shake the tree about 8-10ft up, then he came down and we enjoyed some fruit haha. I forget how thick the tree was was compared to the one you see at 1m55s.

I have a wild persimmon growing next to my workplace. It's at most quarter size, but so flavorful and tasty albeit slightly astringent. I can tell one thing - I never tasted any better persimmon in my life.

I personally think they should be two different species botanically. They have different amounts of chromosomes and won’t cross breed naturally.

When and at what temps do you graft persimmon? I had 0 success with it this spring.

I’d like to buy some scions of something other than an Asian. I have a big persimmon in my yard that refuses to take Asian grafts. They’ll grow to over 24” and die every time. I’ve been trying to graft Fuju to it for many years. I’ve never had a persimmon tree do that before. When I bought it as a very small tree the Saijo graft died out. I have 2 more Asians (Fuju and Chocolate) in my pasture that I bought and neither was grafted as I found out years later of waiting so I wasted money on those. I want to graft those also. I’m in USDA Zone 8A so no worries with cold weather affecting them. We’re still in the mid 90s in mid October. 96 forecast tomorrow.

Cliff didn't have Sophie grafted yet when I was there. Does he have it grafted yet? Also can I buy some of the hybrid pollen?

Amazing show-and-tell as always, wish I lived closer to Sandgap and could visit more easily, Cliff's place is a treasure trove of wonderful trees and warm hospitality. Nice to see all of those fruiting so nicely.

I live in Southern Ontario, in the northern most range of Paw Paws. But I know they grow here because people are selling seeds. I am now stratifying about 2 dozen seeds. Hopefully I can have some survive and ,well, let's see what I can get to grow.

Hey there! What a nice video. I live in Douglas County, NE. The plant hardiness zone is split between 5b and 6a. In your professional opinion, which cultivar would thrive best here? Also, can you tell me which cultivar(s) of Asimina triloba were MOST preferred by the Eurytides marcellus? In other words, after release, were there cultivars preferred for egg laying over others? Many thanks in advance. 🙂

Do grow seedling trees get taller then the cultivars and how much taller? I only have cultivars, but maybe I will sow a few from the biggest fruits.

What a coincidence! 🤨🙄 A fruit like Asimina triloba or other members of the annonaceae family that has promising characteristics to fight cancer and studies are being done to relate some of its characteristics to something very bad like the possibility that one day, if you consume many fruits of the annonaceae family, drink tea from its leaves and buds or anything else you can think of with these plants, you may suffer from a disease of the parkinsonism spectrum.

I love the front yard pawpaw orchard! Moved from Mass to Rhode Island, just got my first crop. I can imagine people must snag some fruits from those trees next to the sidewalk!
