I feel like the graphics looking bad helped back in the day. My mind would transform any creature into whatever my subconscious would fear the most. Also, if a game controls in a way that makes you feel constantly vunlerable, that helps a lot.

To me the music and beats aren't the problem... I can go an entire all floor run without missing a music beat. I'm quite good at rythm games, and being a percussionist for 15 years also helped... I ended up beating a cadence all floors run from never playing the game in about 6 hours. 99% of which was just learning enemy and boss patterns. The problem is the characters have such dumb or stupid play styles it gets frustrating. Also me being dumb and hitting a wall on accident when I clearly had my brain tell my finger to do a different action

Sound design is huge part of it for me. Resident Evil 2, the original, is the best entry in the series for me in that and several other respects. The moaning, shambling blank-faced zombies actually felt like mindless husks, unfeeling and uncaring, guided by basic instinct. The remake's angry-faced snarlers make me think of enthusiastic zombiewalk marchers. Nothing in them works for me. Though I have to give it to the remake that Tyrant/Mr.X stomping around looking for player was a real step up.

Shouldn’t the PSN network be more accurate since it tracks all people who have the game? You have to sign in to PSN Profiles to track your stats and only trophy hunters do that.

Whenever i see these kinds of videos they just feel pretentious, I've never been scared of the original resident evils but playing RE2 remake at 1 am shook me to my core. And what about games like outlast? Or fricking P.T.? What are you guys thinking? Just say a game is scary or not comparing the past with the present in this context is unnecessary.

I think one factor with old game models is that they remain in a zone between recognizable and unrecognizable, so you have to keep constant attention. The more realistic models on the other hand are clearly recognizable, so do not require such attention. Your brain registers them once and can be relaxed afterwards. This constant need for attention makes older games scarier.

I know exactly what you mean and i agree. Did you play vr horrorgames ? Damn, thats scary as hell . Try paradise hotel, blairwitch, etc, very intense . Is recommend the meta quest 3.

My theory is that older games were made by artists who wanted to tell a story or try out a new experience, new games are 99% made by huge companies that only cares about profits. Im a huge survival horror fans with a kink for grotesque monster, and it was sad to see that monsters nowadays almost looks the same! its always this giant with huge arms and claws, probably cus thats whats "hipp" now.

I'm sure this has already been said but just in case: the reason for the percentage disparity when looking at the trophies on PSNProfiles and looking at them on your system is that PSNprofiles only tracks PSN accounts that have been logged on PSNprofiles. So if you never had your account logged on PSNprofiles, it wouldn't show up which is why the percentage is much much lower than it is on the playstation network. The percentage seen on your console is the far more accurate number.

The scariest game I ever played was a half life mod, I think it was called nightmare house… idk why but I remember the way that game looked and felt just offput me so much. I could barely play it.

Is it healthy that developers have achievements like this? It feels like if I attempted these achievements, I would be questioning my life choices about how I got here. Maybe because it's a rogue-like it might be bearable since there's some variety and no pure repeats, but it still sounds insufferable.

Another reason, maybe silly, but perhaps the game were scarier because you played them when you were younger, a child even. As an adult you are less surprised because you have seen it before.

It is not about "Old Horror Games Are Much Scarier" No! It's about repetition effect. It feels less scary after you have played tons of horror games.

god i remember drowning so many times as a kid tryna beat nightmare creatures 2. when i got the game it was on ps2 even though we had a ps1 as well we didnt have a memory card for it to save. at the time i remeber staying up for 2 days straight tryna beat the game until someone bumped the game and i lost all my progress. i'll probably try to play it again when i get around to buying new cords and a memory card again but man was it rough when i waas younger.

Old games are more scarrier because we were much younger when we played them.

On steam, looking at the global stats, there are two achievements that are at 0%. These are from the synchrony dlc, and I'm unsure if they were there from its initial release (2022), or if they were only added with the recent full release (March 2024). I'm still surprised either way that they're sitting at 0% right now. One is all zones co-op with cadence, dorian, melody, and aria. The other achievement is possessing teh urn as chaunter. Teh urn is another RNG thing like the green bat. It has a .5% of spawning per floor if it hasn't already spawned in the run, in comparison the bat is ~.02% of spawning per room in a floor. Teh urn also shows up in a secret room so you have to thoroughly search every floor for it... I can now see why they're both at 0%.

Ac 1 had achievements though...
