The Viet Cong and the South Korean Army were both significant military forces during the Vietnam War, but they had very different roles and characteristics. Here’s a comparison: ### Viet Cong **Background:** - The Viet Cong (VC), also known as the National Liberation Front (NLF), was a communist insurgent group operating in South Vietnam. - They were supported by North Vietnam, the Soviet Union, and China. - The VC aimed to overthrow the South Vietnamese government and reunify Vietnam under communist rule. **Tactics:** - The VC used guerrilla warfare, including ambushes, booby traps, and hit-and-run attacks. - They had a strong knowledge of the local terrain, which they used to their advantage. - The VC also engaged in psychological warfare, aiming to win the "hearts and minds" of the rural population. **Structure:** - The VC was a mix of regular army units and local guerrilla forces. - They often operated in small, highly mobile units. - Many VC fighters were local villagers, which made it difficult for U.S. and South Vietnamese forces to distinguish them from non-combatants. **Impact:** - The VC played a crucial role in the Tet Offensive of 1968, a coordinated series of attacks that had a significant psychological impact on the U.S. public and policymakers. - Despite suffering heavy casualties, the VC continued to be a persistent threat throughout the war. ### South Korean Army **Background:** - The South Korean Army (Republic of Korea Army, ROKA) was a conventional military force. - South Korea was one of the U.S. allies that sent troops to support South Vietnam. - Approximately 300,000 South Korean soldiers served in Vietnam from 1964 to 1973. **Tactics:** - The ROKA conducted conventional military operations, including search-and-destroy missions, counter-insurgency operations, and securing key areas. - They were known for their discipline and effectiveness in combat. **Structure:** - The ROKA was a well-organized and well-trained force, benefiting from U.S. military support and training. - They had access to modern weapons and equipment provided by the U.S. **Impact:** - South Korean forces were highly effective in combat, earning a reputation for their toughness and ability to operate in difficult conditions. - They played a significant role in counter-insurgency operations and in securing areas in South Vietnam. ### Comparison - **Tactics:** The VC relied on guerrilla tactics, while the ROKA used conventional military strategies. - **Support:** The VC were supported by North Vietnam and other communist allies, whereas the ROKA were backed by the U.S. - **Structure:** The VC was a mix of regular and irregular forces, while the ROKA was a conventional army with formal training and organization. - **Impact:** Both forces had significant impacts on the war, but in different ways-the VC through persistent guerrilla warfare and psychological impact, and the ROKA through effective conventional military operations. Each force’s contribution to the Vietnam War was shaped by its unique strategies, support systems, and military structures.
Behind the invincible S.Korean army, many of the Vietnam War veterans who returned home suffered damage from Agent Orange and suffered many aftereffects, including being born with deformed babies.

this is just a comedy for vietnamese people. if korea was at strong as the movie. viet nam would not have won the usa. in the end, viet nam has both regions and korea doesn't have the north
Win to be king, lose to make a movie Most of the Korean movies made about the Vietnam War are not historically accurate. It is true that good male soldiers like them killed thousands of women and children in Vietnam.

Korea both north and south are idiot. South should protect it's self from north. Their military is nothing. They are killing the innocent Farmer of Vietnam.
The ROK soldier did a better job of fighting the NBA and VC than ours did. Unlike OUR hippie civilians, the South Koreans weren't spineless cowards who refused to support their soldiers.
When I was deployed to Iraq in 2007 I saw a small contingency of South Korean troops in their little part of the base....I was stationed at Camp Slayer and there was numerous other bases surrounding the BIAP....If I remember they had their own piece of land on Camp Liberty.....
Correction, the NLF were called Vietcong by the countries it fought against and thats what they’re known often known as (actually americans occasionally referred to them as “charlie”)
