Good luck man sounds like you are coming back from a pretty horrible accident 🤘
❤️
Get a wider board. You way too big to be riding a 7.5. Get a 7.75-8.0 deck.
Got it!
Is that a full sized board dude? Get on a 8.25 deck! Let’s twitchy so more reliable to flick, catch, and control !
Second comment about board size. It is a smaller deck. I can’t remember the dimensions. Do you think there is an upper limit. Like don’t go above 8.5?
@ yeah man, 8.25/8.125 was always the sweet spot for me. 8.5 if you’re like 6 foot plus and have a lot of leverage. But while learning it’ll be a bit harder to get it to rotate. The bigger boards are easier to catch and the flick is more consistent because you can be less precise. They move slower in the air - so if you go too big it’ll just take a lot more commitment and a stronger flick. And on the other hand if u riding a 7.75 or something, you’d have to be so perfect with your flick and catch as it’d all happen a split second faster - easier to learn to rotate, but much harder to get consistent as you have to be perfect with the catch. You can see it here how your feet are scrambling for space. Board just looks a few sizes too small tbh. Try an 8.25 if it’s easy to do so, you’ll love it ! Keeping In mind you’ve gotta get matching trucks otherwise it’ll feel awful.
Great feedback! Thanks for the reply.

HELL YEAH BRO KEE IT UP. Here's a tip, its harder to land any trick while not rolling so try to roll slow not too slow but a comfortable speed for you. Hope this helps mans keep it up
Thanks for the positive vibes and the tip! Noted.
You need a wider board and higher trucks
Oh, interesting take. The equipment might be wrong. I have never thought of that angle…this is what I have always skated on and never thought otherwise.
hell yeah that’s a step closer! i’m rooting for u🗣️🙏
Thanks for the positive vibes.
Right on!!!,what’s next after kick flip?
OOOhhhh, don't know yet. I am thinking about things that require balance and skill. Like maybe handstand walks...
Your vertical is crazy
Good to know being 44yo...Thanks!
so keep landing it with one foot only being the front foot first once you can flip land that foot on learn to do the same thing with only the back foot once you can catch the board basically with either foot flipping go for a land I wouldn't really adjust anything else at the moment
best of luck on your journey congratulations on your recovery
Thanks! Both for the advice and the words of encouragement.
@@soggywafflesmedia and you are welcome I hope it helps

Congrats brotha keep it going 🫡
👍👍
I recommend rolling even if it's slow
I have had this thought multiple times. I can certainly balance better with a little momentum. I think I am being overly cautious with my ankle.
I wish I could get as high as your jump!
Let's get to training it!!!
Congrats🎉🎉
Thanks!!!

There's a video talking about how to do the kickflip and how it's been told incorrectly For generations. A concept of sliding your toe forward it up and angle out the front of the board in order to get it to flip being incorrect. But if you widen your stance slightly and drag your foot straight out with a slight downward's motion in your toe. The first thing that happens is you all eat up and then slide your foot out and down which flips the board Instead of attempting to partially varial it. This is how they achieve the long hang time.Kick flips you see in a lot of really good videos. Ollie up. Slide foot strait out and slight toe flick downwards This also keeps your body centered moreover the board instead of sending the board out in front of you.Because there's very limited forward motion and it's all sideways and downloads
Yeah, I see my toe scrape going right up the nose of the board. Which would really pull it forward.
Love the positivity 👌
Thanks!
Good progress man!🎉🎉
❤️
You got everything right except for you are leaning back way to much throughout the flick. As you pop the weight shifts towards the back naturally to get that snap but the key to landing it is lifting your shoulders UP and centering yourself over the board as the flip starts. Then all you have to do is bring your front foot back into place and catch it to land
You want your back foot to be straight up and higher or even with your front foot as the board rotates under you. You’ll land bolts every time if you get what I’m saying
I hear yeah, it’s exactly what I see in videos.
👍
Mine is making a clicking noise unfortunately right out of the box.. I think it might be the chain is loose.
I think ours clicks too. I’ll look closer when I get to our gym.
Start your kickflip and only try to land one foot on the board. Once the board is landing how you want to then go for both feet.
Interesting thought. Removing the later half to focus on the front half of the trick.
Ollie, then flick. You can also pop more like a pressure flip to lift the rail to your flick more. I'd also try thinking about bringing your front foot up like you're trying to kick yourself in the back knee. Helps my pop control so much to pull my front foot more towards by back knee than just up. Works to get your flick later as well which makes it more stable.
Yeah, I definitely hurry my flick. Noted
Start in the grass
Grass rusts the board and it also prevents pop.
I was trying not to use aids. I might try putting the wheels in a crack to keep the board still.
@@soggywafflesmedia more about strengthening the muscles around ur knee cause a slip out after surgery is detrimental doesnt have to look goos just about gettin the feelin right and building strength before going 100% coming from 2 myself and my pops having 8 knee surgeries
@@morell1185 Yup I own a gym and believe in the power of rehab. My issue is the ankle more than the knee fortunately. But I went through a year of solid rehab and it feels good. Still taking it slow because its the best it has felt in a while.
Great video! I just got one for the family. It is currently sitting on its freight pallet in the garage.

@@soggywafflesmedia NO YOU GREATER COMMENT I WIN
@FreshTopEnd 😂
Great video! Thank you! The thing with the hips is a very good tip. I practiced wheeling this season very excessively. There are good days and there are bad days. You really need to move your butt/hips on the saddle to steer. Another thing I noticed recently is the position on the saddle. Try to move a few centimeters forward on the saddle. You will notice a significant change in how the wheelie feels. For me it feels a little bit more stable and easier to move the hips and steer.
Great addition about the seat! Glad you liked the video.
Thanks for posting this. I have just started looking onto buyong one of these. Have you tried it yet? If so how do you like it for bith pushing AND pulling?
Yes, we have used them for our kids program and adult in the gym. They are a lot like the echo bike. When you add more effort it’s like they push back. Pushing and pull by I would say better than a standard sled in many ways.
Keep ur hips locked in. Ur pulling ur body fs with ur hips
Alright! Thanks. Let’s see if I can control it
Can i ask if this kept happening to you after this - we had the same issue but it kept happening, ended up snapping at that crank bolt 😞
Oh dang that sucks…. I have one that needs to be tightened I am not sure if it is the same one.
Try bringing your front foot forward more towards the nose of the board
Thanks, I will give that a shot!
@soggywafflesmedia Andy Anderson has a skateboard with lines on it showing where you should slide your feet for certain tricks. You don't necessarily have to buy one but looking them up then traciing on your own board should help. They are called andy Anderson theory lines I believe. They have helped a lot of people from what I hear
Thank you for the great advice! I have put in about 30 practice sessions already this year and am still struggling with the bike falling off to the side quickly and having to abort. About one in 5 times it comes up straight and feels great, but why all the bad lifts? I'm trying to pay attention to hips being level, as you suggest, as well as to my pedal stroke and to my weight transfer back, but just can't find the solution for consistently straight wheel lifts. Any further suggestions?
Ok, you didn't mention it but it was in the video. So maybe you tried it. But I'll say it anyway. Try to make sure your knees are pointed out away from the bike. By pointing your knees out you widen your left/right balance angle. While you may still drift it wont be as drastic and you might be able to correct it. It also helps align your hips...which you said you are already doing. I noticed on some of my worst wheelie launches I was tucking my knees in towards the bike. Which makes make a very small balance angle. Dude if you are hitting 1 in 5...I know it sucks but in a few weeks it will be at 1 in 3. Your body WILL recode and learn. Even though 4 out of 5 times suck right now...they are exactly what you need to master the wheelie. Stay calm stay positive one day everything will just click. Focus on what feels right on that one correct one not what feels wrong on the bad ones.
@@soggywafflesmedia Thanks for reply! I had missed this tip in your video. I will try keeping my knees wider and see if that helps me come up straighter. Did you practice coming off the back of the bike? Being older I have wanted to skip that step. I do find the balance point quite often, it seems like it's just a matter of getting comfortable there and learning to maintain it.
@ebenf6768 I was pretty comfortable with that concept from my youth. We would intentionally try to kick the back wheel of the bike to the moon while holding on to the handle bars. I tried it a few times to make sure I had the muscle memory but did not spend any real time there.
These are brilliant insights, well done. Always said learners have so many more vital tips that most seasoned pro's.
Totally true. It’s amazing what you can forget. Without my notes I had already forgotten most of this. 😳
So you tried to learn manual for the first 15 days...
Yes basically…lol. I first read your message wrong. I am trying to learn manuals now…you comment makes too much sense.
Incredibly good tips here man, thank you very much for posting this. Can't wait to get out for a wheelie session!
Glad you like them. Let me know if they help!
Nice vid and great points. Just a couple of real basic things. One. Cover your back brake with your index finger. 2. Wear some elbow pads and a chest/ back plate. A life jacket will work. You're going to loop out. In fact , you should try to loop out and catch yourself with your feet. You will thank me the first time you hit the pavement on your back. Peace
Totally!
Dude, the hips!!!! Holy crap man. So, I've always been very sub-par at wheelies. I'm 46, ride a lot, coach NICA, yadda yadda.... I have been making an effort to get better at wheelies for good while. The part I keep not getting is being able to steer the bike once the front is up. I always drift off to one side after a few pedals, and then end up needing to abort. The hips explanation was so perfect! I went out, ride no hands and really felt what I do when I ride that way to steer. (I love riding no hands!) Then, I popped up a nice wheelie, and just concentrated on trying to steer with my hips. OH. MY. GOD! Thanks man. 🤘🏻
This comment is the absolute best. So glad it helped you!🔥🔥🔥
Nice job 👏 thanks Mate
Thanks for the positive vibes.
For me it is the 5th gear(28 teeth) of my 12-speed cassette that was/is the sweet gear for learning. For me it is much easier to get the front tire off the ground, and maintain the wheelie, in that gear. The most important thing in my case for learning and maintaining the wheelie is the back brake. I've said since the beginning: once you have the faith in the back brake, you're pretty much there. As far as the seat goes, just high enough so that my knees have a very slight bend. Good goin' on learning the wheelie! Long live the wheelie!!!!!
Well said about the brake. You need to be OK with the thought of looping out and grabbing the back brake to prevent it.
@@soggywafflesmedia Yes! Of all the dimensions to a straight forward wheelie, the back brake is the only one that made it take so long to learn. About 4 months is what it took me to gain almost full faith in the brake. The rest of the dimensions only took about a month. It was/is a blast even just learning the straight forward wheelie!
Took me forever to build the dexterity to modulate the brake enough to maintain the wheelie.
It is an awesome hike. Beautiful. Coming down was hard on my knees though. I am so glad I did it.
Couldn’t agree more. Every turn felt like it had something to view. Well worth the pain.
Wooooow! This is golden! Why didn't anyone mention this trick with hips? Why?! :) Gonna try it out after the work. Thank you!
Tell me it’s golden if it works for you. LOL. Good luck!!!!
Keep your head up don't stare down at the front wheel
Know what… this s a good one. Your head determines posture and your eyes determine where the bike will go. At times I still have no idea where I am looking when in a wheelie.
This what did it for me I started focusing on the horizon Instead and it's made a huge difference
@860_HUNTER alright. I see you.i know i am only looking a few feet ahead.
What are the next basic biking skill you planning to pick up ? Thanks for the great video
Manual feels like the next natural progression. I think the wheelie has taught me a lot that will carry over.
I reallt struggled with side to side balance, decided to spend a couple days just trying to ride with no hands. Didn’t focus on wheelies at all, just riding with no hands. It helped my side to side balance so much!!! Probably the biggest/quickest gain for my wheelie performance because I learned how to steer with my hips instead of sticking my knees to the side like everyone says.
Also, that 11:50 moment had a serious ‘regular car reviews’ TH-cam channel vibe lol
It’s crazy how quickly it translates too.
Great, now I need to go follow another TH-cam channel.😂
Awesome video idea gj
Thanks for the positive vibes!
Hey do you have a small size bike for my little brother I want him to get into mtb with me
I picked up the Canyon Neuron 6 for my daughter. It is a great starter bike. Look for it used online…I was able to get it a good deal on it. Honestly I was surprised at the deals for good used bikes online. Small ones included. Initially I started her on a Commecal Ramones 24 because it was super affordable with great geometry. She grew out of it but still loves that bike too.
@@soggywafflesmedia do you have it listed on pink bike?
I don’t pinkbike much. I just deal with local markets.
@@soggywafflesmedia oh ok no worries

Super stoked you found it valuable! Thanks for the support.
Yo I have been doing Wheelies for a long time pls to do good looking and to do tricks and just bend your arms a bit.
Just trying to be clear. You are suggesting a slight bend in the arms while riding a wheelie? Some tutorials said to keep your arms straight. Which was something that never felt natural. Most of the time I’m riding I feel like I have a slight bend.
@@soggywafflesmedia Im no wheelie expert but tutorials are a sugestion and a start you can always do your way and the one that feels the most comfortable
@EirxK great insight!
