      Depends. If you want more power to pull, yes, put it up higher; if you want to be able to pull faster, then set it lower and you can pull it faster. Gotta learn what works in your particular situation. Nice job Mr. Outdoors :).

    I too thought bottles of mortar or concrete would work but made my hooks in a bending jig for wire. Refer to the youtube video titled: "Adjustable Bending Fork & Jig for Blacksmiths" I also used wire that had cross pieces that I cut off to form a small cross for the bottom of the wire to make an anchor at the bottom of the bottle. I had a bunch of tomato cages I cut up for the wire hooks. If you do not have salvaged fence wire to use, one could use the wire bender to make hooks for the anchors. I cut off the top of the bottle to make a larger opening to insert the mixed mortar, used a funnel to pour in the mortar, and then inserted the wire with the hook already in the upper end, and let it set over night and a few days more before using. I presently use a 5 pound brick with clothesline rope to attach them to each corner of the tarp to cover pallets of firewood. And, I intend on replacing these with the bottles, with no clothesline rope then needed. Each 16 oz. bottle is about 2.5 pounds when filled with mortar and mortar mix is much cheaper than the cement mix in this video. It does take more time to mix the mortar and I mix it in a plastic tub. I mix enough mortar to fill about 4 plastic bottles, then repeat. Bags of mortar mix comes in 80 pound bags for less than 20 bucks. One should be able to get about 30-16 oz. bottles for weights from an 80 pound bag of mortar. Sooo, the only cost to me without purchasing the wire is for the mortar.

    I really like your chipper

  • @stevew3978
    @stevew3978 ปีที่แล้ว

    I actually placed an order for this 2090 machine two days ago. However, as I watched how you and others operate combo chipper/shredder machines, I am convinced that I will be better off buying a very powerful chipper-only machine (with no separate shredder hopper). Basically, I've observed several things: 1. A very powerful chipper-only machine can take the place of a chipper/shredder, but the reverse is not true. 2. Most people using such big machines almost invariably use the chipper the majority of the time and use the shredder very little because people buy such big machines to grind up tree limbs rather than green vegetation or leaves. Since the chipper can handle small branches just as well as large logs, there is little reason to spend time sorting out small branches and throwing the small branches into the shredder hopper, and then reserving the chipper chute only for large logs. With a chipper-only machine, they can just feed everything into the chipper chute and grind everything without sorting. 3. For almost the same price as a chipper/shredder, a dedicated chipper-only machine will have a much larger chipper chute to accommodate more gnarly limbs that have branches sticking out at odd angles and preventing them from feeding into the small chipper chute of combo chipper/shredders. Chipper/shredder combo machines require the operator to spend much more time to de-limb side branches before feed limbs into the relatively much smaller chipper chute. Dedicated chipper-only machines typically have a giant throat as big as the throat of the shredder hopper on chipper/shredder machines, GREATLY reducing the time spent to trim side branches from large limbs before feeding them into the large chipper chute. 4. Combo chipper/shredder machines deposit the chips at the bottom, requiring frequent shoveling to unblock the outlet. Chipper-only machines have a tall outlet that shoots the chips some distance away, almost eliminating the need to shovel the pile of chips. I just convinced myself to cancel the order for the Yardbeast 2090 and order a 14-horsepower chipper-only machine instead.

    I have a home built wiz bang that will pluck 2 at a time, with a home built scald tank that is auto temp controlled I can do 12 to 15 birds an hour myself, that is from live to dressed and ice bathed. I do however think this would be perfect for a small batch of birds, I have 3 to do right now and that would be slick.

      Although I haven't tried that many in a row, it's pretty durable and I think it would hold up to 50 chickens. I will be butchering a few more later this year and plan to make some improvements to the plucker before butchering.
