    I enjoyed your video, and I'm looking at this motherboard very closely (to utilize as a mini-PC and Nas). I have a couple of questions, if you have time, could you check them out? I'd like to know the power consumption (I'm going to use it as a NAS, so it would be nice to know how many hard drives you use). Additionally, I'd like to know if there is a CPU low power setting in the Bios, so I can keep the power to a minimum if I use it as a NAS.

      Hi, I don't monitor power settings (as far as Wattage), but do make sure to set the power loss option in OEM Features Management to "Power Off'. That's so the computer won't turn on when Power is applied at the wall socket level. Otherwise it will power up just by plugging it in. Under the same settings there is a Power Limit Setting, but it has "Balanced" and "Performance" Mode. Confusing because no book.. I use a Jonsbo N3 Case with 5 each 6TB WD Red drives and 2 250MB Solid State Drives (for Truenas boot). I have a bay left over, but no decent drive to add. Also one Nvme for cache. As far as performance, it's good, but the SETUP screen just doesn't show much (i.e. NICs) as the last version did ( th-cam.com/video/29bkHx2Kgd8/w-d-xo.html Minute 11:51 marker). Watch the whole thing also, he's really a good speaker. I am in contact with CWWK, but we will see. So far they responded to my quesitons. A book would be nice.... I can Change Operating systems anytime, but didn't get to it yet..

    I believe that the drives that are connected via the SFF-8643 connectors on the motherboard have their own chip, it's not handled through the BIOS so you won't see anything there. That one sata on the motherboard and the M.2s are what you see in the BIOS. I use a Supermicro board for my NAS and it has an LSI chip that handles the settings for the two '4-SATA port' connectors on the motherboard. The LSI chip has its own key combo during boot that gets me into its settings for hardware raid, I don't see connected drives in the BIOS, I see them in the LSI chip. I don't know what chip this board uses or if you can get into that chip during boot as it is probably just SATA (no hardware raid settings to access). As for the PSU, yea PSUs don't often fail spectacularly unless abused (or if they are junk). Sometimes they are just a bit out of spec due to age+poor manufacturing. They do slowly decline until some motherboard just can't work with them. The first thing that happens when you turn on a computer is that the PSU does a hardware check and won't turn on the power to the motherboard unless it passes. This 'power good' signal is what starts the motherboard but sometimes what the PSU thinks is OK, the motherboard just isn't impressed with... I would not trust a PSU once it is swapped out and another works fine in the same application. It's time for the recycle bin. And YES RUFUS is what I use to make my BOOT/INSTALL sticks. Good it's working, getting mine going and passing a full MEMTEST was 'as easy as falling off a log'; I was surprised you had trouble considering how 'it just plain worked' for me (two HD, two NVME on motherboard, no-name NVME pcie adapter with another NVME, 64 gigs ram and it runs ESXI 8 great.) My only issue which I figured would happen (thanks Broadcom!) is that the built in TPM is not recognized because of the limited hardware compatibility in ESXI8.

    • @JohnPonthecuff
      @JohnPonthecuff 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You're right on every level. I suspected the PSU, but it wasn't but a few months old. As soon as it powered down and didn't turn on with the switch I really knew (but was in my denial stage) Chinese no-name I think. I am talking with CWWK about seeing the drives at the controller level (which is what I should have said before). As far as Rufus it worked on DD, so it was my ignorance. Now let's see if I could get used to AMD.

    I have the same board, and found that Kingston KSM56T46BD8KM-32HA (32gig ECC sticks yea I know, no ecc here) are rock solid with it. Been running it about 2 weeks 24/7 after running memtest on it. Not as a NAS, but with 2 2tb NVME on the board, and a 512nvme in a PCIE adapter. Running ESXI 8 with 6 VMs currently. Also 2x 4tb spinners for backups. I found the Jonsbo low profile cooler wasn't enough and since I have space for a tower, I put a tower air cooler on it; much better. Make sure you have good airflow - that cables are tied out of the way of the airflow and that fans are not 'quiet' slow spinners with lots of airspace between the blades, you will need to get that air moving out of the case...

ESXI sees it in my case, but between having secure boot disabled and Broadcom being a (fill in the blank) it's not supported in ESXI 8 (works in 7 though). But it is there... thanks for the review, no one really bothers with the cwwk or topton mini router or boards from them and similar from china so its nice to see a review on it. Cwwk live chat and support can be tricky since English is not their 1st language so it can be confusing. There are some owners of the same board who were concerned with their cpu temps since it throttles back around 90-100c, that copper block is needed for clearance around the surroundings so some owners could not remove it and replace it with a better heatsink or cooling, so they had to mount it on top like you did. I am unsure if they ever improved or fixed it I do wish cwwk did better cooling on it though. You maybe able to use a more powerful fan on top or case cooling to stop the cpu from throttling or you may get lucky and not have that issue so its a good idea to monitor cpu temps with an app like core temp.

      @@JohnPonthecuff these mini nas/boards are very fussy with ram modules and ssd/nvme compatibility, might be worth trying a smaller ram module and a different branded memory module as a quick test. Also worth trying 1 on its own or in the other slot also. Have you also tried memtest to check if the ram is passing ok? I found samsung modules most compatible, but I am aware lots of cwwk owners (routers mainly) had issues with larger size ram modules like 32gig or 64gig modules. 16gig and 8gig modules tend to be more compatible. Crucial brand can sometimes be problematic also. Also check the cpu temps, maybe the bios can show the cpu temps if its hitting close to 90c it maybe causing freezing/lock ups/slow downs.

It went straight into Windows 11. There was no TPM except in the "Registry". Maybe that's where it worked from. My idea on it was that a Windows 11, that was installed correctly on a TPM machine, might run on an unsupported box it originally ran on a supported computer. TPM has been part of the motherboard architecture for years. New CPU's 8th Generation Intels and other may have TPM integrated in the CPU. Some other CPUs/Motherboards new or old don't have it, which is why they offer TPM module pins on the board. An example would be my ASRock Z270M-ITX/ac. It doesn't have TPM, so I used the module. That forward grip should go froend .just watch the torque on the rifle fron the lower than bore axis grip. Seriously replay ,and compare to the wrap around stiff foregrip technique of just wrapping your gand around .you will be faster more acurate ,and have target aquisition control that could never be achieved by that grip.

    One thing I don't quite understand is why you insulated the stand-offs. I do remember back in the early 2000s building quite a few PCs, the case would come with these pink cardboard washers and we'd use them just under the screw itself. TBH I can't remember the exact reason - my guess was they prevented stripping / damage (those screws had ridged teeth on the screw flange) and provided extra grip - but I don't think preventing conductivity between the mobo and case was the reason at all, coz the stand-off would contact the underside solder points of the mobo anyway. (And it'd pretty darn tricky to put in place one of those washers betwixt, so one each side.) You'd probably want to ground as many contact points on the mobo as possible - including the upper traces. So yea, I'd have just screwed them in normally. Don't think I've ever seen a cardboard washer in 15 years. Anyway, informative video thanks for sharing.

    • @JohnPonthecuff
      @JohnPonthecuff 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      In my old days, it was not uncommon for boards to ground out and not boot or even post. That's when? i put the tape like that to insulate it on all sides (over and under). The problem was the boards, not the case. Other than that, I was wondering, when someone would notice and ask the question. This thing actually had cardboard washers. Thanks.

I always have the lower barrel set to fire 1st then the upper. Took a few rounds to figure the pattern since they have just a little rifling and understand the over under aiming.

      Displayport to USB? You won´t find a monitor or TV with an USB 4 / thunderbolt input for cheap. I think ( I may be wrong on this ) the most common monitor or TV inputs are still VGA and HDMI. Which is ok anyhow, because you can find adaptor cables for Displayport to HDMI or VGA for 8 bucks or below 😉

      It came with the .410/45LC barrel. I added the others when I found them at a decent price (at that time). Back then "Optics Planet" and "Buds Gun Shop" offered the best price. Sold it for a decent price and got a Taurus Judge which made more sense, then got a S&W Governor, which I really like. Now will sell the Taurus to someone local, and only have one. The Bond Arms was fun, but not really "me" friendly. However if it was up to me. I would have kept all of them.

      I solved the problem. After I sent it back to KAHR, they fixed a few issues. Then as you might see on my Part 3, I solved the "Me" problem in holding it. It's so small that I couldn't figure out a proper way. Now it shoots good, no matter what I use as longs as it's not flat nosed. Not really sure about flat nosed, but just heeding the company's advice..... Took over 1000 rounds for me to get advice from someone on line and at the rage. If I wasn't that dense, I would have figured it out, but density is my middle name (or should have been).
