Brian's Hobby Space
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 16 ส.ค. 2021
I'm a wargaming, modeling and terrain building enthusiast. Like many I began painting as a teen but then stopped for many years. In 2020 I resumed painting, modeling and terrain building to wile away the lockdown time. My friend got me hooked on Age of Sigmar so most of my videos will revolve in some way around that game or GW stuff in general. I don't have lots of gaming time but I do have time for the modeling. Here I hope to share what tidbits of skills that I have acquired over the past year and hope to grow to be a better builder and painter. I'm NO pro but this hobby isn't about being `Pro`. I think the most important thing is about growing as an individual artist, advancing personal skills, and having fun with friends.
I will hopefully be putting out 2 videos a month. In the future I hope to be putting out battle reports too.
For now my content will be focused on the painting and building portion of the hobby.
Let's have fun hobbying together.

Is Buying on eBay right for you?
In this video I discuss why buying used minis giving a first hand experience of some used minis that I bought recently. I also share my tips for stripping the paint off of the used minis that I buy. If you have any tips for buying used minis and for stripping the paint off please comment in the comments section down below.

First Painting Competition Ever
มุมมอง 1105 หลายเดือนก่อน
I decided to challenge myself by joining a painting competition held at the Volks hobby shop in Utsunomiya, Japan. It is officially sponsored by Vallejo paints. So, I had to use some of those paints on this mini, which I did. About 35 percent or more. I really LOVE the new Vallejo paints. They have such a nice pigment density. Great paints. Wish me luck and stay tuned for updates on the competi...

I'd like to say thank you to all of my viewers and especially everyone that has subscribed to the channel. In this video I'd like to show off my Seraphon army. I love painting miniatures. Games Workshop minis are great. I even love painting the old derpy ones. They have so much character. I hope that you enjoy this short video of my minis. Thanks for watching.
Are Ogroid Theridons Derpy?
มุมมอง 2797 หลายเดือนก่อน
I love the Games Workshop Ogroid Theridons but, they looked derpy to me. For that reason I never bought any. After watching several battle reports I took another look at the models. I realized it was their heads that were putting me off. I bought some to see if I could fix them so that they looked cooler. I think I did a pretty good job of it. It's really simple. All you need to do is be brave ...
Age of Sigmar: Kragnos Proxy
มุมมอง 2837 หลายเดือนก่อน
Hey Everyone, In this video I build a wonderful model that I found on Cults3D called Ash'amon Lord of Dark Forest. I thought it would be a perfect proxy for Kragnos, I love that warscroll but the model... not so much. The model printed as is would have been a little small so I printed it at 120% and it came out pretty much perfectly. I did have to adjust 1 leg but that was easy. If you would li...

My 3D prints for 2023
มุมมอง 85610 หลายเดือนก่อน
Hey everyone thanks for watching. I'm out of town for a few days and thought I'd upload a short video of the stuff I've made on my 3D printer over the year. All these files can be found on thingiverse.com. I have been using that site pretty exclusively but sometimes I will also find good stuff on Cults3D. If you have any questions feel free to comment and I will try to get back to as quickly as...
Snow Bases / Redux
มุมมอง 42311 หลายเดือนก่อน
In this video I make icy snowy bases for my Beastclaw Raiders. My Ogor Mawtribes bases needed a little love. They looked great but the snow was peeling up the UV resin. In this video I show you how I am going to make my snowy warhammer bases from now on. Thanks for watching everyone.
Evocators on Dracolines are the best Varanguard Proxies.
มุมมอง 523ปีที่แล้ว
In this video I take some cheap(ish) Games Workshop Evocators on Dracoline and turn them into Slaves to Darkness Varanguard. I got these Stormcast Eternals models off of eBay. I didn't pay too much for them because they were in rather bad shape. The chaos parts I already had laying around in my parts bin. That made this a rather cheap project for me to do. If you are starting out with no models...
Drybrushing Texture Palette / Wet Palette
มุมมอง 29Kปีที่แล้ว
Recently dry brushing texture palettes seem to be gaining popularity so I decided to try making one so I could try it out. My miniature painting space is limited so I need a compact texture dry brush palette. After checking reddit I found that some people had success using their Army Painter wet palette lid. I didn't want to use the lid but my brush holding area was available so I decided to us...
Portable Miniature Paint Station

In this video I make a DIY painting station that lets me paint my wargaming miniatures anywhere in the house. I like painting Age of Sigmar, Warhammer 40K, and 3D printed miniatures. This is a super easy build and highly customizable to fit whatever needs you may have. It is made of 5mm MDF wood which is easy to cut and doesn't need power tools. I used a power saw for a few cuts but the whole t...
Age of Sigmar Heroes For Cheap
มุมมอง 287ปีที่แล้ว
In this video I show you how I used a single box of Warhammer Underworlds to get 3 heroes for my Blades of Thorne army. Games Workshop miniatures are great but some of the older hero models aren't as good as the newer Underworlds models. So using these boxes is a great way to get a good number of foot heroes for your army on the cheap.
New Skink Starter DIY bits build
มุมมอง 747ปีที่แล้ว
I can't wait for the new Seraphon models so I decided to make a Starter from bits. All these bits are from the Start Collecting Skinks & Start Collecting Seraphon boxes. These old Games Workshop boxes give you LOTS of extra bits that are perfect for messing around with. I'm really happy with the results that I got and I'm glad I spent the effort to make this little guy.
Skink Priest from Spare Bits
มุมมอง 1.8Kปีที่แล้ว
Using only extra bits from my Start Collecting Skinks box I made a very useful Skink Priest. It was a simple, fun and very rewarding project to do. If you are just getting into seraphon I would highly recommend getting the Start Collecting box and making this model as well as those that come with the box.

Priming When the Weather Drops Close to Freezing
it definitaly is worth it- I bought a whole Tyranid army (1,9k points) 3rd hand for 200€. All models are still intact, but most of the models I need to strip, but as I can't paint as fast as I can strip the paint anyways, the extra time is no issue for the amount of money you can save. I soak them in 99% Isopropyl alcohol + give them a scrub with the toothbrush. Iso is tricky to use- when you dilute it too much, it completely lose its capabilities to strip paint from the minis. Biostrip 20 is supposed to work very well, too, but where I live it's hard to come by :/ It's a paste you soak the mini in for 20 Minutes and then you can just take away the layers of paint.
@@inquisitorinluzifera3406 I got the majority of my Flesh eater Courts army used on ebay. Saved tons of money. I tried isopropyl the other day. It worked really well. What army are you working on currently? Still nids? They look really fun to paint.
I was just looking for a video on how to strip paint, thank you!
@@RowanElletson My pleasure. Simply green works well. I ordered some isopropyl alcohol online and hope to try it out this weekend. Might have to update my video if it works well. What minis are you stripping paint off of?
@@brianshobbyspace3569 I bought a gravis captain (space marine) on eBay that had too many coats of paint to paint over
Great video! Nice to see another handy upload from you. One question: What is simple green? When i strip paint off old or second hand minis, I use isopropyl alcohol, or IPA. Judging by how you used simple green, it sounds like they are pretty similar.
@@twigius5690 it is a household cleaner that is safe for cleaning almost anything. I first saw it in an infomercial back in the 90’s.
@brianshobbyspace3569 thanks, I'll keep an eye out next time I need to take the paint off some plastic 😁
@ you mentioned using isopropyl alcohol, what percentage is necessary to get the paint off? I have some in my house for cleaning tables but it’s only 70% alcohol. Is that strong enough?
@brianshobbyspace3569 honestly not sure what is required, the stuff I get is 100%. Also if you plan on using it, don't use it on resin models, they go all floppy, learnt that the hard way.
Nice idea! I have the same Army Painter wet palette. Inspired by your video, I created a similar drybrushing palette but in the lid instead of in the tray since I do use the tray for my paint brushes. It works great!
@@Gerben972 glad that it’s working for you. I use mine all the time.
funny enough, i just found this video today well after i went through the hassle of making a mold out of greenstuff to get a spare troglodon. It was a messy affair piecing him together and i abandoned the arms and legs altogether to have him rising from mud covered in plants and such.
@@skeith1543 green stuff can get messy. I feel your pain but it sounds like your project came out alright. A muddy troglodon is a great idea.
So cool ! I was actually planning on building one of my own, I think that i'll steal your plans. I'm wondering what is the plastic strip you used to stick your LEDs on ?
@@SaucisseMasquee7 it was a piece of plastic that looks like fake wood. In Japan it is sold in home centers, or anywhere that sells materials for fixing up your home. I think it is supposed to be used where the flooring meets the walls. I haven’t got a clue what it is actually called.

It's just another gimmic to take your money, waste of money. I've been painting for years and never needed this junk.

@@BronnBlackwater good luck and have fun with the project. I painted his wings and body before attaching them together.
Nice.
I tried this but found I got mould growth on my texture pallet. How did yours go?
@@wingwalker007 I haven't had any growth or mold on mine. I do frequently wash the sponge with soapy water and rinse and dry the rest of the palette as well.
This is a great idea, I upgraded to a redgrass palette a few years ago but still have my army painters pallette and this would be a great conversation for it.
how do you like the redgrass palette?
Any tips for oven time and temp?
I used my toaster oven. I think the setting was 500w and I slowly cooked them for 20 minutes.
Good luck! I'm rooting for you.
I have their castle build and it is amazing. I will be picking up this set soon.
How is the castle set? Sounds big. I was thinking of getting the marketplace set one of these days.
Very nice! I really have to follow your advice and paint this mini, I've been afraid of ruining it for as long as I've had it. It's a present from my partner, and the more I let it sit on my desk the more I feel like I'm not showing appreciation for the lovely gift.
Getting over that fear of f@€king up a mini is hard to overcome. But, you can do it. I did. Now, I love trying to paint my big special models. They aren't always perfect nor exactly what I had expected them to be but, I'm proud of them. You can do it.
@@brianshobbyspace3569 thanks for the encouragement!

Honest personal review dude, so refreshing!!! I just ordered it. It might not be the best, but thanks to you, I know that it is not some rip-off, and I will make stuff like you showed!
I want to buy a 3D printer. What do you recommend? Excellent vids, by the way! You are the OG!!!
I bought the box! Thanks for the inspiration!!!
The models are old but i still use and love mine.
Best vid on texture palettes! You a guru!
Thanks
Love it that you're no cap Brian! Loved the first vid on ice. This one just adds to it!
Thanks.
Good Luck in the contest. I haven't been in a painting contest since High School or early College, when I entered some Chaos Space Marines, way back in the day.
I remember your chaos terminators. They looked cool.
I think the model is fabulous! Good luck. I love that you are trying new things. You are a great role model for the boys.
Thanks for the praise and encouragement.
Great job!
Thanks
Awesome idea with the LED strip.
Thanks. It’s super simple to do and helps so much when painting.
I loved the salamander in the first picture, also the chameleon skinks are amazing. The bases are all amazing, I'm a little curious about the water effects on the bastiladon and how the effect was achieved. Your work really inspires me for my hobbying. Loved the video yet again, keep up the great work 😁. PS do these video's take long to do? and are/were you ever nervous to do them?
Thanks for the kind reply. The salamander and chameleons I got from Etsy. I don’t remember the seller’s name, sorry. The chameleons were super fun to paint. I tried to be brave and do something different with them. They are probably my favorite unit. I’m glad I tried something new. In regards to your questions. The time it takes to make a video depends on if I have a mental roadmap when starting filming. If I film in order it’s pretty simple to cut the video. It takes longer if I just film willy-nilly. Also, a script helps spreed things up. I edited this video in about 2 hours. Which is probably too long. Was I nervous? Yes! Every video that I make makes me feel nervous. But, the communities kindness has been super helpful to feel comfortable in my own skin.
@@brianshobbyspace3569 Great to hear about the amazing community. I'd love to try make similar videos of my own one day, although my funding for things such as cameras is limited and I'm only 15. I think that it's great that you tried something new with the chameleons, i think that that's something i need to do a bit more of honestly. My query about the water effects on the bastiladon's base still stands, it looks like resin but I can't quite tell, id love to see how it was done.
@@twigius5690 wow, sorry about that, I totally spaced out and forgot the water effect question. Before doing the water, I painted up the whole base to completion, then I put a clear coat of spray on it. After that I dabbed blue, green and torqoise randomly in the water area. I used UV resin for the water. I put some on the base then cured it. then some more and cured it. I have a cheapo 3 dollar UV light. The UV resin is clear resin that I got at the Japanese dollar store. I didn't use much resin. The resin technique is pretty much the same as the ice bases that I do. But, the ice bases have a black under coat. Water has a white under coat so that it looks brighter. You could do the toilet paper water technique that I used in my Troglodon video.
Cool Bryan
Thank you very much.
Not to sound rude, but the name in the thumbnail is a little questionable. But regardless of that, those Seraphon look great!!
Yeah, I know. I was feeling cheeky when I made that thumbnail. I was hoping that it might get some attention from the algorithm. I have another that I plan on replacing it with tomorrow. Thanks for the feedback.
it'll be really funny when people see this comment after it gets replaced, wondering what it looked like before
@@twigius5690 maybe I should just keep it this way.
Hi Brian :) don't eat from those bowls, they're contaminated with epoxy
But thanks for the video, it was helpful!
Thanks for the heads up.
Thank you. Started to make one in a cigar box. Found your video looking for tips. About to break out my wet palate and make this now.
Glad to be some help. A cigar box would be a really cool dry palette, too. Great idea.
Milion dollar idea
I just bought my son this for his 18th bday. What kind of glue did you use and did the glue hold up? Thx for sharing your vid! It’s amazing to watch!
I didn't use glue for most of the project. It stays together really well on its own. I did use glue on a few pieces of the roof so that it stays together when it's removed. I used cheap craft store wood glue on those pieces. If your son is going to use it often, putting some glue in joints could be a good idea. Good luck with the project.
Nice video dude gg
Thank you very much.
You hit the nail on the head(haha) with this one. I've always wondered what was wrong with these guy. Turns out the heads were too low. Thank you for this video, very nice.
Yup, their heads were in their chests. easyily fixed problem that GW probably should have spotted before releasing these minis. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Ooooh that was nice 😮 Ill try that for my own! Thanks for the tip!😊
I hope that it works well for you.
@brianshobbyspace3569 are you happy with the size?
@@Gokkee it would be nice if it was larger but, it works fine as it is.
Love this and love the custom work you did with green stuff. I found when it gets a bit hard due to sort of drying out I dab my finger in some vasaline and work it in. It helps make it more mouldable.
Wow! Thanks for the praise and for the amazing tip. When I got my green stuff I separated it into strips about 1 inch long. That way everytime I used it I wouldn't be exposing it all to air... despite that, it still got stiff. Next time I use it I will use a dab of vaseline. That would have made moulding a lot easier. Thanks again.
I bought a busted up mega gargant in the fall. The eBay seller was kind enough to include the extra sprue pieces. I am thinking of fixing the mega, and using the extra bits to build another mega.
Great work on the paint job and base work Brian! I particularly loved how you painted the shield. Is there any progress with the sons of behemat? I noticed the custom one made from the white beard toy in the video. I'm currently working on a dread saurian proxy made with a T-rex toy. I recommend it as a simple, fun and low budget project for any seraphon player/collector.
I've always wanted to do a dread saurian using an indominus rex toy from Jurassic World. But, that model isn't even supported anymore so I sort of gave up that ambition. But, it still lives in the back of my mind.
Thanks for the tip! Your result is great!
Thank you.
Great Idea. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks.
Is this legal to play in tournaments?
I believe so, yes. As long as you use GW parts and hand make the rest it should be alright. If you use 3D printed pieces or bits of dinosaur toys then I think that wouldn't be admissible. I would ask around at a local store if you have one to double check all this. They would probably have a better understanding of tournaments than I do.
All that, and you didn't demostrate it? I came here to see it in action!!
Too true, sorry about that. I have a bit of a painting on camera complex. I'm no pro... will try to get an action shot in a future vid. Thanks for watching and thanks for the comment.
