As a Ghanaian American the culture difference living both was difficult. It influenced my carrier in public health science community/policy management which lead to the The Road to self Mastery Holistic project I’m doing now. I grew up in SDA hardcore and to this day within my journey I’m dealing with a lot within my family due to the religion since I went into spirituality rather thn religion. My journey self mastery works thought me so much and with me living it not just working in the field changed my life outlook. Me trying to face traumas in life in family I definitely faced the imposter syndrome cause I had to change my behavior and state of being. That even my family made me feel like I was being a different person. Iv been isolated from family because of how different I am and rather thn loving and accepting me they rather ignore cause I don’t fit their SDA life anymore 😢 Having to live in isolation from family unless you bow to their rules or allow them to break your boundaries is very challenging Facing life in general can feel overwhelming and even feel unreal at time but that the beauty. We are ever changing and growing. I wanted to go into more but also don’t want to make my comment too long lol

I totally agree with you Sharon. Sometimes we, as Christians, want to hide behind prayers, meanwhile we have to speak about the reason why we are having mental health issues ,only then true healing can take place. It is not just in African churches or households either.

Thank you so much for sharing this, my husband suffers from mental health. He has his whole entire life. When he first got married I didn't know. I asked his parents and unfortunately they blamed everything on me. Lo and behold. His mother had told him, don't tell her that you have these illnesses because she won't marry you. He never did agree with it and he told me and I accepted him. We both are people of faith and believe in God. But for the person who's married to someone with mental health concerns, I always say support yourself. Take care of yourself. Pray and know that you matter. Mental health doesn't affect just one person in a family. It affects everybody. Also if anybody blames you I.E in-laws and you know you're doing your best to help by listening as Sharon mentioned. Do your part and don't let anybody put an arrow in your back. Anybody who's married to somebody with mental health issues needs to take care of themselves and almost play double duty in creating a balancing act for their family. As somebody who has suffered a physical ailment in the past, I can say mental illness is ongoing. There is no cure + it's really important to take care of every single member including the person who is suffering but everybody needs love in the family unit and understanding.

I think we all struggle in one way or another. In fact, we cannot improve until we acknowledge the areas wjere we need to do better. And, no pressure, improving a bit each day is progress. Btw, I struggle with eating my emotions.

I loved all of your points especially the 'no secrets', equipping our children so they are not allowing touching in the 'no zones', being open and direct with our children at the right age as well as making them feel comfortable to approach us with anything. Thank you for sharing your story with us, I pray for you, all of us. I only have empathy for you and love. And I wish I could hold a child version of yourself and tell you it's okay. But the reality is it's never okay for someone to have violated you. And you are doing the right thing, you're not helicopter parenting because you're not micromanaging her, you're only caring about what she needs to know. That is essential and we should all practice this.

What imaginative world do you live in thinking that only exclusively, Europeans instilled beating and physical punishment to children began in? This is a, Human condition that began before any of us were here. Cain and Able were the first recorded physical atrocities for us as people. Stop blaming others for what you do perpetually to yourself and others. Take accountability!

Glad you shared this video Sharon. We all have "temptations" to deal with or fight/ if we're really, truly honest with ourselves. My addiction/ temptation is smoking 🚬 cigarettes. I've stopped 3times in my youth & need to now go deeper and ask for God's help along with steady, rigorous exercise 😢😊👍🏾.
