    At what speed you work with the steel?

  • @bastian6173
    @bastian6173 8 วันที่ผ่านมา

    The reason why you where "stuck" at one point is that the small diameter which was left over allowed for too much deflection of the part. Basically you were pushing it towards the wall. A lathe bezel could improve this. Proxxon offers it for the pd 250. Or you could even build a custom solution. Just 2-3 ball bearings firmly attached to some kind of fixture that are pushing against the direction in which you're pushing the sled :) You could even use the milling base attachment behind the lathe bed for that... Just use some 3/8 in steel and attach some bearings... voila

      Thank you for your suggestion. ı realy need to improve my parting ability. You gave me idea for what to experiene next. I am planning for a while to make a bezel for one of my next project but couldnt find time and proper tools yet. I didnt know bezel could improve parting i want to test it soon :) ıf you have a pictures or drawing for something attached to billing base attachment and if you share i will appreciate alot.

      @@UpCycleMaker My comment was under the assumption that the parting (especially towards the end) was so difficult because of deflection. It would make sense because the workpiece was quite thin at the end. So it would prefer to move away rather than being cut into. Why the parting was so difficult in the first place, I have no idea: But it seems people offered some good solutions already: Mounting the cutter upside down sounds interesting and if it works it works! As for your question: I would love to make some small drawing but I have no idea how to share it on youtube ... but my idea was basically to take a fairly thick vertical steel plate or profile (L or U profile would help against deflection), bolt it to the milling attachment face. Thickness maybe 3/8 inch I'm thinking. The vertical piece long enough to reach to the center line of the work piece. At the top of that piece, a horizontal profile (depending on how long it is also L profile to make it more rigid) and then along that profile you place some fixture at the Y position where you want to part/cut: The fixture should either consist of two brass rods (threaded on the steel profile side) that go into the steel profile and hold against the work piece. MS58 brass won't leave any marks on stainless steel or alternatively ball bearings. I'm not sure which of the two leave lesser marks on the work piece. Would be quite an experiment. As for weight, I'm thinking probably not heavier than the ff250bl or 230ff mill when it's attached. So should be safe. Looking forward to what you come up with next!

      @@UpCycleMaker Another thought that popped into my mind: Maybe the beginning of the parting is easier with a freshly sharpened HSS cutter. Those can be made much sharper than carbide inserts. Of course they dull easier.

For stuff like spaceships, it's often better to make a brass or aluminium tube stand and inner frame to make things transportable and prevent sagging over the years. I am shopping for a small(ish) late and matching mill. Why? Just because such a pair would please me. I do preision work in the area of tool and die-making. For a couple of years now I've been studying, watching videos. Seems like far too many of those (made you know where) lathes ship with problems that the buyer is burden with identifying and repairing. I get the idea the retailers never see the lathe and have no opportunity to physically inspect it. This is unsatisfactory. Proxxons seem different. Designed in Germany? I've not seen a video yet of one that needed anything more than the usual leveling and truing adjustments by the buyer. I like the Proxxon line but they are just a bit smaller than I want. If the PD250E was scaled up by a factor of 2 I would buy one immediately. A 10 inch lathe is just too small for my work. Price is not a primary consdideration. Charge what you have to charge but don't compromise and above all don't leave it to the buyer to find and repair factory screw ups. Thanks...

      Then PD 400 is for you... but it also needs rework in several areas... Michel Uphoff has a lot of videos about it. Proxxon is good but not flawless.

      Sory for late answer. Proxxon is very quality lathe in its class. I am a hobbiest and very small pieces my pd250 done a great job. Even ı push it limits its ok. It is very precise. With extra part if you want you can increase its precision too. But it comes with very less accesories. You need to buy many accesories such as qctp, carbide tools, fixed steady etc. But its accesories are very expensive. But once you buy anything from proxxon it will probably serve you many years. I also suggestyou to buy PD400. because for example my spindle bore is 10 mm. I cant use any long piece for cutting its really unconveinient for me. I dont know your working area but pd400 has atleast 20 mm bore in its chuck. Proxxon is german made and you can feel its quality. Even its extremely expensive but i suggest you PD400.

    you have to buy real material, there is a crust on the bar, it is very difficult to use and you waste time and damage the tools.

      You are right but since i am beginner and dont do anything commercially yet, i do it for enjoy its a challenge for me and source of experience :) but it is extremely hard to handle ı am looking for supplier for real material to turn on lathe .

    I think that due to the construction of this small table lathe, such brutal turning is not appropriate at all. But that's my opinion.

      You are right but i am trying to operate it with extreme caution. But when i search online, i saw some people make more brutal thing with this lathe and it still in good condition :) but of course working with the limit with proper material is better for machine life.

    Rebar is alloyed for strength and toughness not for turning.. Its an unsuitable material for the process.

      Yes after many try i realized that its very tough. I hope i can find more suitable materials for turning to continue my projects. Since i am beginner i am still learning new materials and how to handle it.
