I am creating videos of activities in Finnish countryside. My channel is also a mountain bike vlog. I am doing MTB training and some of my videos are about that. I am also participating MTB races and documenting them. One of my specialties is Winter cycling. I like to ride especially fat bike on the snow.

E-MTB Fatbike conversion Part 3 - Hard testing
This video series presents my project, where I convert Focus Sam² 2022 Full Suspension E-Mountain Bike to a Fatbike.
I have previously owned a Maxx Huraxdax, which is a really cool full suspension E-Fatbike, but there are some problems with the Shimano motor and that's why I decided to find another solution. In the third part I am testing the bike on fat tires and in a race also on original narrow tiers. I also prepare and get the rear fork painted.
The professional welding work will be done at Vilkkis Weldings www.vilkkisweldings.com/en/
The professionla painting work will be done at Alsemet www.alsemet.fi/

I've got one as well, anything you would recommend i do to mine?
If the seat cover is broken, I would recommend to fix it. There is a wooden plate under the seat and if it gets wet it will never dry. And that may cause rusting of the body. Check this video: Old snowmobile seat repair (without sewing) th-cam.com/video/_UmPsRZwcC0/w-d-xo.html
@activelifeinfinland i got the seat cover replaced and changed the wood. While the seat was off i sanded the rust off the tunnel and painted it. Anything else i should do?
@ I haven’t had any other problems. I have just ridden on it :)
Dengfu E56. Premade fat bike.
Yeah, I know that and I even refer to those Bafang based china bikes in the first part. The problem is that Dengfu E56 and it's variants are using Bafang M620 motor, which brings over 3 kg extra weight to bike.
Bikers are truly something special! It takes a unique blend of determination, endurance, and a love for adventure to hit the road or trails on two wheels. They know the thrill of coasting down a steep hill, the challenge of a grueling climb, and the freedom that comes from exploring new paths. Whether riding solo in quiet moments or in a pack of fellow cyclists, bikers embody resilience, courage, and a deep connection with the outdoors. Plus, they’re always ready to support each other, share tips, and spread the joy of cycling. Here’s to the incredible community of bikers who keep the wheels spinning!
That's so true!
Nice bike. Good work.
Thanks!
I'd love to try a full fat bike! Good job!
It’s really worth of testing!
ive enjoyed this as i have had a similar idea to do this with my norco Sight Vlt ebike.I spoke to a bike fabricator and he said he thought it was a possibility,i will show him your videos soi he understands more about the process.Im curious though, would it not have been easier for your steel fabricator friend to not just make the whole rear back end rather than modifying the old one from the focus? Also good to know the Maxx Huradax wasnt up to the task as im travelling to Austria next year and was considering to try and buy one there as it would be far less expensiove for me as less duties and taxes etc( our Australian government are very greedy and you get triple taxed on various goods sometimes which it makes it cost prohibitive to get some things shipped here)
It is really nice to hear that you felt my videos interesting. I have already heard that the workshop has been made at least one other similar project after my project. At first It might feel that it would be more easier to make the whole rear fork from scratch, but there are plenty of things to consider and I am pretty sure that the modification of the original fork is easier. Hopefully you will get a proper solution in your case!
I really appreciate your video, I have the same bike and I love it. Additionally, I like your Paradise Lost t-shirt !
Awesome! Thank you!

What grade of aluminium do they use and did you have to heat treat the frame after welding?
The welder told me that the frame "was made of some melted cans" and it smoked quite much. I am not sure about the extension part material, but if you want, I can ask the welder. The heat treating topic has been covered exactly here: th-cam.com/video/STnu9DIknww/w-d-xo.html
Thank you for the detailed video. May I kindly ask, what was the height of your child when she tried the bike first time in winter? My son is 121cm now and I’m thinking if we can skip 20inch size wheels and get straight the 24th. Thank you
Thank you! I am not quite sure anymore. I think she was a bit over 130 cm then. The saddle height is adjusted for her in the thumbnail picture, which has been taken from the end of the video.
@@activelifeinfinland Thank you very much for your fast reply
Nice snowmobile, i have one very similar 89 tundra lt
Nice 👍
Which colour is tgis
The colour name is XCObalt.
Honestly those frames have undergone some special heat treatment before they were painted. If you weld after this, it removes the strength, that the heat treatment provided. Technically you should do exactly that somewhere, to gain that strength back.. 😕 otherwise those welds won't last..
Thank you for the comment! This topic has been covered in the video, exactly here: th-cam.com/video/STnu9DIknww/w-d-xo.html
Please check also the part 2 where we are doing the actual modification: th-cam.com/video/STnu9DIknww/w-d-xo.html
I wouldn't trust the cut cranks. I'd rather replace the entire spider on the shaft, then the chain line would also fit. Otherwise, I think your project is great. Would you like to build me a rear triangle too :)
Thank you for you comment! In fact in the next part, where I am doing the testing, I'll replace the cranks. You should ask Vilkkis Weldings would he do the job for you, but I guess it would be too expensive if you are not a local. You had to send the whole bike here. But if you find a local professional, I am sure that this video would help him/her to get the job done.
Miranda has same kind of "cutted" ISIS fat cranks on their lineup which were made for Bosch 2gen big offset small fat sprockets. There is not quite so much material left but how ever they have worked quite well. These cranks are named as O20, for example Miranda Delta 55Q:21 O20, where O20 means offset 20mm. Basic 55Q:21 cranks has a 16mm of bore lenght so with O20 version they have machined 4mm of material off from original cranks.
Yeah. In the upcoming part 3 i’ll switch to Miranda Delta 55Q29,6 160 mm cranks. I just rode today second longer test ride with those cranks.
Wow, great craftsman skills man ! Subscribed 😁.
Thanks for the sub!
Thank you for putting the video together. It really helped me assemble the bike when we got it. Especially the part about the chain guard saved me some headache. :)
Glad to hear that video helped you!
Frey EX FAT isn’t overpowered. 1000W is a legal L1e-A- vehicle. You can even configure it to 250W if you want.
Yes, but it's overweighted due the heavy 1000 W Bafang system. And there is no information if the rear hub is 197x12 mm. Hi. That is absolutely beautiful.

Hi can i join when there is a race in finland , now im in kuhmo 😀
Of course! Unfortunately there is no one source to get a complete race calendar, but here are some races (unfortunately just in Finnish): pyoraily.fi/kalenteri/ I would say that Tahko MTB (www.tahkomtb.fi/) is the most popular event in Finland. Here is a video of the 60 km ride from last year: th-cam.com/video/rEMQZV3twUA/w-d-xo.html. It was one of the event history's muddiest day. Next race I am going to participate is in about week and it's called Aittovuori XC. Depends what is near :) It is in Uurainen. The address is Rinnetie 20, 41230 Uurainen. Seems to be 362 km from Kuhmo... But I checked the pyoraily.fi calendar and next weekend there is a gravel event in Koli, which is about 160 km from Kuhmo: koligravel.fi/

Weight and size ?
The size is S. The original setup without pedals was 11,55 kg (see the chapter starting at 6:03). After seat post replacement and pedal installation the weight was 12,44 kg and after doing the tubeless setup with Vittoria Inserts and replacing the carbon handlebar, the final weight is 12,3 kg.
I have this model for 2 years now. Bearings in rear wheel were gone after about 5 months of summer riding. Headset bearings were not lubed from factory at all. Unfortunatelly if the bike get wet by rain or by washing, you need to dry a space between frame and headset. If you not do it the moisture stuck there And headset bearings could ne damaged realy quickly. Internal cable routing through headtube means that home change/lube of this bearing is more difficult (at least for me). Despite all of cons i have had with this bike i love it but if I have to go with it back to bike shop again I only like it😅
Hello. Thank you for sharing your experiences. That was good information and I need to pay attention especially on hub bearings. I have ridden on that bike just about 300 km, because in winter time I have ridden on a fatbike. Now I am riding on my gravel, until the rest of the snow melts from the trails in the woods. IMO if the bearings were good quality, they should be sealed and they should be able to handle significant amount of moisture. The headset of my fatbike was in perfect condition, even after this video: th-cam.com/video/nUdDeobvG8M/w-d-xo.html So I have to say, there seems to be differences in bearing quality. Luckily the bearings are quite cheap to buy and at least I am able to replace them by myself.

I ordered this bike for both my kids, waiting for delivery. Is your daughter bothered by the lack of front suspension - or is it actually better for kids not to have it --as some say?
Great! She hasn't asked for front suspension (she hasn't never tried a bike with front suspension). I preferred the weight over the front suspension. And we ride mostly quite easy trails and no jumps, so the suspension would be quite useless. Here is one trip that we made together: th-cam.com/video/GgfddGdAMcE/w-d-xo.html

Hi mate, how many tooth on the chainring? Whats the max tooth you can get on a power meter setup for MTB?
In this video there was 34 tooth chainring. The maximum size depends on the frame. For example I thing this trek fuel ex 9.8 frame the 34 is absolutely the maximum, because bigger would not fit.
