Hello and thanks for taking the time to publish this video. I'm just starting to get interest into going with a stage 2 torque cam and I have no idea what the cam # mean. Is the 475 a torque ir power cam and what made you decided on a 475 over another number cam. My '23 Ultra needs some passing power and I'm not too aggressive ilkn my bike unless I really need to get off the line in a hurry.
@@michiganborn8303 I would strongly recommend the ss475 or the star 30/30
@@michiganborn8303 I see your in Michigan I am aswell if you need any help.
@whiteshedcustoms Unfortunately I moved out of Michigan in 2008 and now in the Sacramento area, my heart is always where I come from except for the brutal winters 😁, you can keep the cold. So that's S&S 475? I heard something that the power on the 475 doesn't really kick in until the higher RPMs. Is that true?
@@michiganborn8303 yes sir
I needed to know how to do this from start to finish.oh well I'll find another
What year is that? Is it 5 speed or 6 speed?
2000 5 speed. Six speeds are the same process just don’t have to remove the starter gear.
@@whiteshedcustoms is this the same for a 2003 Dyna
@@herrent yes sir.
@@whiteshedcustoms thats a big job
Thanks so much, I’m just about to do a 475 when I get home. 2020 electraglide standard 107
You will love it! Be sure to subscribe to the channel to see a lot more videos coming on a 2021 street glide
When you installed the cam plate, you mentioned turning it over four times before continuing the tightening sequence - turn it over how ?
You’re going to have the bike jacked up and put it in 6th gear. and have the spark plugs out and roll it over by the tire
Why shouldnt you use an impact on the stator
It’s bad for that stator rotor. The same reason as why you shouldn’t drop magnets.
@@whiteshedcustoms how do you get it off without one then? Can you do it by hand if you wedge something between the sprockets? Thanks so much for the fast reply
@@proudpennsylvaniaman7996 yes sir. They sell a wedged to be placed in the chain then use a braker bar to remove the bolt.
@@whiteshedcustoms I'll look into the tool. I don't really want to buy one cause I'll most likely never use it again. I have an impact an every video I seen no one else mentioned it. I might just risk it.
I made a tool out of 3/8 flat steel stock. Check out online. They’re about 6 inches long with a slot at one end to fit the sprockets.
Nice video
Thank you sir.
I just knock the swing-arm bolt in a little, leave my rear wheel on, loosen the top shock bolt and put the belt on. It will fit between swing-arm and frame. no need to remove wheel. You will have to loosen the wheel axle so you can move the wheel forward to get belt on.
I prefer to do it my way so I get a chance to inspect everything while iam at that point.
White shed speaks truth here… inspection of all bearings, sprockets, etc. I had about $700 in parts by the time I looked at all the wear on stuff.
Part 2 coming?? 2012Glide with 100k. Replacing belt, both pulleys, wheel bearings, fork bearings… all seals.
I can do a part 2 if you’d like
@@whiteshedcustomsThanks but I got it. Wasn’t too bad. Replaced A LOT of parts on the way. And added some new shocks. Bike rides tight. Kinda like replacing shocks on a car 50,000 miles past due… don’t know what you’re missing until it’s replaced. 😒
*Promo SM* 🤣
any thoughts on quality after running them for a bit?
When im rotating tire the lifter on the back side stays up until i push it down with my finger is that normal or do i need to adjust it
Lmao I actually gasped out loud when I saw that rear fender set up.
Bedtime stories
We watch most of our TH-cam at bed time also. 😂
Quick question...I literally just finished a 22XD cam this evening. Why not just open the cam cover and use the timing marks for TDC on each cylinder before cutting the pushrods? I already had the rocker boxes after doing my head gaskets if that makes any difference.
Nice job! I thought lifter cuffs torque is 140 inch lbs? You said 60 inch lbs. most other videos I’ve watched are 140. Just curious because I’m fixing to do my breakout and don’t want to fuck it up !! lol.
For the cuffs I do 60-100 in-lb. S&S instructions call for 100 in-lb. The tappet covers are 140 in-in.
You are doing great!! Keep up the good work!
Thank you!
'PromoSM' 😌
I run a 86 FXSTC with a RedStar conversion kit 6 speed transmission and a S&S v111 and have over the years had 3 belts broken... so changing to this type of final drive seems more logical even if is more maintenance and for most of us our first bikes before this were always chain and poof ... one masterlink and back on the road ... not stuck in the sticks hoping to get a tow or even signal on your cell is my plan.
Excellent presentation
Pirate vision "There be the first one" ARRGHHH
Also why .005 on tappets? Its suppose to be .002 feeler gauge when tightening them aint it???
When you set the 1st pushrod do you go ahead and do the other one beside it? I guess rhe fromt get done after the rear leaks down?
I do them both.
@whiteshedcustoms I got it done. And got bike back yesterday 121 hp and 133 tq 3030 cam 55intake and 5.5 injectors
I have no idea on how to replace a light bulb(got leds😜) so my question is this: how long did it take you to do the can swap/install with give n take?? And what is the absolute necessary parts you need to do it, provided you have full exhaust decatted system and a high air flow cleaner? Thanks in advance and I’m asking these questions cause I simply refuse to pay a Stealership period!!
Well The only parts you actually need would be your cam, pushrods and a gasket kit for your hard parts. then just a base line tune will get you by. time wise you'll be looking at 3-6 hours based on your skill set.
@@whiteshedcustoms I’ve done it she sounds like an old school Harley now but still fighting with the pushrod tubes that are leaking up top… Another stupid design if you ask me from Harley that you’ve gotta fight with screw drivers between the fins to put that clip on… Got the tool hopefully tomorrow she’ll be good to go… Thanks again
Great. I wonder how many miles does a belt go? That is an intense job, especially removing the swing-arm. I can understand why people switch to a chain drive.
I have 96k on mine stock belt atm. I do have a leak in inner primary or somewhere in there (haven't tore it down yet) so might change belt and swingarm bushing while I have it down that far.
@@cjkirk30sJust taking a wild guess… check the shift shaft seal on inner primary. Little pita seal but it’ll make it look like a bad leak from the primary gaskets.
Great Video However i don't see the crank and cam at TDC which would be optimal
Just getting ready to attack this install on my 23’ RG. Curious as to why you removed the cam plate and oil pump separately if you were reusing both? My bike has 34:06 about 600 miles on it, any reason not to remove and reinstall in one piece? Thank you for the torque specs btw
I do it so I know for certain that is set in 100%
Just finished a 22XD cam. I took my cam plate and oil pump out together but I COULD NOT get them back in together. I could not get the oil pump to line up properly while still attached the the cam plate. I had to take them apart and install them separately. After getting the oil pump in, i put the cam plate back over it and snugged down the bolts (not torqued, just barely past finger tight). Then rotate the motor over two full turns just to make sure everything is good and not binding. Torque them down and roll on.
sorry... 600 dollars
Mine was leaking just a smidge and gaskets solved it. 20$ at stealership
i just replaced the gaskets. the pump is too much expensive in Brazil. 60 dollars
Givin me something to watch on lunch.
Nice just found your channel new subscriber here. Am building a 22 road king special myself so interested to see how your build goes. Videos are good keep at it👌
Awesome! Thank you!
Morning. Say nice bike btw. I am curious how many hours you put into the stage 2? I ask because I own the 2019 HD FXDRS 114 M8. I will be doing a stage 2 and don’t want to get grossly overcharged for labor. My intentions are to replace cam, adjustable push rods, tapper cuffs and oil pump. I do have a tuner. Assuming 4-6 hours labor? What amount in labor would be excessive? Any knowledge or advice is appreciated. Thanks guys. Ride safe. 👊🏻
Couple hours. Not bad at all.
@@whiteshedcustoms thank you. I have a feeling they may charge me more than 2 hours. Thanks.
@@craig2Afreedom I believe Harley charges close to eight hours for a install that at most takes half of that
@@craig2Afreedom I’m about to to pretty much the same as you. I called to different places in my area and they both said they would charge like $600 since I had all the parts already. So around 6 hours is what they said it would take. I know that’s a little inflated but what can you do?
@@joelricobene4147 agreed
Great video! Ill be tackiling this soon on my street glide. Keeping the factory pump and plate as well. I do have a question. Did you reuse the shim that is between the plate and cam sprocket?
Yes your fine to reuse the shim.
Clean install.
Thank you
that bike is still slow lol, but it sounds good.
i wouldn't call it slow. but for sure sounds awesome
Why do you use smaller washers when putting sprockets back on the first time? I am getting ready to do this exact thing and was just curious.
The factory design is usually the best design! Belts run quite, less wear, and longer life than chains. Lots to think about too.. gear ratio, shimming, wheel alignment, and servicing. I personally think this is a waste of time and money! Especially if you are a weekend warrior…
if you watch the video i covered all those as well. the biggest deciding factor is what you intend to use the bike for. this bike will be used for stunt riding witch a belt can not withstand. also high horse power bikes switch due to the belts weakness. 99% of performance bikes run chain over belt.
I've been running chain drive for years , I run Rk pro chains on my decker , and yes I am a long distance rider , coast to coast . Belts are garbage , left me stranded to many times .
Right on!
Is this something a newbie can follow along with on a 2021 m8 softail. Or is there other steps that may cause issues and require a professional install? I'd really like to get into it. But i don't come from a family nor friend group that does this. So forums and youtube has been my dad lol.
Following this video and buying the fuel motto bearing tool ( there is a video on it from them as well) you should be able to it just fine my only suggestion would be to buy or obtain a copy of the service manual as well just to make sure you’re doing it correctly
Exactly what he said! very easy and straight forward and the manual gives you step by step how to.
Hi thanks for the excelent video. Where didyou get the pump I cant find one,
Part number in the description. Your local Harley dealer will have one or can order one
What is the procedure for filling to avoid air lock in system? Did you change Thermostat as well? Thanks, good video
Why would you want a chain.
I have a project.... mostly finished and it's just small details to tend to at this point, but I was considering changing to a chain for space sake... it's a 91 fat boy, when harley was running the belts wide enough to land a 747 on... I wanted to run a 150 rear tire but could only gain that space with a much thinner drive... In the end I stuck with stock tire, but I did consider a chain conversion for space saving.
if you watch the video i covered all those as well. the biggest deciding factor is what you intend to use the bike for. this bike will be used for stunt riding witch a belt can not withstand. also high horse power bikes switch due to the belts weakness. 99% of performance bikes run chain over belt.
Wait till you snap a build a couple of times in the middle of nowhere you cannot trust belts ever
I personally wouldnt recommend messing with the S&S tappet cuffs for bolt in cams. Swapping them comes with serious risk that you could snap a cuff bolt and get landed with a very expensive extraction. I found out the hard way last year when I did an oilpump update and installled an SE Torque cam. The tappet cuffs like those are used in high end LS Engines and do just fine, and I've yet to actually see any real confirmed reports of a stock tappet cuff failing in anything with a stage 2 or even stage 3 cam. You can get some Magnetic Lifter Holders and skip the entire tappet blocks step and save a bunch of time, and avoid a bunch of risk by leaving the tappet cuffs alone. Once you pull the cam out the lifters will fall out of the bottom of the lifter bores. So you can swap in new tappets, keep them im place with the lifter holder, then put the cam in. Waaaay easier and safer than dealing with the cuff swap. They dont really need to be swapped to billet ones until like, you do high lift cams that require serious springs and headwork. If I had known they were a 0% failure rate part I wouldn't have bothered with the S&S tappet cuffs at all. I got me a 22XE cam sitting in the box to replace my SE Torque Cam, along with an SE 55mm manifold FM 5.5g injectors, arlen ness Ventilator upgrade filter, and Woods platinum lifters. Next riding season is gonna be awesome.
To each there own. i personally wont open up the pushrod tubes and not swap out the cuffs. its a cheap peace of mind.
@@whiteshedcustomsif you do it right then tappet cuffs are almost a must when changing out parts.
@@Braapstar219 exactly!
