Behringer 2600, Up Close : The Three Duophonic Modes
มุมมอง 4.9K2 ปีที่แล้ว
Anyone familiar with the Behringer 2600's DUO Voice Mode knows it's almost always more trouble than it's worth. Far fewer know that there is a second way to put the 2600 in Duophonic Mode, one that works much better. And almost no one knows there is a third way which is even better, still. By the time you've finished watching this video you will have learned about all three duophonic modes - wh...
Behringer 2600 - Tutorial 2, Part 2
มุมมอง 1.6K3 ปีที่แล้ว
Part 2 of the "Getting Started" Tutorial takes a detailed look at the signal flow in the Behringer 2600 - from a VCO audio source through the VCF, VCA, Mixer and Reverb. While the tutorial is aimed at people getting started with [semi-]modular synthesizers, it also includes details about the 2600 that experienced users might not have discovered yet, especially in regards to the VCA's "Ring Mod"...
Behringer 2600 - Tutorial 2, Part 1
มุมมอง 1.8K3 ปีที่แล้ว
In this Tutorial (No. 2, "Getting Started" Part 1) we look at getting the Behringer 2600 set up for a new patch and we take a "general" look at audio signal flow as it applies to the 2600. If you are a more advanced user of modular synths (including the 2600), this first part is likely to be less useful to you. Part 2 is a far more detailed look at the Behringer 2600. That having been said, Par...

    Glad I just found your channel, had Behringer for a year and not got to grips with it and it stayed under a dust blanket unloved. I was looking how to get the sound going again, as I forget which sliders to move to get sound via midi, and at the time looking at Ralphs set up default for sound, I then spotted your channel at the side. Many thanks for this! In the video, you stated about the envelopes still influencing the VCA with the initial gain at max... "Why this is so, is the subject for a future tutorial. In part though, the shapes of the AR and ADSR do more than just shape the volume. They also change the timbre of the sound." Unfortunately, that future tutorial never was done. Could you say in brief what you intended to explain?

    • @24x7arts
      @24x7arts 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You're welcome. To be honest, I don't remember exactly what I had in mind there. Briefly, though, the reason for the pulse still being distinguishable, instead of being a matter of volume, is a matter of the timbre of the sound also being changed by the quick pulse of the envelope(s) and our rather amazing ability to distinguish between different sounds. Someone with a better understanding of psychoacoustics could explain this more fully, I'm sure. My general point (again, as I recall) was that while the envelopes basically raise and lower the gain on the signal, they also contribute some to shaping the waveform that is output by the VCA.

      You're welcome. I'm glad they've been useful! I don't have any plans to at the moment. Perhaps you could pause the videos on the "summary" pages and get a screenshot? (One of the issues I have with making a printable PDF of the slides is that they were designed to look good on video and therefore are mostly black. That's not a good choice for printing, though, as it would burn through your black ink cartridge in short order. That leads to a bigger issue, namely that I don't really have the time/energy to re-do all of the slides so that they're using white backgrounds ...)

    How about covering the also strange gate/trigger behaviors, how to use both envelopes, and other ways to approach polyphony with MIDI and/or CV combinations and external hardware, preferably DAWless?

    • @24x7arts
      @24x7arts ปีที่แล้ว

      The amount of time and effort that goes into making these compared to the "return on investment" they've delivered has pretty much killed my appetite for more. I started a part 3 on the tutorials quite a while ago, focusing on the 3 oscillators. You'd think that would be fairly simple to put together, but when I started looking at the many ways one oscillator can modify the sound of another through FM (including the surprising effect you get plugging the output of one oscillator into the *output* of another), it was clearly going to need a lot of time to explain things... I may at some point get back to working on that, but it's low on the list of things I'm currently interested in spending time on.

      @@24x7arts great thanks, I can send midi out with my sequencer so this should work, only thing i was wondering was do you know the specific limitations with midi and cv/gate when using the synth?

    • @24x7arts
      @24x7arts ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not sure what you're asking. A big difference between MIDI and CV (as far as duophonic modes are concerned) is that the CV cable can only carry one signal (voltage) while the MIDI signal is polyphonic. When you hold down multiple notes on a MIDI connected keyboard, the 2600 can get the pitch of all the notes from the MIDI message. With CV, you'd need a cable for each note and some place on the 2600 to plug each of those cables into (not to mention a cable for each note on/off message).

    • @cowliver1032
      @cowliver1032 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@24x7artsThanks, but i meant more in terms of what are the advantages of one (midi or cv) to the other in terms of the information sent. for example velocity data, pitch bends. Things like that. from what i have read it seems there is a slight difference in what each one sends. thanks for the info though, still interesting to know. I actually do plan on sending 3 different cv patch cables to each VCO's individual pitch input and seeing what kind of chords I can come up with.

    • @24x7arts
      @24x7arts ปีที่แล้ว

      The main difference between the two is that MIDI is digital and control voltage (CV) is analog. MIDI values for things like pitch, velocity and aftertouch are represented by integers (0, 1, 2, ... 127). CV signals are voltages, typically between -10 and +10 volts (but often 0 to +5, -5 to +5, or 0 to +1, depending on what the voltage is controlling). Where a MIDI value can for example, be 1 or 2, it can't be 1.25 or 1.814. CVs between 1 and 2, on the other hand, can be 1.257352 or 1.90123 etc., again for example. That means CVs can be more accurate. However, it's the person who is listening to the resultant sound(s) that really matters, and you'd be hard pressed to tell the difference between, say, MIDI velocity values of 63 and 64, or CV values of 5v and 4.89v.
