    I'm so intimidated this year I wanted my curriculum for my kiddos to be super hands on. I'm choosing to buy curriculum for math and La for my 1st and 3rd grader but I hope it's not a waste of money as I know I'll be using it as more of a rubric cuz I wanna add a bunch of games instead of paper work 😂

    Thank you so much. I'm trying to decide wether to build my own curriculum or buy one for my 1st and 3rd grader. This will be my 1st year homeschooling in Texas and my husband and I may change our minds but we will probably put them back in public school in 7th grade.

      While there isn’t one course I would recommend, there are lists of topics available that would help guide discussions of good citizenship. These will fluctuate with age, but think along the lines of community involvement, voting, government, etc. Good citizenship is a broad term that can also include aspects of history and how people interact together in society.

    Hello, I am considering homeschooling in TX. I’ve looked into the requirements but i did notice that the state doesn’t actually require an application and there is no annual reporting or review like other states. Is there anyone I would have to report to yearly or something like that? Do I keep their work for review I’m just not sure how it works in terms if anyone is checking to see you’re doing or teaching what is expected. Also for the senior year HS diploma Ive read that we create that ourselves but again does the state need to be notified ? Thank you !

    • @practicalprissy2714
      @practicalprissy2714 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You’re correct- Texas has minimal requirements for homeschooling, allowing for an educational experience that fits each family’s needs. There is no application or reporting process, however many families choose to keep a portfolio of their child’s work/progress. You are expected to operate your homeschool similar to a private learning entity, which also means you will provide the diploma, not the state.

    thank you for not giving up on your videos and being yourself and true to your reality. The perfect videos freaked me out and I almost did not homeschool because they were too intimidating and I knew I could not keep that up. Also at first I loved the homeschool rooms but it just depressed me and made me frustrated that I did not have that room or the budget and that is not how I wanted myself or home to feel. So the more real moms really give me inspiration that life is not perfect or messy but we are grateful for whatever we CAN do and not feel so bad when we have rough days. :)

    In between deciding to homeschool my youngest son or putting him in a smaller district. He has struggled with school due to bullying and was diagnosed with clinical depression and severe anxiety. I don't want to pull him away completely from associating with other children his age but if he is not accepted this would be the next step and I don't even know where to begin or how to go about getting a curriculum. His grades are poor in school right now but we are in a big district and I feel he needs one on one teaching. And I feel like this would provide that. In class they are rushed through and not given the special time they might need. Help.

    • @practicalprissy2714
      @practicalprissy2714 ปีที่แล้ว

      Firstly, it’s great that you are considering other avenues for your son to feel confidence and successful. Homeschooling can help in each of the areas you described, which can change the way he experiences learning and friendships. Learning at home doesn’t have to mean distance from peers, and even allows for you to find groups that better fit your son’s interests and needs.

    How often do home school children have to go in and be tested and evaluated? Our church is repurposing a building to do just that. I don't know what the school will be named or how much it will cost the parents to have their children tested and evaluated. Does anyone know the answers?

    Hello! First time visiting, I have an upcoming 2nd grader and 6th grader (both boys) and fear I may not be able to help my oldest. He’s a very smart and studious child. In addition my last completed year of school was 10th grade, and I have a GED. Any advice from you or your community on how difficult is is to keep them challenged enough and learning through middle/high school at home?

    • @practicalprissy2714
      @practicalprissy2714 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s amazing that you’re preparing ways to best support your kids in their learning, despite feeling apprehensive. They are already being set up for success by having such care and attention put into their education. I know there are many options to help bridge any gaps, including supplemental teaching materials to support you, tutoring, or even curriculum models that will require less parent input (if that’s what you’re looking for). We’re all learning, so don’t be afraid to explore alongside your kids as they grow!

      In Texas, he can get his GED as early as 16yrs. They use the transcript from his previous school. They get tested to check what level he is in. And if his score is great he can be accepted in to a trade school where he can get Certification in short programs offer by The Texas work Force. And from there he can sign up into college.

      Each homeschool is considered an individual private educational entity, so you would be giving the diploma upon graduation. Texas does not distribute diplomas nor is there a place to upload or report grades.

    What does bonafide mean when you talk about the curriculum?

    • @practicalprissy2714
      @practicalprissy2714 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bonafide refers to a genuine, sincere effort to provide education that meets the requirements. There should be no intention of being deceitful with what takes place while learning at home

    I’m thinking of homeschooling my 4th grader the only issue I have is I don’t know where I can get the curriculum and how do I prove I have one to the school or state once I’m withdrawing them

    • @practicalprissy2714
      @practicalprissy2714 ปีที่แล้ว

      In Texas, you do not have to show/prove your curriculum. It is your choice of method and approach once you withdrawal to homeschool, so the options are open!

    Hi, new here! I just recently withdrew my kids from public school to start homeschooling. I found a curriculum and some resources I want to start using. So my next step is to start teaching and that's it? No reporting, no testing to the state or anything like that?

      It feels a little odd at first to be “on your own” with schooling, but yes, you’re set to start teaching!

    Quick question! When you say you create your own curriculum/work does that mean that i can write questions on a piece of paper and have my student answer them on there? (As long as its the required subjects of course)

    • @practicalprissy2714
      @practicalprissy2714 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Essentially, yes, you can create or put together the best fit learning experience for your kids! Every learner is different, so this is a huge perk. I have a playlist dedicated to the planning and preparing that I do, if you’re interested in seeing what this looks like for our preferences/needs!

    How do you overcome the feeling that your kids are missing out by being at home and not at school with other kids? We did Catholic school for 7 years but left because of bullies. Now my kids are doing cyber school but they're at home all the time. Honestly cyber school is so much more work than homeschooling. You might not be inside for school long. But I just can't help feeling like my kids are missing out on stuff.

    • @practicalprissy2714
      @practicalprissy2714 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great questions! The biggest lesson I’ve learned around this topic is to be open to every opportunity that offers something to your kids. We are able to offer and explore alongside our children, which will always have a deeper impact than curriculum and testing.

    • @pinkorganichorse
      @pinkorganichorse ปีที่แล้ว

      I can't think of a single thing a child would miss by being homeschooled. Public school offers a crappy education compared to what they can do at home. I also do not want mine associating with most of the peers at school. He gets far better socialization via homeschool. We are TOO busy.

    Hi!! I'm a homeschooler in MS but I want to relocate, so I'm here for research. Great info by the way!! My questions are do you have to send a filled out enrollment certificate to the enrollment officer in your county? and if my children decide to attend public school, will they be tested before being placed in their correct grade?

    • @practicalprissy2714
      @practicalprissy2714 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! I’m glad you’re here! Texas does not require a notice, although a district may request one of the child has been previously enrolled in public school. Similarly, testing for grade level placement will more than likely occur at the discretion of the district, school, or even individual educator depending on the policies and preferences.
