All of my footage of the partially abandoned Bronx Psychiatric Center. Sadly, I was always so focused on getting pictures rather than video clips of this once amazing spot. Most of my footage is after the place began to become heavily vandalized. Thankfully a lot of my footage was taken before the state cut power to the buildings. I hope you enjoy the video.

Part of the problem was understaffing. I m not defending what went on there but the staff may have started out with good intentions but The pressure of working short staffed all the time is horrible. The workers at agencies now are severely underpaid.

The people that were in ❤there are spread across the island in agencies like ACLD AHRC Maryhaven Little Flower (closed now) DDi, YAI and FREE. FREE alone has over 100 community houses and I don’t know how many apartments. I met many of them as a Social Worker in various agencies and they are thriving! They get occupational and physical therapy job coaches that go to jobs with them ands I have personally had discussions with them about their experiences in CI and KP and they get therapy for their traumas.

The place employed thousands good jobs with pensions. Now they are all closed and the patients are all living in tents in cities, a shame. Great soundtrack! Great with the storm! Watching her in Vegas, I used to live up the road from the place….talk about a different planet. Oniontown is right up the road( seven wells rd), film that place if you dare! If you go wear a flack jacket. There is also a giant methane plant right there also. And up behind the hospital building you filmed is a giant reservoir and earthen dam which is gonna fail and flood the whole valley, that’s gonna be wild. The reservoir was for the whole nuthouse complex. There is a song on TH-cam about this nuthouse, search Dark Barn, Wingdale, Pawling NY. Local band I was in we did a song about the place back in the day. Moving away from this was the best thing I ever did.

Knew shrinks who managed the hospital they were very nice down to earth people outside of the hospital. Sadly, we need to bring back the intuitional system. it's immoral to leave so many people on the streets unable to take care of themselves a risk to them and others. Institutions are scary but they serve a great purpose and need to be brought back. Mandatory incarceration for people unable to take care of themselves needs to be brought back as well. And soon!

The campus is so huge it took us 4 visits to explore most of the important buildings 10 years ago. But, when did it actually shut down? The thought of renovating just the main building for example it would run into millions just for the asbestos removal before a hammer drops.

Summer 2016 I was skating this campus with my lil brother. I had no idea what this place was until now. I always had a feeling of being watched but just kept skating being aware of my surroundings. I remember trying to get my bro to go in one of the buildings that was unlocked but he was too scared. I don't blame him. Good times. I miss you bro.

At 24:25 of this video. About that golden gloves boxer who was a patient at kings park psychiatric center, he must have gotten hit in the head many times and must have gotten brain damage from boxing. I also have to add that being that golden gloves boxer pesant died, he must of died from being under 2% body fat. Being under 2% body fat is very dangerous and he must have no energy/fat to burn left and died.

I literally grew up across the street ( off Lowell Ave.) and the "Hospital Grounds" was the ultimate playground. My Nana ( Muriel R.) was a pharmacist there until it's last days in the 80's. I learned valuable lessons from Nana about empathy and how to treat my fellow man with respect. She was instrumental in starting a museum dedicated to C.I. and let me just say I got to see some wild old photos that'd make some folks' skin crawl lol. I have a lot of fond memories of the patients and my time roaming the grounds with my friends. thanks for the (mostly) good memories. Much love to my hometown C.I.

I used to live on Hazel St and we called the whole place "The Black Hole" back in the late 70s early 80s before they built the college. We would follow the tunnels under each building that would lead to each of the other buildings. I'm talking the old mansions.
