Montreal Assembly Too Positive Stereo Overdrive - My 3 Favorite Ways To Overdrive
Hello friends!! It’s been a bit since I’ve done this style of video and I can tell you, it’s good to be back!!
In this video I explore the Montreal Assembly Too Positive Stereo Overdrive. Too Positive has two independent drive circuits each with their own set of controls. It can be run in mono or stereo. You are able to access three modes by holding the footswitches while powering up. Dial in everything from a clean boost to a wall of distortion. It’s quite a versatile drive!
I am going to quickly explore the controls to show what sounds Too Positive can produce. Then I will show my 3 favorite ways to use this overdrive. I really love what this pedal can do in a stereo chain. Hope you enjoy!

That section with the pocket operator is extremely fun. That last section with the unbalanced stereo is just so darn full of texture and movement. Nice. 🤩

Great video! Very interesting soundscapes you got going there. I love how everything in this video sounds dark and twisted in a way. I used to have the deluxe version, bit unfortunately I found the latency still too apparent for realtime guitar playing. The thing that bothered me most though, was that when I increased the depth of the vibrato, I noticed that the centerpoint of the vibrato started to shift up in pitch. That meant that all but full wet sounded awfully detuned, and full wet did have the latency issue. Too bad, because I love the character of these devices. Curious; at 5:18 you switch the device to random modulation, but a whole lot more changes in the sound. I really love that bit, and keep coming back to it. I do perceive bitcrushing, tape-stops, reversing… what is it you did right there?? All the best! Keep making these crazy and lovely videos please 👍🏼
Thank you so much!!! Really appreciate everything! I have to agree on the latency and the detuned sound. When I do use it I tend to stick to full wet vibrato, which I think it does amazing! And yeah, that 5:18 mark needed a lot more explanation as to what’s going on. Flipped the loop that was playing backwards and I think pitched a bit. Only the second vid I did, so was still getting my feet under me. Thanks for checking out and liking my weird channel, haha!

Cool stuff. They keep making some seriously dope pedals that to my knowledge aren’t being replicated with plugins or hardware. Imagine Radiohead getting a hold of one of these during the Kid A / Amnesiac sessions.
Would be supremely mind blowing to see what Radiohead could do with this gear! I can only hope they use some Chase Bliss in their sound, it just fits so perfect. They really do push every boundary, and I agree I haven’t seen their sound in other pedals or plugs (albeit I don’t use plugins and it might exist without me knowing). Oh it’s so fun! Still my fave fuzz pedal! Actually was a friend that recommended Fuzz Imp. Such a great recommendation! I started with the Shroot II and Drone Gazer, then got the Creature which I fell hard in love with! I highly recommend if you’re looking for a super tweakable and brutal fuzz. Definitely super boutique, single person company.

Let me add one more fun bit of feedback - - the video was so good at being fun yet methodical that I took my Chase bliss faves pedal and made a usable preset based on each modifier. I’m prepping for a long form music project, and this video helped me explore habit in a way where I can see a lot of ways to use it to compose for that project. I can’t thank you enough!

What have we learned? - Earth peoples still think they can travel in space - Sometimes, spaceships make great sounds - This dang astronaut was a dang FRAUDUS!!! - If you go to space, work on your Enzo first, don't be a dringus. Be prepared.
And knowing is half the battle!!

It’s the V2 with the soft switch and expression control. Best pedal ever! Sad to hear it is being discontinued, but probably something even better coming.

Yeah, this one has tons to go over. I tried to showcase the sounds more than writing about it, so things might not match up to what words are on the screen. Probably why I’m moving towards more of just sound examples versus in depth control details. Thanks nonetheless for watching!!!🤘🏻
