Everlast Siding- Fixing what my Contractor couldn't!
Everlast siding is a "newer" product and is better than vinyl (in my opinion), but it doesn't come without issues. Watch here for some tips on how to ensure gaps are minimized between pieces and watch your installers closely! (reposted to remove an extra clip with no audio)

2007 Lexus RX350 Emergency Brake Replacement

2007 Lexus RX350 Emergency Brake Replacement
I've been watching Everlast siding for a couple of years now and the biggest problem with it repeatedly seems to be installation error. It's too bad that you as a home owner have to go behind your contractor and fix what they didn't do right the first time. I talked to a siding contractor about it and his opinion was that it was probably a very good siding but it has not caught on in our area and contractors are reluctant to go away from what they are geared up to do.
Great work! I have similiar shelves and need to organize them too.
What type of screws did you use?
I believe they were a cabinet screw (maybe GRK but not sure) that gives the nice flat back part. I used 1 1/4 inch long. I didn't mention it in the video but we also installed OSB behind the siding along this long wall as a remedy for the contractor only trying to find studs to screw to.
The finished product looks great and it appears the contractor wasn't familiar with this product and installed it with cheaper standard vinyl siding "J" channel. The old read the instructions completely sure applies here.
Siding looks great ! What specific name is that color?
The color is called Blue Spruce. We love it.
Any information on how much need to torque ?
I didn't use a torque wrench for any of the bolts. It isn't as critical as something like a cover with a gasket. Tight enough so you know it isn't going to come off again. Hopefully you will never have to do it again.
Yeah , I pretty much rounded off the hex bolt . Thing would not hold still while I used the box end wrench 🔧. Paused operations until I can remove it. I watched one video where someone used a grinder to remove it. Either that or a shop is in my future.
Was your parking brake stuck on because the cable was old and corroded/rusted?
The cable was fine. There just wasn't enough pad to hold the car in place.
@@forsterclan-diy6907 we've just stopped using parking brakes on our old Toyotas because they often stick.
Excellent video!
PB Blaster has the strongest gasoline smell, btw! EXCELLENT video! Thank you!
Thank you
Did the installer put in the required stainless plate to connect butted panels?
They did put in the plates except for the top row which is another problem. They used J Channel for the top and should have used the everlast channel. If the siding is too tight to the wall the screws in the plates don't hold and are ripped out during expansion. Good luck to you.
Thank you for this video! My husband and I are doing the install ourselves and the temps have been in the 90s here. We are going to be extra careful.
THANKS BROTHER, THIS HELPED A TON !!! VERY GREAT VIDEO !!!
Everlast should be upset with the installer on this job. We are currently looking at siding replacement and this just put a big pause in considering Everlast.
Great Video! Did you notice any ride quality difference using a KYB strut?
I feel like I achieved the original ride quality which is why I chose this strut. It was more expensive, but I feel like it was worth it.
Really good video/explanation...thanks!
This is more on the installer. Your installer did a terrible job.
How did you put in the shoe hold down pin that’s angled I’m having a horrible time trying to fit it
I remember finding either a screwdriver or a piece of wood to wedge behind the pin to keep it in place while I pushed in the spring and captured it with the top washer.
Got the like at the mention of gumband! Yinzer legend!
The Allen bolt is annoying for those of us in snow country
Why did they make a freaking hex bolt inside of a crown nut for this process??? Clearly they only want Lexus Toyota mechanics to mess with this .
Wow there are so many install issues here, nailed to tight at nail fins. It looks like they didn’t get the rows level so the seams are not straight, I wonder if they used the brackets at the seams to keep them from opening up like that. (I doubt it). They nailed the top row at the bottom of the piece instead of the top. And the cuts on the freeze board and finish of the trim and J channel is unacceptable. My guess is they never installed this product before. I hope you can get this resolved with your installer
They did use brackets, but failed to keep it loose enough for it to expand and contract properly. This is also a 56 ft long wall that gets full sun so it was definitely a challenging install.
That is a challenge. Everlast recommends any runs over 60 feet be pinned in the middle by installing nails at either side of the nail slot (in the middle of the run) so expansion can only happen at the J or outside corner at either end of the run. hope that makes sense. I guess now we know that should be done even on runs anywhere near 60 feet
thanks for this, we were considering Everlast, but heard about the issues with extreme weather changes. We may go with Hardie instead.
Definitely an install issue- not a product issue
I like the product because of the no maintenance aspect, but recommend screening the installers carefully. If they try to slap it up in one day, you are going to have problems.
1: neverseize, use it for future easy removal of caliper bracket. This is one of the worse designed parking brake assemblies I have ever worked on. The pins and springs that hold the shoes to the backing plate are a pain in the neck. Also, the wear on the shoes seems strange unless someone drove the car with the parking brake on. These are parking brakes after all, and the car should be stopped before applying them.
well done! I recommend a similar process to insulate attic stair enclosures. If I build this type of enclosure I would use the feature you added to allow the cover to pivot without using a hinge if there is enough space. Here in Maine I do recommend at least 2, and preferably 3, layers of foam board and insulating the interior of all seams using spray foam to maximize the R value and minimize air leakage.
Video of the completed cabinet??
I like your DIY better than other versions of Insulating the attic stairs. Would you mind sharing the hardware that used to hook to the rod? Thanks
I used U bolts washers and nuts to hold the pivoting dowel rod and an eye bolt to "hook" the box for raising and lowering
@@forsterclan-diy6907 thank you!
