PEAK FALL FOLIAGE WEEKEND IN THE KATAHDIN WOODS & WATERS NATIONAL MONUMENT!
Join me on an Enchanting Fall Foliage Journey in Maine!
In this episode, we dive into the breathtaking splendor of Maine’s autumn hues as we explore the Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument. With the vibrant reds, golds, and oranges painting the landscape, it’s like nature herself decided to throw a grand soirée!
We’ll traverse the picturesque trails along the East Branch of the Penobscot River, where every twist and turn reveals hidden waterfalls cascading with the grace of a ballerina-if ballerinas wore leaf-colored tutus, that is!
Expect a hearty dose of fresh air, stunning vistas, and perhaps a few witty musings about how trees seem to have a better wardrobe than I do. Whether you’re an avid hiker, a foliage fanatic, or just someone in need of a virtual escape, this journey promises to inspire your autumn adventures.
So grab your flannel, channel your inner explorer, and let’s hit the trail together! Don’t forget to like, subscribe, and share your favorite fall spots in the comments below!

Nice job so showcasing the KWW. I love the beaver sightings and the fall foliage. You inspired me to get back up there this winter for a cross country ski. I had the pleasure of seeing the Tekakapimek Lodge this week, which is stunning and a strong tribute to the Wabanaki people. I recommend going back there to see it in its completed state. It's absolutely gorgeous. The birch bark canoe hand made by Jason and floor engraving of the waters around the Penobscot is amazing. I'll keep following you and share with my friends!
I wanna fly a Beaver in there to visit that beaver!
Love that area. I have yet to explore the new park but have been in the South Western part. We hiked from the North Katahdin lake Lean-to into the to Orin's falls on the Wassataquoik stream. Just spent 5 days at the Upper South Branch Lean-to. Beautiful, but brutal weather last weekend. Keep up the nice posts!
Yes ! Totally agree . I just played with a family of otters In a remote Oregon Lake . Caught lots of fish . Relection in the water are something special. My canoe made it happen !
Reflections are the best part!!
This is stunning - nothing beats fall in Maine
Warm days, cool nights, can’t lose!!
Yes sir
:)
Wow. Great job. Those carrys are insane. Glad I watched.
Thanks so much for watching! The carries truly are crazy! 🤪
Do you tie things to the canoe in case of accidents? Would you have a separate bag with handy stuff like a map and sun cream close to hand?
Yes -- for whitewater trips, surely, but this was just across a lake. I have a smaller bag with my sun screen, camera, etc that I keep at my feet! Great questions and thanks for watching! :)
Good information. Lose the background music.
Thanks for tuning in! :)
Congrats hell of a day but like I always say a rainy day in the adk is better than a sunny day anywhere else no place like the adk
Couldn't agree more -- such a great adventure base! Thanks for watching! :)
The only problem I see is putting the canoe that far in the water when first starting outside when you're loading on a river. 99.9% of my canoe trips are on rivers not lakes. So for me, it's load some things, push a little in the water, load a little more and so on.
Haha great point! It's always funny loading kayaks as the tide is going out too... :)
Seeing this gives me so much nostalgia, I haven’t been there for over ten years but I recognized so many trails immediately. I’m glad Saddleback got things sorted out&hope to ride up there this winter. Sarges is an amazing spot also, used to love going downtown when we’d be up at the cabin summer or winter.
Love to hear your memories from skiing Saddleback. Sarges is so great -- their French onion soup is our favorite! :)
You dudes rock without a doubt .The thing that really impressed me was you just did it on your own, you set out to do something and you got it done.
So appreciate the kind words! :)
Should've dry fly fished with blue wing olives. Sea run salmon run hard clear up to Sheepscot Pond up until July.
Next time for sure! :)
Cannonballing the 90 is freaking insane. So freaking badass
Haha it was a wild adventure to say the least. Thanks for watching! :)
I live in Maine and love it, great place to live.
We surely agree -- such a great place to live. Thanks for tuning into our videos! :)
not much response eh. we live less than 2 hrs north of GLS , i think we will give it a shot. for us it can be a day trip.
Great spot for sure. Thanks for watching our video! :)
Great video. Your lobster dress is the CUTEST!
So kind of you to say. Thanks for watching our videos! :)
Excellent job
Really appreciate the kind words! :)
Hiked up alone with my figures skates in January 1980, enjoyed some solitary skating
Whoa -- that sounds amazing. Thanks for watching the video! :)
Teens to Trails had a chance to bike pack with Alejandro too- so fun! I love his emphasis on adventuring without the hassle & environmental impact of car shuttles.
The zero carbon shuttle is so cool 😎
A new sport- to Maine anyway- is born. Kudos to Maine the Way to show the Way.
Thanks! You should try pack rafting sometime!
Nose and toes! Great job.
Thanks! Gotta stay safe out there!
A little less of close ups of you and more of the destination would be a plus.
👍
Why thank you for informing me.😊
No problem 😊
Very cool! Thanks for sharing!!
So glad you enjoy! :)
I am so jealous of all the fun you are having up in maine especially since the clothes you are wearing make me think that vinalhaven does not have routine 105 degree weather with 80% humidity 😂. Excellent work and i hope to one day ask you for telecommuting advice on stuff like internet reliability. stay unsweaty you deserve to be cool because all you guys in vinalhaven are cool best regards from somewhere several muggy hours south of maine❤😂
Haha Maine is an amazing place to be -- especially in the summer time. So glad you enjoyed the video! :)
Great video can you show me how to pack for a tour
Sure!
Fantastic video! Having paddled that NFCT section 1 and 2 in the summer of 2022 with my son, camping along the way, seeing you finish that in A DAY is mind-blowing to me! Seeing all those places again brings up great memories.
Love to hear that and so glad you enjoyed the video! :)
Keep up the good work.
Thanks for the kind words! :)
Stop
Why?
Where is this palace diner? I see a road trip in my future
Biddeford! :)
Can you camp on this island and do you need reservations
Check out Maine Island Trail Association for more info! :)
Right out of the gate, "work smarter.not harder". Subscribed.
Haha so true! :)
Beautifully done. Wonderful storytelling, photography and editing. Looking forward to watching many of your other videos. Subscribed!
Really appreciate your kind words! :)
Outstanding film! Great work, Ryan!
Such a fun adventure! :)
I have AT gear and always wondered if there was anything above the lifts that was worth the trip, so to speak. Doesn't look like much that would be enjoyable to ski back down. Your video skips the ski down from the false summit. The uphill from the lifts looks like you could boot pack it just as easy as skin it if you were not interested in going any farther than the false summit. In contrast, Sugarloaf has snow fields that are skiable and a back side that is steep and a bit of an adventure to ski.
The boot pack isn't so bad!
There is a much shorter portage around the Kings Mills Dam on the river right about 100 yds above the dam through a small parking area, Kings Mill Rd. waterdata.usgs.gov/monitoring-location/01038000/#parameterCode=00060&period=P7D&showMedian=false.
Quick tip for the next time you portage at night. With some larger waist band elastic or similar, you can carry your head lamp around your chest or belly. That way there is no dark shadow from the canoe and you’re not blinded by the reflection of the canoe.
Great tip -- thanks! :)
Would you tell me about your skates? We have speed skates, short track and long track - do you ever see people using them or should we move to nordic skates? Thanks!
Nordic skates are a bit different than speed skates -- would definitely recommend them for wild ice! :)
I always recommend a helmet to protect from potential head injury if/when you fall on the ice, which is somewhat inevitable regardless of skill level. I wear a downhill ski helmet. And agree you might want to re-mount your bindings to be centered on the blades.
Great tip! :)
Amazing! Congratulations! How did you avoid blisters on your hands?
Lots of paddling beforehand to build up callouses! ;)
That was good thank you!
Love to hear that! :)
Jealous of all the snow y’all have there already. None here in Virginia yet anyway. Might have to make a trip up north to see some! Love a good excuse to go to Maine! ❤ -Candice, Andrew, and Riley 🐾
Come on up!! :)
Ugh so jealous of that xc skiing. Looks amazing up there.
We lucked out with spectacular conditions!! :)
Thanks for the little trip. Every video makes me more excited about moving back home to Maine. Hopefully this year. Looking forward for more great videos
So glad to hear you enjoy our content. Hope you make it back to Maine soon! :)
We like the sight of winter.
Ditto!! ;)
Hey loved the vidoe guys! But is there any way you guys could get a mic of some sort? There is a bunch of background noise and it's very hard to hear from the very tinny mic. If not maybe put some subtitles when you guys are in a loud spot maybe? Keep the videos coming!
1000000% haha -- we were just talking about that! Thanks for the kind words about our vids! :)
I was planning to go to Vinalhaven but your video made me reconsider my plan so I'm not going there anymore since there's nothing there to see apart from MidNight Cheeseburger and a lighthouse, so thank you very much for saving me money and time.
Glad we could help!
Man I would've been in Baxter right around when you were last year. Had a cabin at Daicey pond and attempted doubletop up that steep side. Absolutely stonewalled by blowdown - couldn't believe it. Never seen anything like it.
Hope you had an awesome trip! The blowdowns were certainly wild haha! :)
