Changing units of measurement in Illustrator!
You can convert printed artwork built in Adobe Illustrator for the web by converting its color modality from CMYK to RGB, saving the file to PNG for easy uploading, and ensuring it’s the right size by changing the units of measure from INCHES to PIXELS.
I show you how to do all of this, plus a bonus segment on how to remove the background to make it TRANSPARENT. (Not to mention we review how to export multiple ARTBOARDS all at once for use in social media, like INSTAGRAM!)
This is a must-see video that reviews many of the basics every #crrreative designing artwork in Illustrator should know, so you can take your work from the printer to the screen flawlessly!

How & why to make multiple artboards in Illustrator!
มุมมอง 3.6K4 ปีที่แล้ว
Adobe Illustrator comes with a bunch of templates like brochures, business cards, banners, etc. that come with multiple artboards built into them. For example, the banner template has a TON of common web banner sizes so you can share common elements between all of them in one file! You can delete out extra artboards you don’t need, copy artboards, or add your own custom-sized artboards to your ...
How to resize layouts' canvas in Illustrator!

One of the reasons why Adobe Illustrator is my favorite graphic design program is because I can create artwork one time and then repurpose it for other layouts by easily resizing the canvas and reusing the elements. I really wish we could treat the whole document as the scope, not restarting each story. My very picky client is married to that idea. Even the ability to specify numbering for each story would do it. Of course, Adobe would much rather spend time on stupid AI toys.

    • @graphicsgrrrl
      @graphicsgrrrl 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Do you want each chapter to have its own footnote numbering? Don’t link the text boxes. Do you want to specify the start number? Go under options and enter the number it should begin with. If you have multiple stories, perhaps have separate unlinked text boxes for them so you can specify numbering independently. I’m not sure of your unique situation, but I empathize with your frustration so I’m trying to throw out ideas for you. Hopefully one of these solutions will help! Hi there! It may easier to first start with my previous video on how to make a mask out of a compound path here: th-cam.com/video/KHl2oxCB5pg/w-d-xo.html. For a border mask, once you outline the font of your word, you'll need to make the letters a compound path in order to have all letters act as one mask on an image. In short, you'll do the following: 1) type out your word, 2) copy that, 3) add a thick stroke for a border, 4) outline fonts, 5) outline the stroke on the font by Object / Path / Outline Stroke, 6) Ungroup if needed, 7) delete out the fill so you're just left with the strokes, 8) select all strokes and make a compound path of your selections by Object / Compound Shape / Make. Now they will act as one object to mask as usual: 9) File / Place / navigate to image, put image to back behind compound path strokes, make mask (Object / Clipping Mask / Make). You'll be left with a mask that has one image through all the letter's borders or strokes! You can even move the image to position the image while it's masked! Move the image, not the letters because the last step if you want the regular letters to be on top of the masked strokes is to: 10) paste the text in front by Edit / Paste in front. Hope this helps! Please subscribe!

Once you have the hang of that (it’s easier with just three steps!), then try one border mask and then try multiple shapes or letters that need to first be a compound path. That way, you’re not trying the most complex mask first! Good luck! Join my list on my website for free sessions! ❤️

      Interlaced creates an early degraded version of the image quickly, so viewers see something before they see everything. Given the speed of most connections now, try saving without the Interlaced option. I would recommend the PNG file format. I was trying to figure out how do I do this without messing it up, including footnote continuation. Found your video and it saved the day! I ended up using the text box to insert two footnotes, one next to the other on one line with a space in between and that added the two footnote text insertion areas at the bottom without having to give up another line of space. @@gnostie This has been an issue with InDesign for ages! The only ways I know of solving for what should be a built-in feature in book format is to link the text frames across chapters for continuous numbering or edit the footnotes in an exported PDF. I would opt for the first approach if you can, but to take the second approach, export your file from InDesign to PDF and edit the text in Acrobat Pro. The only other manual solution I’ve heard of people doing is to “fake” the footnote numering by setting the style to something like .1 pts with no color and entering the right number manually. Again, I’d first try linking the text boxes across chapters to avoid manual numbering. Good luck and please consider subscribing to my channel and checking out my free resources on graphicsgrrrl.com

    what you can't do in Illustrator is reset the rotation center and then use the rotation tool menu to specify the rotation angle, as it will again assume the geometric center of the object. You also can't reset the rotation center and make it stay there between actions. If you can do these things, the designers at Adobe sure succeeded in making it difficult to find. Remember a software called FreeHand?... EDIT: in order to reset the rotation center and be able to use the rotation menu box, press ALT while clicking to reposition the rotation center. As for making the rotation center permanent, there really seems to be no solution.

    It looks like you rotated it off an off-centre point.. how do I set the rotate point to be centred on the circle in that example?

    • @graphicsgrrrl
      @graphicsgrrrl ปีที่แล้ว

      It typically defaults to the center of the object. I wanted to show that you can move it elsewhere prior to rotating, but you can certainly place your cursor back on the center to rotate from there. Please subscribe and check out my Illustrator playlist!

      @@graphicsgrrrl Seems it's not wait you said. It's not in the center. The pivot point just stays where you clicked it. May I ask how to precisely select the center? Preferrably, let me enter the pixel coordinates.

    How does one add commas between double endnote reference numbers in text? i.e. The sentence is here.(superscript)3,4 I'm hoping there is an easy fix I am overlooking.

    I want to do this automatically though. I cannot scan double sided with my printer so I have to flip the pages and rescan the other side of the originally scanned pages. This then leaves a reordering nightmare where i have very large documents that i now have to manually sort the even and odd pages. Is there an automatic way I can achieve this using adobe Pro???? I literally have to drag the last page to the #2 position, then drag the now last page to the #4 position then drag the now last page to the #6 position and on and on and on. This can be very tedious for a 100 page document. I need help.

      Hellooo! When you scan each side, save it as its own pdf, so you'll have one pdf of the front pages and one pdf of their backs. Then combine the two pdfs. I thought there was a way to make one pdf the even pages to interweave them together, but because I wasn't able to quickly do that, I found this script on this Adobe forum that may help you! community.adobe.com/t5/acrobat-discussions/how-can-i-merge-even-and-odd-pages-of-a-pdf/td-p/3387292
