Didn't buy much this year, but I had a fun time as always! Was great seeing some familiar faces and meeting some new ones as well! I didn't capture the best footage, but it was towards the end of the show, and my lack of a good night's sleep was catching up with me. Still, I wanted to film "something" for those who couldn't make it to the show or for those who attended but might still enjoy.

Can a person take the seeds out of a privy and grow a small garden out of them? It seems like a person could reintroduce heirloom tomatoes long since gone…

I love watching your digging videos and especially all of the super old bottles and jars that you guys dig up. I am an older man and I have been digging and collecting since the mid 1960's. I live in Australia. I would like to comment about how you dig your pits but I mean no offence when I say that you seem to dig a small opening and tunnel down to the trash layer which frustrates me. I have always dug from corner to corner with the top of the hole completely opened I and leave nothing behind. I have also on many occasions re dug other peoples holes and found good stuff that they left behind because they were not thorough enough. Keep up the hard work and thank you for posting your digs for everyone to enjoy.

Great find ryan i love windsor stuff i keep anythings i find from pre 1940s i have a 1880s house in the village
lets get digging
I really hope you kept most of the transfer ware fragments and try reconstructing the pieces. For those that love puzzles it's great fun and restored pieces can be valuable not to mention the historic value.
@lucdaigle2394 From this pit I think we did keep some, but not all. Usually the earlier pits like this we do try to keep most of it though. Just time consuming and we are both very busy

When you rub the dirt off of the silver coin, you are scratching it and reducing it's value.

@@craziedigging4590 Thanks!!
How do you know when you have reached bottom? As far as I can tell, most diggers don't finish the holes they dig. I'm working on an idea for an automated bottle digging machine. I would recommend that you rig up a four corner canvas tent with lighting, cameras, batteries and even a pulley system to haul buckets of dirt out of the hole. I personally keep all the glass shards, grind them up into colored sand.
Pretty much all of the pits we dig here have extremely compacted hard pan on the bottom. They are almost perfectly flat "floors" of the outhouse pits. We typically do try to probe deeper when we think we hit bottom, just to confirm there isn't a hard/thick cap layer covering more use layers. Thanks for watching!
I don't think it's a door stop , I think it's to help remove your boot.
@roberta5278 Boot jack yeah. Commonly used as both though
How much does time affect glass after it is buried in the ground?
@bwilliams463 Not much at all. It's more so the minerals and stuff in the ground that reacts with the glass causing the "sickness" irridation that you can see on the glass
@@ParlorCityPickersDiggers I asked because Tom Askjem mentioned on one of his excavations that some breakage can occur after burial. The reason he gave was shifts in the ground and subsequent compaction and I was wondering why he brings up more intact, but newer artifacts than I see here. This is the first of your vids that I have watched, so please forgive me if you have previously explained this a dozen times.
@@bwilliams463 tom typically digs pits newer than 1890. Newer bottles (made in 1880s or newer) were just made a lot better and didn't break as easily. They used thicker glass better materials and just had a lot better understanding and technology at that time to streamline and mass produce bottles. The bottles you see in this pit are some of the earliest American made glass (1830s-1850s). A majority of the bottles of that time period have paper thin glass and are just overall very primitive compared to bottles made after 1880. They break very easily making complete examples of these early American glass some of the rarest most sought after and valuable bottles in the world. Hence why we get so excited over digging the early glass and is what we are always on the hunt for.
*Art Nouveau* - anywhere from 1870 -1914 inspired by flowing/swirly lines and nature. *Art deco* - 1920 - 1940 inspired by geometric shapes and sharp angles. They tended to overlap in between the two decorative eras.
I saw on TikTok where some people wanted y'all to try the contents and I was thinking to myself really do they not know that in some of those old sodas they put stuff like cocaine
I remember digging one pit and all I kept pulling was Dr pepper and Coke bottles it only a handful were actually intact The rest were mainly bits and pieces
You got that right medicine during that era was literally alcohol mixed with hardcore drugs that can get you arrested today
Yep! Pretty wild. May not have made you feel better, but it made you forget why you were feeling unwell in the first place! 🤣🤣
I wonder if the reason so many bots are broken is because they emptied the original hole several times and dumped it in the good spot?
Stop letting the bottles and other glass fall and break. Hurts my heart.
@@evelyncole9948 Not sure what you're referring to
nice find enjoyed the video
@@treasurehuntingscotlandmud9340 Thanks! Glad to hear it
How long will the suspense last? What were they coins? Was that hole really dug out or did you get tired and abandoned it. It really seems like there should have been more to that hole than meets the i-phone.
@kennethcapron1294 We show all of this in the video, so I'm not sure what you're saying. We just haven't cleaned the coins yet but we did clean some and they are late 1800s Indian head pennies
That's all I wanted to know.
I would need to talk to a shrink after such a unbelievable dig. I don't even know you guys, but it hurt down to Florida.
If you can find those old fairgrounds they are complete honey holes! Looks like by the final reveal you guys cleaned up. Nice work!

Morning, Guys - I'm happy I've found your channel. I grew up in coastal Maine and my late brother & I were into digging old bottles and collecting the old glass insulators. We also enjoyed combing our area antique shops. This was in the late 1960s while we were just kids. I sure have some great memories of those days, we had such a blast doing it. The only real information we could find then with regard to digging/collecting antique bottles was our little local library and a few of the town's old timers. I still have just a couple of the bottles we dug back then, a "Dr. True's Pinworm Elixir," and a "Duffy's Malt Whiskey." I think a nice aqua colored insulator, too. Yeah, those were some good days - and I could actually feel the excitement of the dig watching you. I like that you've tried conserving your broken finds, ("Heart-Breakers.") as you too will have a bunch of great memories. Looking forward to checking out your other adventures here, and I wish you much luck with your future explorations! Take care...
@davestelling Dave, thanks so much for the comment and kind words! Sorry about your brother. I'm glad you made some good memories and happy to hear you enjoy our videos! We have a new video currently in the works and we are planning to hopefully dig another pit tomorrow! ⚒️
