Luther Perkins (born on January 8, 1928) died on August 5, 1968, after falling asleep on a couch at home with a cigarette in his mouth. He returned from a fishing trip. His niece, by marriage, woke up around 6 AM to find the living room ablaze and Perkins on the floor, and he was almost dead. They rushed him to the hospital, where was kept in the ICU until he died two days later. He's buried near John and June. At Folsom Prison was his last big show with the band before he passed.
