OM Systems Focus Bracketing Guide
in this video, I am going to talk about the Olympus focus bracketing feature while also providing some tips and tricks to improve your techniques and the right settings to have. There are 2 stacking modes one called focus stacking and the other one being focus bracketing. This video i am just going to cover bracketing. Focus bracketing is a form of focus stacking but instead of the traditional method where you take a shot and move your camera forward with each shot, your camera in bracketing mode will do most of the work for you without you having to move your camera at all. If you are like me and you do a lot of focus stacking, having a camera with bracketing will make stacking much easier. All you have to do is try and keep your camera as stabilized as possible while you are taking the photos which is easier said than done sometimes but hopefully this video will help with your techniques.

Trey, I’ve watched a few of your videos this morning ( in the UK ), and I’m blown away by both the quality of your videography and more importantly the tutorials themselves. The advice you give is very easy to follow, your attention to detail of the content (insect name, exit data etc) is outstanding. But most of all I’m taken by the peace you instil in me personally while I watch your videos. No rushing, no drama just quiet, informative and quality content. Thank you….and subbed 🤙

Hey bro, thanks for the guide. A question: Why lower the shutter speed instead of raising the flash? I've just got the OM-1 ii and it can do brackets at 1/100, surely the faster the better to minimise movement etc?

I’m new to all this: so basically stacking is when you take multiple shots and then transfer those shots to CP and the CP stacks them as one photo in order to get the best resolution? Correct me if I’m wrong which I probably am

I own and tried all three stacking softwares you mentioned. While photoshop does a good work (especially at aligning frames) it's considerably slower than Helicon/Zerene. So if you intend to work with 100+ frames deep stacks I absolutely recommend to pick either Helicon or Zerene. Helicon is my favorite because the pro version can actually stack the raw files so no need to convert your raws into tiff files before stacking. Also in my experience Helicon colors and noise are quite better than Zerene. Though I 100% agree that Zerene has a much better post editing tool that allow you to merge several finished stacking methods together which is not possible with Helicon.

zerene seem more utilitarian but is very effective, and you only need to buy it once and you will get future updates. it seems like it is just a professional tool that is made available to everyone. some of my friends often have helicon and it is modern looking and fast, but i like the retouch better in zerene especially after you get use to the keyboard shortcuts along with a tablet. helicon i believe has a yearly subscription. i know zerene has batch processing so i will queue up several stacks and let them run and then go back and see which i want to do more with. zerene also can do slabbing if you have deep stacks...so it may do 10 images at at time with a couple of image for overlap then uses all of those "slabs" to make the final stack. this really helps with cleaning up the final image when you have stacks that have 100 images for example. both programs have free trials for a month so you could people can try it on some of their stacks to see how they compare to what was done in photoshop.

Great video👌Personally I like Zerene, I constantly get better results then Helicon and retouch of Zerene is better IMO. But Helicon is way faster..
