Helena Ripping Up Alta 2024

Sixty Nm of open water from the south end of Beaver Island to Washington Island. We saw absolutely no boats until we were quite close to Washington Island. It is very important to pick your day on this crossing, especially at our speed and carry spare fuel filters. Note: my wife does spend significant time at the helm and is an excellent navigator. And the boat gets littered with books.

It was very cloudy, light rain, waves were coming directly at us from the west. It looked daunting but really was not.

We were on the way home from the Georgian Bay in August, 2019. We had stayed in Kincardine for three intensely hot days waiting for a strong, scorching wind from the south to abate. We were on a week-long trip to the desert that started in Zion, then to the Vermillion Cliffs in Arizona, and finally up through the Escalante Grand Staircase in Utah.

77 Nm passage with a stiff breeze from starboard stern...We had waited in Kincardine three days to make this leg of the trip home to Lake St. Clair. We overnighted in Port Huron and got home the next day.

Second day on a trip to bring the Grand Banks 32 Solvogn home to St. Clair Shores, MI from Bayfield WI. We started at dawn from a bay at the eastern end of the channel through the Kewanee Peninsula and anchored in Munising Bay at the south end of Grand Island .

A historic crossing that connected Southeastern Utah with Southwestern Utah. Long ago it was a ferry crossing. Now it is a bridge on Utah Highway 95, built in the late 1900's to connect the two lower quadrants of Utah. In this video we were looking east after coming across the bridge and driving up to a vista point.
