- Motoring into the North Channel in Lake Huron, going east. The far northern end of Lake Huron is in Ontario. Parallel to it, and about sixteen miles to the south lies an archipelago of Canadian islands, thus defining the North Channel. These islands stretch about 80 miles from west northwest to east southeast. This water between the islands and the northern shore is one of the ten top cruising grounds in the world for sailors. It is a land of islands, pine trees, snug coves and rock outcroppings of limestone and pink granite. In this video we were on the way into the north channel, having gone about 15 miles.
