Hello there
Caltrain 2024 Holiday Train at Menlo Park
12/8/24
Day 2 of the Caltrain 2024 Holiday Train.
JPBX 921 "San Martin" , the locomotive leading the Holiday Train has made itself a name for many train enthusiasts ever since it got rebuilt in 2019. As of to this day, it's horn is extremely fouled creating a squealing, honk like sound. This lead to many railfans comparing it to the sound of geese. Also to complement its fouled horn is the single chime horns of the EMU's which in some way sound similar though the pitches are different. Even if most of the F40s were retired, 921 along with 2 other MPI F40PH-2C's still remain. Gotta say, if you can't beat them, gotta join them.

Last week as of the uploading of this video, marked the last week of the F40s as on Saturday, September 21, diesel trains will stop running north of San Jose in favor of Stadler KISS EMUs. This also means the end of the F40s as well as the Nippon Sharyo Gallery cars as they are showing their age. As of right now, today marks about a week left for Caltrain's F40PHs roaming the corridor from San Francisco to San Jose and Gilroy. Due to Caltrain electrifying their line and the introduction of KISS EMU's built by Stadler, the F40s of Caltrain have reached their end as they reach about 40 years in service. The trains that had the EMUs I caught for today were trains L5 505 and B7 712. Caltrain EMU Soft Launch: First Day of Passenger Service

On August 11, Caltrain ran their first Stadler KISS EMUs into passenger service starting with train 221, the first overall train of the day lead by JPBX 305/306. Following train 221 terminating at SF, JPBX 305/306 were used on SB train 228, then NB 241, and finally SB 260. I wonder if Caltrain is keeping at least two gallery cars for the Holiday Train? I know for certain that next year, AEM-7 #938 is being used on the Holiday Train (as told to me by a volunteer who works on the train).
Didn't know they were still using the F40PH on the south county connector! I thought it was all MP36 at this point.
Yes. They retired the mid-80s trains (they're going to Lima, Peru) and 920-922 were made in the late 90s
spent 3 hours trying to do this and ended up cracking the shell
@@eddypicklestein3961 I actually ended up breaking the thin part of skirt/lower half towards the rear. Idk how cracking the shell happened because honestly I expected the thin part below the shell to snap first since it is very fragile. I did find another way on how to separate the shell. Should I upload an updated video.
6:23 he has that classic announcer's/host voice that's very pleasant to hear, I like the way he announced the delay and reason clearly and without fuss.

Heard they're going to continue to run for a few more months on the South County Connector.
Peru bought 19 F40s and 90 gallery cars from Caltrain for 6 million USD. They'll be used in a brand new commuter train service to the capital city Lima

Hope your enjoyed your stay in our beautiful city. My heat always goes a flutter when I hear the "Dou-dou-dou" of the MR-73s. I grew up riding these métro cars from the late 70s, but I miss the MR-63s. Have to go to Exporail to see the one they have, which was the ones used to present the métro cars to the Commission de transport de Montréal in late 1965. 81-1501's front was too close to the wall of the Vickers factory on Notre-Dame est to get good photos with the dignitaries, so they chose to go to the other end of element 1 (81-1501 / 80-0001 / 81-1502) instead. Did you try the REM while you were here?
@@gmnewlook Yes I did try the REM but the furthest I went was Panama and there will be a video of it soon. Also I was actually born in Montreal and lived near the Green and Orange Lines. My earliest childhood memory of the Montreal Metro was either on the Green or Orange lines and seeing the MR-63s or MR-73s started my interest in trains since they were probably the first trains I saw in my life. I do miss the MR-63s and will soon miss the MR-73s in 6 or so years.
Bart is so annoying and the noise is "ugh"... You sit down and everyone place their genitals up your face and some do not wear underwear... Annoying
I'm a former BART Director. I want the public to know that BART is bankrupt. Due to declining ridership it's a bottomless money pit and survives only through short term state and federal government subsidies. It's time for BART to file bankruptcy and privatize. 👎
@@arlosmith2784 I’m sorry but I disagree with your statement. Privatization isn’t the way to go since it will make things worse by having a higher chance of corruption and fare increases and which can encourage more fare evasions or people will just avoid it. Just look at the BART’s predecessor, the Key System. It was a private company and corruption and increased fares lead to its downfall and eventual shutdown. Plus BART is a public service not a corporation and all what matters is that it is transporting and serving the people around the Bay Area.
@@trevorderper5050 You obviously haven't read the report Director Debora Allen has prepared. BART is bankrupt. The only solution is privatization. 👎
Magnificent catches of the trains coming by and depart from the station, I like it 5 stars. Thumbs up. Keep up the perfect work, my friend just liked and subscribed, Greetings from Portugal to the USA.
I sure wish METRA RAIL of Chicago would follow suit and elecrtify all of its commuter lines . Right now the Electric Metra only serves the South Suburbs.
This very fast accelerate und decelerate is the reason to save some😊 minutes when they change the schedule in september 2024 (under 1 hour at express trains between SF and SJ & local service will be 75 minutes instead of 100)
They can’t fill 4-car trains now. How will they fill 7-car trains?
I won't ride until the fall. Too infrequent right now.
I mean when the EMU’s debut, the Giants season will be still ongoing so these will probably at crush load whenever there is a Home game at SF.
what are the full fleet numbers for these trains?
Cab cars are in the 300s (301-346) and intermediate cars are in the 3000s series.
These are extremely BART-like in person. If there weren't a bell then you wouldn't even be able to tell that the sound is not that of a BART train. Let's go Caltrain! Put these in service so that I can take a ride!
They do indeed accelerate and decelerate pretty quickly.
Super rail clip, nice trains! Thumbs Up Greetings from Romania Andrew

Did caltrains retire their gallery cars?
Not yet. Just these 12 cars and another batch of them I believe probably are at Warm Springs already. But surely in the coming months Caltrain will slowly start phasing and it’s Gallery cars and F40s in preparation for the EMUs in Fall of this year.
