Great video. Do you think a reasonably handy homeowner should try doing a torch-on roof or is it better to go with peel and stick? We're in the high desert area of southern California. We need to replace our carport roof. You make it look easy but some say that it takes years to learn to do torch-on without over or under cooking it. Is it really that difficult to DIY?

Great quality work, I have been working on roofing for 31 years and that's the way I do it, the metal edging 2x4 boundarized works better than galvanized flashing as well, quality means price and a lot of people doesn't understand that hiring cheaper contractors but having leaking issues in a short period of time, but once the warranty expired contractors are not responsible for the future roofing messed or leaking issues. GREAT WORK 👍 🙏🙏🙏💪💪💪

Have you found any problems with Titanium 50 2 ply, I have not found a roofer that will install Synthetics here in the inland empire. They basically are even concerned with SBS UDL such as Layfast SBS UT43 2 ply - but they will install this.

There was numerous issues. I’ve been torching for over 15 years. I appreciate you trying to teach but there are much better procedures. First I would have primed the wood and used a peel and stick. Next you need a fire extinguisher especially on a wood deck. And we definitely don’t call it a flame thrower.

Whats the reason for the Mini Smooth roll?

I have a new guy that and he insists that the less metal caps the better since they can ‘raise up from the heat’ I said no we cap down just like roofing paper that way the torch don’t blow the paper up letting the fire get to the wood causing a fire and that those button caps help how the roof down since the top is torched to the base. I said what holds that base THE CAPS! I told him you might as well not cap it and just torch it down let the wind come and see what happens. There’s more to the story but I was taught Bain down accordingly heat up the base then the roll then roll and step. This guy torches the rubber so hot when it’s all done it’s looks like drag strip burn box. There’s no nice finish and looks like shit.

we had a tile roof inspector look at our roof. he said on this tile the manufactur didn't put sealant all through the tile and the sun degraded it. the tile will soak through soon we need to replace the tile. 30 to 50 thousand. im a bit leary

Wow that's different last time I built a house my roofers torched the first layer right onto the plywood. 🤦‍♂️ It did seem kind of risky but I'm not a roofer so I wasn't sure if that was the correct way of doing it. I suppose they saved a lot of time and money on nails. Lol

What is the purpose of the "smooth" layer. I can see that it adds to overall thickness, but once you "lose" the top layer, the smooth layer wouldn't provide any waterproofing without the top layer--or would it?
