Why This Australian Town is Art Deco Heaven
มุมมอง 483 หลายเดือนก่อน
Mackay in North Queensland is famous for its Art Deco and Heritage buildings. After a destructive cyclone in 1918 much of the city had to be rebuilt and luckily for us Art Deco was the style of the period. Numerous beautiful buildings are scattered through the main city precinct. With the aid of a couple of pamphlets from the local information centre or just allowing your eye to wander as you w...

Gulgong is a small historical town in Midwestern New South Wales, famous for the Gold Rush and Henry Lawson. It is about a half hour drive north west of Mudgee. Historically it was one of the main gold mining areas in New South Wales after the precious metal was found there in 1870. It grew rapidly at that time and has managed to maintain its historical integrity. It’s an interesting town to vis...
Sapphire Fossicking at Grabben Gullen Creek NSW
มุมมอง 13K8 หลายเดือนก่อน
My first attempts at sapphire fossicking. I was lucky enough to meet Beau, an experienced fossicker, who was kind enough to give me a great introduction and many insights into the techniques of sapphire fossicking. Even though I wasn't successful in finding any sapphires, I learnt so much from him that I am confident that with more practise, I will find some. As Beau says, "the more rocks you p...
On The Road - Lennox Head NSW Australia

On The Road - Lennox Head NSW Australia
I worked around Chinchilla for around ten years and found some great pieces of petrified wood.
I can imagine that. I went to the museum at Miles and they had an astounding collection.
So what has the wood become? Is it agate? I have some pyritised wood from a place here in England called Walton on the naze but I think its the only type of fossilised wood I've found
My understanding is that it is agate, someone else may be able to clarify. It tumbles and polishes nicely, some of the cut examples I've seen are stunning.
A sawn off toothbrush would be a handy tool to brush the dirt and dust off of the stones (cut half the handle off of a cheapo toothbrush). I used to carry one when I was metal detecting
What a great idea. I have one I need to replace so, that's what I'll do. Thank you.
Love the music and your fossicking adventures! The music made me think of one of my favourite TV shows - Deadwood. That sunset interlude was valso ery beautiful.
Thanks for your comments, they are much appreciated.
What a great introduction to an amazing place……thank you for this video!!! I sure wish I could travel there and collect such beautiful petrified wood as you found…..stunning!! And I must say, I laughed out loud at your comment as you closed the squeaky gate……well done you!! I will most definitely recommend and watch this again so I can get another glimpse of your first day finds and that pelican at sunset….spectacular!!!!😁
Thanks very much for your kind comments. It is a great place to fossick and so accessible. Just about anyone can find something interesting here. Great camping and fishing as well. Thanks again.
Take Two: I'd love to hear your comments on my fossicking adventure to Chinchilla in Queensland.
My elder wiser ancestors made me look at your headline, and I saw, "Forsaking Sapphires, the Rubies did." Creating the imperial colour of Kingdom come, Purple. Where kings and kings men were born. Sadly, the walls came tumbling down on the red inc. and we can see purple no more. However, do you love blue skies? Yellow sunshines? Brilliantly blue hues, pink and green coloured stars? Heaven and Heart is what we see when we remove the blood from the Blue Sapphire. #BlueAlien #Futureteller #Mom #Creator Never forsake love for money and things. Love, Herstory. OY.
I do love Blue Skies and yellow sunshine. I also love cloudy rainy days, windy days, I love every day.
Lovely little road trip, sorry you didn't find a Sapphire, they really did do a good job cleaning up. Loved seeing the birds, big fan.
I really appreciate your kind words! It means a lot to hear that you enjoyed the trip and the feathered friends!
That white skeleton tree is amazing!
It really stands out doesn’t it? Lots of people sign it.
As a RockHound hobbyist, I love to follow where you go and watch for what you find…..and thank you for sharing info on the willoughby……that was certainly new to me….. Keep exploring and posting, please!!!
I'm glad you enjoyed it. I think the Willoughby is an Australian thing... not sure.
Sign, sign, everywhere a sign.
It’s a sign! 🪧😊
I go a few times a month but cold freezing water this time of year Gotta work the banks to get the good ones 😊
My fingers are cold just thinking about it.😎
Ive done lots of rocking down the gg. Found diamonds pink and purple and alot of white. Lots of sapphires and zircon too. The biggest diamond was .75 of a crt and is a perfect octahedron. The purple is the best, though more of a cube shape. Still in the rough. Ill cut it one day when i get the balls
That’s fantastic, I’ll have to get back down there some time.
No way not diamond?? We have viles full of stuff that looks like diamond
Are you aloud to camp there
I think you can camp there. There are some nice flat spots right at the creek. You would have to check though.
Yes definitely no showers or toilets bloody cold this time of year Hit me up if your heading there I live about 20 mins away
I went to Lightning Ridge in 1968
I wish I had seen it then.
@@OnTheRoad...Again23 i liked Lightning Ridge I was in high school then
That’s where I was too
@@OnTheRoad...Again23 I think I was in 3rd form in 1968. We were living at Avoca Beach then.
fun and informative
Thank you
Where was the old horse trough in the main street? Hope it's still there 👍
I don’t remember seeing it, but that doesn’t mean it’s not still there.😁
@@OnTheRoad...Again23 I googled, Gulgong horse trough, and it's still there 👍
I really enjoyed this revisit, especially for seeing what we couldn't previously: the interior of the Opera House. Many thanks.
I’m glad you enjoyed it.
I went there in 1968
It would have been very different then.
@@OnTheRoad...Again23 yes it was alot different. But the people were friendly. But when it rained you had to get out quickly. We were in a 1952 Chevrolet.
52 Chevy sounds like a cool way to travel. There are a lot of old rusty vehicles out there that never left. I guess that’s where all the car doors come from.😊
@@OnTheRoad...Again23 we took the car to Queensland where I live now and we had to get petrol when we got to Qld and the guy that was filling the car up was thinking a girl was whistling at him. I said to the guy it was the car whistling when he was putting the petrol in the car. We sold the car in Qld.

Glad you enjoyed it. There seem to be quite a few places in NSW that are accessible even for us older folk.
Not much spinel. ?
Not a lot. Beau scored some small sapphires.
What a fun adventure!! Makes me want to explore the nearby river and do some digging….😊😊
