Orienteering headcam - short practice course at Riverfront Park
Another short practice course with no controls. Another test of the HeadcamO software.
Running felt terrible. Slow but hard work. Breathing wasn't normal. I'm going to take it very easy the next week and give my body some rest. Very easy = nothing more than an easy 30 minute walk (or less) each day.

Walking across the KU campus. The first snow of the season fell on Saturday after Thanksgiving. Campus was quiet with a lot of students out of town. I'm sure the snow kept people home, too. This was part of a long-ish walk to give my legs a break from running.

I jogged through a short simple course (no markers) at Clinton Rockhaven. I used the "Headcam Orienteering" software to process the video wobelix.dk/blog/headcam-orienteering/ The trails are completely leaf covered. They don't show up very clearly in the images. They are also rough with rocks and holes hidden under the leaves.

Headcam orienteering on a little 1:2500 map with a short course, but lots of controls. My body is still struggling and my navigation was rusty. Fun but disappointing that my body doesn't feel the way it did a couple of months ago.

A short course - no markers. My body is still struggling. My left knee is not really a problem anymore...so that's some good news. The course is simple and not especially interesting. But it is always fun to run with a map.

Biking from Kasold to Clinton Lake on the Lawrence Loop with a detour through the arboretum and a trip to the base of Sanders Mound. Very few people out today - no idea why, the weather was perfect.

Headcam orienteering training (no markers) at Woodridge. I've been struggling with a sore/swollen knee and some illness the lats 5-6 weeks. I'm still not 100 percent, but this was the best I've felt in a long time. I was moving slowly, but felt not too terrible.

I walked from near the Chancellor's house to Lindley Hall on a quiet Sunday morning. I'd forgotten how loud the various heating and ventilation systems for buildings can be. I'm feeling a lot better and my knee is close to normal. I hope I'm back to being able to run some orienteering and post some headcam videos soon.

Just a few minutes on the KU campus. Testing a few settings on the camera. Chilly, but comfortable, and a little bit of light mist fell.
Short bike ride - downtown Lawrence and Old West Lawrence October 2024

I rode my bike along Mass and then a few blocks in Old West Lawrence. Walking on Mass St is nice. But driving or biking on it feels like you are in a parking lot.

I consume a lot of youtube. . . so I usually set playback speed to 1.5X, and at that rate, you're flying!

This looked much steadier...pretty clear too...cool little railroad. Does your program for videos allow you to do add-on commentary, or do you do that during the YT production? And where do you import your gps/gpx track into?
The mapflixer software combines the creates the animation of the map and gps track. It also combines those with the headcam video. I've never done any added commentary. Mapflixer isn't designed to do that, but I guess any video editor would be fine.
Thanks for sharing...I’m still in the process of trying to make my own videos. One thing though...do you have stabilization settings on your camera? The video was kinda hard to watch with the shaking. I use a pack strap mount and it not only is more stable...but also when I am looking around, or up and down quickly ...that’s not shown...
This one was made with an old GoPro and no in-camera stabilization. I used FFMPEG (within the mapflixer software) to stabilize. I think in-camera GoPro stabilizing works better. I've tested a chest-mount. But I think the head mount is better. I like being able to see where I was looking when I'm reviewing a course. Hopefully in-camera stabilizing will make a difference. But even with that, looking both ways before crossing a road is going to look bad on the video.

You should try mounting the camera on your head or getting a stabilized gopro. It is a shame that I couldn't watch this as I got motion sickness. I use a go pro hero 7 with a head mount - see here th-cam.com/video/RX7Zkdxqe4E/w-d-xo.html
