Beautiful
Maybe you should have considered running the vibrolux with the bright switch engaged. Unless you have had the bright cap in the deluxe clipped which most pro players do.
I agree. Please see the rematch with bright switch listed in the description.
@ tnx
Playing so clean and tasteful. Nowhere to hide if you miss a note, which Ed never seems to do.
Agreed, although there is a rare mistake from Ed here at 1:46 th-cam.com/video/96qHH0YsKyE/w-d-xo.htmlsi=B4fW9b6mlu7Dl7mj&t=106
Great players. Today you rarely can hear such !
I came back from your other video (and commented about the bright switch). I love this video. Last video was easy win for the Deluxe, but this now evens the score and it becomes a matter of personal preference. My ear gives the edge to the Deluxe, but Vibrolux absolutely holds its own. Thank you for the follow up
My choice is the L7, it just sounds much brighter, sings a bit more. The Masterbuilt sounds kind of dull. But recently I tried a couple of New York Epiphones, a 1950 Devon and a 1947 Triumph, extremely reasonably priced for what they are. I think those could give the L7 a run for its money. The prices for both of these New York Epiphones was basically in the price category of what you might pay for a new Loar...
VR sounds congested to my ears (unless it is my ears! 😁) Pretty sure a little tweaking and/or speaker rolling would reveal more brightness - both are stellar amps!
The bright switch was off. See the rematch with bright switch on. Link in description. Thanks.
The Masterbilt definately souds the best all around. Thanks for making more people aware of how silly it is to theow away hard earned money on a name.
Thanks so much for sharing this great piece of work!
Just traded my L5 for a telecaster. Thanks Ed
I heard him with Rob McConnell & Neil Swainson- relaxed (nice counterpoint to Rob’s ebullient presence:-)), playing over the bar, the stuff he left out would fill volumes of jazz standardry. It was, quite simply, beautiful. A real privilege to sit a few feet away and marvel that a guy with a beat-up Tele Deluxe and equally road-weary Princeton could rival any jazz guitarist anywhere… it ain’t about the gear.
Ed Bickert was Canada's best-known jazz guitarist. One of my favorites of all time.Got to know of him when he played with Paul Desmond.
Bravo
Thanks.
i prefer the weber
This is perfect! how do I get the tab download?
Link in the description. Thanks.
very nice what amp are you using
Thanks. 1976 Fender Deluxe Reverb.
Was more about the music than the actual guitar.
Excellent work Garry! Thanks for the tabs!
You're welcome. Thank you.
thanks for the tabs will give it ago
Great. Good luck.
Amazing stuff, no easy feat to suss out those densely Ed Bickert chord voicings!!
Thanks. You're right, but it's almost a religious experience to learn Bickert's voicings.
Just found this. What a great sound they achieve. I was lucky enough to see Ed Bickert play a solo show at George’s Spaghetti House in 83 or 84. He joined us for a smoke and a drink in between sets. I didn’t realize then how lucky I was.
Very cool video. I have a bit of a collection, and I justify it, to an extent, by all but two have different pickups- thus all the gibsons sound different and same for fenders. I dont have any 57 classics- but with your touch, the range of sounds are perfect.
Thanks for your comment.
Chet Atkins is my life long hero but Ed Bicker and Danny Gatton are why I play Telecasters .
Nicely produced demo, Garry. I liked the 335 the best with the 175 following. The flat wounds provide a different tone. Beautiful guitars that you make sound even better. Thank you!
Thanks, Bob.
Nice solo version of Stella. There’s a tune?🤓 In terms of tone, my experience with your cleverly woven performance going seemlessly from one guitar to another, is the 335 sounds the most balanced from top to bottom.
Thanks. Interesting -- the 335 is the one guitar I never use for jazz.
@@Kilgore40 Maybe it’s worth considering with just the 1st string up by perhaps a thou. You play well man .
So wait, Costello was not the original writer and recording artist of Alison?
Yes he was, but John McFee played guitar on the track.
thank for the trans script gives us lesser players something to aim for
You're very welcome. Thanks for the comment.
well done!
Thanks!
The Fender reissue sounds like a mud fart. The amp you made has a bright clean & chimey tone. I would like to hear them both over driven without pedals.
Well, here's the Weber overdriven without pedals: th-cam.com/video/VYFfcxYecB4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=z1cR4gbE1LPobm2q
Listen to WAVE...Ed Bickert and Paul Desmond
many many thanks !!!
You are welcome!
I love it.
Speakers in the Vibro sound tired.
I think it's because the bright switch was off. I usually play jazz. See the rematch linked above. Thanks.
What was the guitar that you used in this and the other demo of both amps?
Gibson ES-335
How beautiful!
Thank you.
The Weber is brighter sounding to me but the age of the speaker and number of hours on it makes a difference too.
Did you replace the original saddle on the Epiphone ?
The previous owner did.
I have the Epiphone and you simply can’t beat it for the price.
Thanks for this, and the tabs! Excellent playing!
Thank you.
너무 늦게 알아 버렸지만 가장 좋아하는 뮤지션이 되었다
내 것도.
Both sound good, but for me, the Gibson was far superior in articulation, depth and subtlety.
Agreed. Thanks for the comment.
Vibrolux has a bit of mellow sound. For the Deluxe, it has a bluesy sound. Both are great!
Agreed. Thanks for your comment.
Love the Bossa feel Garry! Great interpretation of a classic...thanks
Thanks, Bob.
Vibrolux sound a bit dull, probably the Bright switch is not on. You did this on purpose?
Here's a rematch with the bright switch on: th-cam.com/video/f_-oInzfVbI/w-d-xo.html
Wow the Weber sounds so much better
thanks for the tab man, so helpful, and no bs mailing list.
So nice!
Thanks very much.
Garry, great transcription for a great part that really sets this tune apart. Well done and well played...❤
Thank you. I appreciate that.
The huge difference you hear is due to speakers.
The speakers are likely the most significant factor, but the 6V6s vs. 6L6s would also have an impact.
kinda like the vibrolux a tad more
Sooo cool a jazz guy only played a tele!!
