The old colonel certainly didn't shy away from making a desperate last stand as a rear-guard unit, deciding to lead a counter-attack, while being vastly outnumbered and overrun! And what a morale boost for his men it was just seing him in combat! Panic went away instantly.

My old father was in a Pz Div since 1939 until 1944, was so hard to get the iron cross, he has EK II and EK I and deutsche kreuz in gold and some others ...

I was thrown out of this film for being too youthful and innocent AFTER I'd seen it twice at age 11. This is three years AFTER I'd seen four actual humans torn into small pieces in a head-on automobile collision.

This is another top ranking WW2 film, great cast and great director. An excellent portrait of the retreating German army from Russia and the interesting relations between the dreamers and the hard core German soldiers who already knew that the war was lost👌.

at last, sergeant Steiner showed the captain, where iron crosses grow and made captain Stranske a dead hero, or at least a dead real soldier

Seen this movie during my high school days in late 77's...the best movie I've seen and the other one is the "Wild Geese".

이 영화에서 제대로 묘사한 부분은 보초를 가느다란 피아노줄로 단숨에 목을 졸라서 죽이는 부분일 겁니다. 영화에서처럼 노끈으로 목졸라 죽이는 것은 현실에서는 절대로 불가능하니까 말입니다.

This film shows and confirms that the generals who shout "patriotism and duty" are the ones who don't give a shit about those like Steiner and his men who do the fighting on their behalf.but a bloody good film though👍

In its time it was the most realistic WWII film , but still nothing like the real horror of the Russian front
