Lucerin Blue/Black Stars Across The Galaxy - Hands Up (Demo)

This was the project that Lucerin Blues singer, Justin, was a part years after LB ended. I contacted Kyle Reid who was their bassist for a while before LB disbanded and got permission to post a few track from the unfinished EP. Hope all LB fans will like this, as it does have a bit of a LB flare while going with a more electronic style.

this accident happened close to where i grew up. used to take the meadowbrook pkwy, where the accident happened, to the beach. messes me up every time i hear this song. i remember my mom clinging to me after watching the news.

Brand new is like weezer. They were just playing music for fun and ended up becoming famous, so they had to keep going. The only difference is Brand new broke up before they were that Big, which I feel like maybe a bit more time and they would've blown up.
Jesse Lacey was already lead guitar and backup vocals for Taking Back Sunday before he left to start brand new, so he was already a career musician, not just for fun. Not sure about Weezer but I know they were on one of the late night shows like Leno or something after the blue album came out which was their first. So I think you’re incorrect about both of those bands lol.
@@nickfehst Huh? Jesse was never lead guitar for TBS, he played bass with them for a hot second in 1999-2000 but got into the infamous fight with John Nolan, the actual guitarist/second vocalist of TBS.

why did the make a song about this incident? I mean so many people including children die in accidents. Have they a special connection?
I believe it happened in his home town, just a few miles from where he lives.
What Larry said, this happened very close to where Brand New live, and it wasn't just an accident, a drunk driver hit them on the wrong side of the parkway, they probably also wanted to raise awareness.
I believe I read somewhere Jesse was really hit hard by the event because it was near where he lived, and because he knows he had friends who drive drunk and it made him feel worse about the whole situation. (Also mentioned in the first line of the album on Sowing Season, "I'm losing all my friends. Losing them to drink and to driving.")
Woa. I'm sorry for the loss of your cousin and have no right to commentate on how you would feel about this song rather than those of us with no direct connection to the tragedy but I honestly don't think anything exploitative in this song. It wasn't released as a promotional single and clearly has no radio play potential. I think this is a very valuable work that brings the tragic and cautionary story to the ears of millions of people every single year. Personally this song, and album, contributes greatly to my resolve to never allow myself or someone else to get behind the wheel of a car inebriated because of how it personalizes the story. I do not ever want to contribute, directly or indirectly, to another's death because of drunk driving. I imagine lots of others feel the same way.
it was actually written to make the devastating effects of drunk driving more clear in society and why drunk driving is something horrible. the accident occurred in long island, where jesse's from, so the accident kind of hit home for him so he wrote this song about the accident to commemorate the death of katie.
