Thanks for the tips. I’ve got a smart water here. Didn’t think of using it for the back flush. I got those clips top through your link. I have belt ones but usually don’t wear a belt. Trying to use bladders less and go to bottles a bit more for taste and not having to clean the bladder for shorter hikes. 👍

Use a jug sling knot to make a paracord strap for your smart water bottle, wrap camo duck tape around your bottle to make it one layer tougher.

I don't have that clip on my backpack tho.

I've been shaving pounds, now ounces from my gear. I carry (2) 1L smarts with the flip tops. One the front inside a Chicken Tramper mesh pouch and one on the side pocket. Bought the flip tops from Garage Grown Gear before I knew that certain bottle already had them. I guess I don't go to the cool supermarkets.

Do the straps stay attached to the quilt or are they separate from the quilt and only attach with the toggles? I ask this because I just received mine and the straps are zip tied to the loop and I can’t figure out if that’s just a packaging thing so they don’t get lost or it stays that way 🤷🏻‍♀️ seems like it’s for packaging but want to check before I cut the zip ties

Thank you for the sped up packing video at 1:48 - it really helps us get a realistic sense of how much space it will (or won't) take. Got this on sale last night for $163.83 and have my fingers crossed it'll keep me warm enough up in The Enchantments in Washington state!

Just used this quilt for the first time last night. Used it with a nemo regular wide pad and worked really well! Got 30% ff at rei which was awesome. Also comes with a large mesh storage bag which itself is worth about 30 bucks. All in all a solid purchase l. Just make sure u dont have a cheap sleeping pad

Loved the review but you didn't show where you store your tent. My current pack, Aura AG 65 has straps on bottom for this. It doesn't look like this does.

I cannot wrap my head (no pun intended) around why polycro is so popular, it only has about 30% puncture resistance of the Tyvec.

One thing here... Titanium is not always the lightest. so don't be fooled by that. Another option is Haluite which is aircraft aluminum and very very durable. And between you, and I, will a Titanium spoon hold soup better than Haluite? You know the answer.. CUP That coffee mug is cardboard, so will fail after a few uses. The best ones are either the GSI Bugaboo or the GSI Haluite mugs. Why do you use a ground tarp for? To protect your tent floor from....punctures. Do a test and compare Polycryo and Tyvek. You'll see the difference in a flash and will stay away from Polycryo. Stick to Tyvek. *IMPORTANT* Tyvec is breathable, this means one side will allow moisture/water to go through and the other side won't. This is why you always see the "TYVEK' spelling facing the outside of the buildings. It's not just for advertisement, but also to indicate which side is what. You need to place the logo facing DOWNWARD on the ground. FROGTOGGS Way too fragile and not that good. You get what you pay for and I strongly recommend staying away from that poncho. Buy a better one because there's nothing worst than to be soaked-wet on the trail. Also, what you need to know is that "waterproof" is not always....waterproof. Indeed, there are several ratings and unless you buy a heavy rubber coat, water will always get through. One of the best explanations is here: www.backcountry.com/sc/what-is-waterproof SIT-PAD Yeah, Thermarest is well known, but pricy and not that resistant. The pad shown in the video is good. But you can also buy go to any dollar store and go to the kids' section to buy a floor pad. You'll get 4 big squares for just a few bucks. Pro-tip: Cut it into a rectangle and you can use it in your backpack as padding for your back. Those floor mats are even lighter and much more durable than the Thermarest or the one from this video.

I suggest marking the Smart Water bottle with volume marks at regular intervals so you know how much you are drinking.

Great review, you have one subscriber plus! These packs, this one, Gorilla, Mariposa...are very tempting. I wonder if you had tested them, I would like to see those videos because you give real feel of the comfort and mam weight. It would be nice if you display during yours videos figures in metric system too.

Instead of buying a rain kilt, slice the bottom edge of a regular drawstring-style 13-gallon kitchen trash bag. Cost? Negligible.

I don't use smart water bottles. They will freeze and cannot take boiling hot water. Too big to put into a boot or shoe also. A 16 oz., nalgene is perfect. Will take all the above and it into a boot shoe to dry it out (insert with boiling water inside the bottle.). The rest of my water I carry in bladders. Adios!

Unfortunately Nalgene bottles can break because I was walking down the stairs at my apartment and it slipped out of my hand and it hit the pavement on the corner from probably about 5 feet up and water started leaking out of the crack so I don’t think they’re invincible. I had the one that’s more like a clear color so maybe some of them were built differently but the one I had definitely did not survive a fall onto a hard surface

REI has a great return policy compared to cottage companies. Just returned the Uberlite sleeping pad due to it being uncomfortable for me. It was easy as just walking into the store. This Magma quilt on on sale right now. 05/01/22 for $230. Thinking about it, last day on sale 🤔

4 out of 5 good tips. Under no circumstances is a a plastic cup a replacement for a titanium cup. Most folks I know that carry one use if for their sole piece of cookware and dinnerware, and occasionally a shovel.

Also - The toothpaste dots are fun to make, but they work a LOT better in a place like the dry environment of the west. I have heard from folks from humid places, and they didn't have the same results.

Great video. I like these because I'm a cheap bastard myself. I purchased one of those blue super light foam pads about 40 years ago. It was longer that I needed so I cut off about a foot and to also save weight. I then cut this piece into a larger piece for sitting on and a smaller piece to put my stove on so it won't absorb the cold ground or snow. These work perfectly. The foam pad has gotten beat up over time but still is in decent shape for being 40 years old. I even used it recently. It is amazing how over time the weight of gear has dropped. Back in the '70s my pack base weight would be around 28lbs if I carried a tent. Today it is usually around 11lbs even with a tent. Some of my old friends are still stuck in '70's mode and are shocked at how light my setup is. I've slowly started converting them. I also usually use a light nylon poncho for rain gear but sometimes use the Frog Togg rain suit. Rarely use the rain pants. Thanks for the video!

I uses the polypro foot print and found if you cut the size with a hot knife it has a lot less chance of tearing on the edges. The is two thicknesses of cryo, .75ml and 1.5ml Happy trails..

Thaks for the review just bought a G4, first frameless pack(size large). Took it on an over night this week and am concerned i may have needed a size medium, i am in the high end on the measurements for the med and low end of the large. Perhaps you may know the answer to this, are the 3 sizes determined by shortening or lengthening of the pack itself or is it the straps and hip belt that are adjusted? It my be just my first experience with a frameless pack.I really want to love it but seemed to have had trouble dialing it in. It wasn't uncomfortable at 22lb

I'm debating hard between this and the Gossemer Gear Mariposa. I like that the Mariposa comes with a sit pad and it's 5 liters bigger, but the price and customizability of the flash is nice.

I find it annoying that a lot of companies do not provide two gear loops. I just bought the Flash 45L and overall it looks like a very promising solid backpack. It just…….doesn’t have an extra gear loop. The only back within this range that does 2 is The Gregory Miwok 42. I saw that some latch points can be removed. Do you think it be possible to add another loop at the bottom?

Thanks for sharing your experience with your Gerber. 420 HC steel is famous for its consistency and high purity compared to Asian steels. My favourite Gerber is the Sharkbelly. It is as light like an LST but with a longer blade.

How would you recommend packing this with a bv500/2 person tent? Still trying to find the sweet spot when it comes to that.

I hiked the Colorado Trail with this pack and found the lack of hip belt pockets not a problem. The side entry plus deep well into the side pocket allowed me to place snacks in there without them falling out and me stopping to access them. I also attached a should water bottle holder.
