Schmoke's Shop
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 14 ต.ค. 2011
Schmoke's Shop is a 40x40 play space within a 40x60 steel building home I built as the ultimate bachelor pad, and the property it sits upon. Current projects include a 1965 Volkswagen Beetle, A 1982 Coachmen Leprechaun RV, and a 1971 Yamaha DS-7, but anything is game. Reviving dusty old schtuff makes me happy. Will It Run? Will It Drive? We've Got Rust! Someone else can do a restoration, I ain't got time for all that. Peace and Love, Schmoke...

I have several sturdy workbenches that accumulate all the parts from projects that I haven't finished. Sometimes I clear it away and start a new project that I don't finish. Rarely I finish a project, and then put all the unfinished junk back on the work bench.
I made a short that may help 😉th-cam.com/users/shortswUj8fwc4DdU?si=SZTQW3siDTnQHrui
I HIGHLY suggest anyone who reads this to cue the video to 18:17 and turn the speed down to 0.25 😎

I would soak up more DS7 vids like a sponge, but for my own selfish reasons (have one I'm fixing my self).
Right on! I will be keeping it in the content loop for sure, thanks for watching!
I'm a fan of using left-hand/reverse drill bits. Most of the time don't even have to use the extractor, as the broken bolt will back itself out once about 1/2-2/3rds drilled. Another good video!
Good tip! I don't have a reverse drill bit yet, but it is on the list! Thanks for watching!
nice video
Thanks!
Great save on the bolt holes. It was at least two beers worth of entertainment. YT@rustydubbs
Excellent, glad I could help 😙💨
I have 1 Reverse Drill Bit, and it's been a Godsend. Once it catches on a stuck bolt 9 times out of 10 it turns it right out. www.google.com/search?q=Reverse+Drill+Bits&oq=Reverse+Drill+Bits&aqs=chrome..69i57j0i131i433i512l2j0i433i512j0i512j0i433i512j0i131i433i512j0i433i512l3.6547j0j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8

Happy New Year, Schmoke! I wonder if a power drill or impact put on that Manco RideMaster crank nut would make starting easier than winding the rope. Enjoying the vids!
Thanks! There was supposed to be a hand crank option, but I have not found any pictures. May have to come up with something like that, but I'll bet if I get it running right it will start easier. Thanks for watching Happy New Year!
I loved watching your videos, but they seem to be underperforming in search results. 😕 I can help with that by tweaking some SEO settings. Reach out if you'd like my help!
Thanks for the feedback... 😙💨
I had the same exact thing just happen on our bug! I only tacked in the new a pillar replacement piece from Wolfsburg West. Had to cut out 1/4" section below the hinge.
Yes very frustrating, I don't know if you saw the other video where I was able to get everything in place but it certainly wasn't a plug and play deal lol...
@SchmokesShop I'm now having trouble getting the door gap figured out. Big gap at the top, zero clearance at the bottom. If I lower the door, the bottom of the door hits.
I'd say take lots of measurements. If the other side is still solid measure from that, if not hopefully you can find another bug and get things "squared away". Good Luck!

Such an odd word, but Schmoke's Shouse sort of rolls off the tongue 😙💨
BTW use 18gauge and push your weld from the 18 to the car it helps.
Thanks for the tip! I'm not sure what the thickness of the patch panel was, but the biggest issues with holes was poor fitment (gaps). I will say the copper paddle really helped though, if you haven't played with one...
As frustrating as this is for you, your last vid and this one about the door pillar have been very informative for folks needing to do this repair in the future. Thanks for taking the time to make the videos and sharing your journey!
THIS (and of course my desire to grow a successful TH-cam channel) is what has kept me going through the process. The experience will help me move forward with my plans, and help others along the way. TH-cam has helped me learn so much, and I am excited to be part of that process for others. That reminds me, I need a disclaimer in the intro lol. THANKS for being part of the channel!
You absolutely should fabricate a piece of sheet metal. Imagine the clicks!
Believe me, there will be plenty of that to come; I am in the process of learning the process 😉
I would 100% watch a bike teardown/buildup, and i suspect youtube would too. You said it yourself about the last one failing killing views. If it were me, (it's not) i would number them or something so it builds to a payoff for the audience. Regardless, this is a FANTASTIC channel, and i learn from it daily.
I can appreciate you not intentionally dragging a parts company because of your morals, BUT the community might benefit from knowing about sub standard parts
I intentionally left the part label in place for that information. We shall see what the comments section brings beyond that... I appreciate your appreciation, THANKS for being part of the channel!
@@SchmokesShopi saw the label but i didn't make the connection somehow. Don't drink and watch youtube, kids.
Tap. Tack. Cuss. Its part of it. Lol
Have you had any issues with the water build-up on metal items due to the propane?
I have not, possibly because I only run the heater for short periods of time to "take off the chill". Being in Florida, the wide range of temperature fluctuation can cause the building itself to "sweat" some in the winter, but this is completely independent of the heater. Thanks for watching!
For some reason TH-cam failed to make the video public. I did not notice until an hour later, but hopefully resolved the issue...
Buy the best available parts. Take a long look at them before you install. Invest in POR 15 for the car.
Seller has a good reputation from my research and I kind of assumed the stamped part that has to be in a certain place to work would be right, or they wouldn't be selling it. I am hoping to be back in communication Monday and find a resolution and I am humbly reminded what assumption does. Thanks for being part of the channel!
Look for original metal..nothing fits like original
I will definitely be keeping the parts car idea on the radar, just gotta fill my coin jar a few more times ;-) Thanks For Watching!
That's a pretty sweet multiprocess.
Especially for the price I got it. Thanks for watching!
Love how you use your tool(s).
This is what I built the shop for, it should evolve even more over time...
I feel your frustration, take brake and move forward. The video was still informative and describes all the unforeseen things we face when trying to keep old cars alive.
The documentation of the struggle being real...is real.
Thank you, I am working on dialing in the format, this was an unforeseen situation for sure; all part of the process big picture...

I know hundreds of your subscribers have probably already asked this, but what is the mentos container for, and can we get a video for it? Knucklehead wannabe mechanics like me have no clue what that means. Something to do with the freshness of spearmint...
It's a homemade remote starter switch 😉. Basically a momentary on button in a Mentos container (to make it fit in one's hand), that connects battery power to the ignition terminal of the starter solenoid when the button is pressed. It allows one to activate the starter from under the hood...
