My Mom was from Lake Lure. My Grandparents lived and operated The Bottomless Pools in Lake Lure for Many Years. I spent most of my childhood there, still can't wrap my Brain around the chaos that went down there.

BUT I PRAY HARD FOR THESE PEOPLE WHOSE LIFE HAS BEEN TURNED UPSIDE DOWN I CANNOT EVEN IMAGINE THEIR PAIN. MY HEART BREAKS FOR THESE PEOPLE. I USE TO GO TO CHIMNEY ROCK EVERY YEAR, IN THE SUMMER AND THEN FALL. I WOULD GO IN EVERY SHOP. I DID CRAFTS SO I LOVED LOOKING AT ALL THE CRAFTS.I SPENT THE NIGHT IN THE LITTLE COTTAGES ON THE RIVER. I HAVE WONDERFUL MEMORIES THERE. GOD BLESS YOU ALL.

The first picture in this video is cabin thats been in my family for over 100 years. We had to move it up the hill when Hwy 9 was built back in the 50’s. Despite multiple landslides around the cabin its still standing by the grace of god. The landscape there will be scarred forever.

Good work on the video! I once lived in a flood plain and moved to where we don't have to worry about quickly rising water. Why the city/county planners allowed this was questionable and the outcome was predictable. Tragic.

Truly incredible images. If it happened once it can happen again rebuilding there makes no sense. It's better to start over somewhere else.

How do you rebuild when the land you built on is actually gone? I don't usually get emotional but this is heartrending.

Since face detection sees multiple faces to choose from..can 2 different faces be replaced at same time with 2 reference faces? Swap face in right with ref face 1 and face on left with ref face 2. OR would you have to do one, then render, then run process again on other face?

Nearly all the photos of destruction have one thing in common: a bridge in the frame. Bridges are chokepoints and become nothing more than plugged culverts.

Fantastic job. Definitely the most representative video I have seen of the sad loss and destruction here. Have you given any thought to using other videos of Marks in the same fashion. Living in Swannanoa, I would like to see that area depicted in the same manner. Thanks again for putting that together

thank you, shed alot of tears praying for the area effected. good small portion of what happened (no one could capture it all) seems like it will take years to fully recover, especially the road system and then utilities in the remote areas.

its odd just how the pictures are almost in identical places when they were taken before and after. anyone else find that weird ? what most people dont realize is that the buildings that were not destroyed that you see in the pictures, were actually pretty much destroyed inside by mud and water, which isnt show here.

How can this town come back from this?

This is about 20 minutes from my house and I didn’t have as much as a tree down on my property. It is amazing the destructive power water has. I am 74 years old and from my parents down to my grandsons we have spent a lot of time here enjoying the views, shopping, eating at the restaurants and and four generations camping and now it’s all gone. The flowering bridge was especially a favorite place to me because it was so beautiful and peaceful when I was going through a very trying time in my life. It is so very sad and heartbreaking.

Best before and after video yet. My friend from Arizona drove through Chimney Rock a week before Helene hit and asked for these types of videos. Without the before and after I wouldn't have recognized the places I drive through every month or so. I was lucky I only lost a little bridge across what is usually an ankle deep creek that rose 7 to 8 feet.

Thankyoufor the comparison. I have watched some where the cameraman is clearly heartbroken by what they are recording, but without context of what was there before, you dont get the true scale of the disaster. Prayers for all from Canada.

It's insane how this disaster altered the landscape. The locals in some cases are disoriented because of it.

If we didnt print money for an dictator in Ukraine, we would not have to go further into debt or further weaken the dollar by printing to fix all this.
