I am an oil painter and you will find time lapse videos on this channel of my dog art and cat art. I do quite a few cat paintings and dog paintings a month as commissions and so I thought videoing the process might be fun. As well as time lapse videos of my animal oil paintings, there are also time lapse videos of my digital animal art. I try to make my digital dog and cat art as painterly as I can. I am still new to digital painting so I am still very much learning and experimenting with it myself. Finally I hope you also enjoy the time lapse videos of my more light hearted whimsical dog and cat artwork that I do in Procreate and Photoshop, as well as my naive artwork inspired by UK cities.

Wonderful video! ❤ I’m surprised that even you can find painting tricky sometimes but as a beginner artist, it makes me feel better about my own struggles haha. Looking forwards to the next Procreate video, maybe an easy cat tutorial? 👀
Yes, I have lots of challenging paintings where I feel I'm never going to get the likeness. 😀 The next Procreate video will be a dog - my own in fact! I hope you enjoy watching it.

Just found your channel and I’m so happy I did! I’ve already watched several videos and they have been incredibly helpful. Thank you so much for making them ❤ you are very talented and a good teacher!
thank you. hope they help 😀
Can the varnish be applied 24 hours after the oiling out if you do it the way you describe? Or is it better to take one or two days of reserve? So the whole process takes 48 hours between start of oiling out and packing the painting? Did you ever try mixing the oiling out medium with Liquin and what are your experiences? My painting was done using Liquid. I am in a time rush at this moment myself so this is very useful information.
I use linseed oil because I am more likely to use that as a medium in the painting process. You can varnish with Gamvar as soon as the oiling out is dry. I do not use Linquin in my process so cannot comment but I do know artists who do and have used this medium to oil out their paintings. I do not know if they mixed it with any other medium though. I hope this helps.
Thanks for your answer. I have to ship my work in 6 days. In that cause would I still have time to do it with linseed oil or netter just ship without oiling out? I'm afraid with the linseed oil it couldn't be dry in time but also afraid to add liquin to that for the top layer... @@sarahhallidayart
@@GerdaVanDamme I use 1 part linseed oil and 1 part gamsol and put it under a radiator. If you use too much linseed oil in this consistency it won't be dry. It needs to be 1:1. I find this dries in a couple of days. Then I varnish with Gamvar which is dry in 24 hours. Do you have the opportunity to try this out first on a painting that is not time critical? If you have 6 days you have time to try it out first on a different painting perhaps?
Hello ma'am, can you give the little demo of tera rosa color.
It’s really nice to see a painting being “fixed” instead of the final product and wondering how on earth that process happened!
It was a tricky one 😀
Question. Why did you only give greenery to the trees on the far right? I did enjoyably replicate this painting but wondered if I could bring a little greenery to the other trees. Thank you.
Very well made and helpful! Thank you!
thank you
Very useful video, thanks for this information. Note: Be careful not to mix verdigris green with coffee shades because it changes quickly.
I love the Musée d’Orsay too!
its a great place to see artwork
thank you for the video! The greens can be really tricky

❤❤❤
thank you 😀
Maravilloso ! ❤
Beautiful, but you can always play with the black color by giving it the desired values, the black color is not as "dangerous" as it is thought, in some parts of the picture where it is needed it should not be avoided.
Really useful, thanks 😊

Always very useful tips you give us!! Beautiful painting as always 😍
😁👍
Agreed.
@@smoath thank you
Excellent video as it gives important ideas on how to create an interesting painting using Procreate. However, I was a little confused on your use of multiple layers. For example, when you wanted to lighten an area you created a new layer, and I presumed painted in a lighter shade (versus erasing darker areas from earlier layers). Is this correct? I also assume that the misty grainy effect was added to a layer above the white background layer. Being a beginner I need explicit instructions on using multiple layers and guidance as to when to paint versus when to erase. In general I tend to use only a few layers and do most of my work on a single layer. However, I do use additional layers when doing details that I want to view before adding them to the primary layer. Comments?
Ok bear with me as I have dyslexia, and find this difficult to follow so will try and answer the best I can. There are 2 rules I stick to. Either do your artwork on one layer - this is very simple and you will get a painterly effect. Or if you are concerned about loosing work you have done, every time you have done a section and are happy with what you have done, start a new layer. This second approach was the one I used when first starting until I got more confident with how to handle the brushes. Now I am more likely to do it on one layer. I hope this helps.
@@sarahhallidayart Thanks for the helpful information.

Thank you for this video! Do you frame the art yourself and take the pictures or do you put them in a Mockup?
I put them in a mock up - It's a lot easier and cheaper! 😄
@@sarahhallidayart thanks! Did you use a specific website to make them ?
@@downesart Shutterstock, then Adobe Illustrator. But you might be able to find something on Canva which is free.
Love scapes! Please more!
que buen truco lo de la hoja de papel
The only problem I have with no medium or thinner is it becomes a chore to cover even a small canvas, but I am using winsor and newton. I'm curious if your brand are naturally more oily?
I use some W&N colours, some Rembrandt (they are more fluid than W&N) and Gamblin (about the same as W&N). Yes, it is a chore to cover larger areas but using no medium makes wet on wet painting much easier because you have more control with stiffer paint.😀
@@sarahhallidayart Thanks a lot, i will have to try, it seems like it may use more paint. What is your favourite type of brush for this application (no medium paint over larger areas)?
@@callmedeno yes, you will use a lot of paint. I would recommend not using any medium in any area you intend to paint wet into wet. Use a large stiffer workhorse type of brush for larger areas, like filbert, flat brush etc. I hope this helps.
@@sarahhallidayart thanks for the tips!

@@sarahhallidayart Thank you very much ❤
Thank you ma'am.
Thank you for such a valuable lesson! And it's so good that in this video you lowered a little bit the high pitched notes in the voice. Thank you!!!
I’m intrigued by the process and will give it a try. I did look up Windsor and Newton Primer, and it states it can be used for both traditional oil and water mixable oil (bet you’ll get that question!). Thanks for making the video!
give it a try. Be careful with the primer though and use it in well ventilated areas. Generally I will do the priming outside. 👍
Is it wrong that I didn't want to use RSG because of the poor little bunnies, but when I hear it's a by-product of the meat market I think "oh, that's okay then"? 😅 Anyway, interesting to know, and the process looks like simplicity itself. I'm starting to dabble into oil paints, but it's hard to find and trust synthetic sizes when the up-to-the-minute advice is to avoid GAC and similar media, slap on several layers of acrylic gesso, and cross your fingers...
yes, there's pros and cons with every sealant 😀
this way I will try it that RSG! I always see it being cooked in a pan and I don't like that.. But the way you do it is much easier! Do you put the RSG on both sides of the wood? Thanks again for sharing!!
I did when I first started doing it, but now I just put it on the side I am going to prime. You can put it on both sides though if you want 😀
I agree with you, though I am not a painter. I have taken lessons to learn and have been put off by every single one. I wanted to know all the basics, what brushes to use, what brush and technique to use to make the different strokes, how to mix paint, etc., then I wanted to pick the subject to paint that moved me. Looking at a bowl of fruit or other objects that did not move me or be directed to paint with colors I don't like numbed my creativity. The difference for me of not having/having an emotional connection was like the difference between looking into a closet and not wanting to breathe in or the deep breath you can't help but take when you are on the beach facing the ocean with the wind in your hair.
I always encourage my students to choose what they want to paint, being inspired by your subject matter will always make for a better painting. (I'm not really a bowl of fruit kind of person either 😁)
The terrior is adorable
Yes she's in a super cute pose too. Made it a joy to paint.
lovely! painting and lesson!
