VINTAGE BLANKET INTO SHACKET || Upcycling Project In this video I am upcycling a vintage wool blanket into an oversized shirt jacket. Wow! Very Nice. Got a couple of pro tips for you-- working with oilskin or other don't pin fabrics-- get wonder clips. They work excellently for "pining" a seam line. For pocket placement-- blue painter's tape is your friend. I probably would have lined the patch pockets to pull the seam allowance under and force it's shape but that's me being a tad lazy.
Great video and a great coat! I'm about to sew the Foreman jacket from M&M and this may be a stupid newbie question - but can't I baste within the seam allowance? No rain will soak through those holes as they'll all be inside, right?
Sweet dress and I like the way you crack on and make up your own designs. I think your dress is really pretty. My only comment would be that I’d either pattern match the button placket, or make it very obvious that I wasn’t pattern matching.
Loved the video. Very instructive. It must be weird not being able to pin or baste. I’ve got this pattern - I’ve never lined anything but I want to make it in pale grey jumbo cord, and I’ve just remembered I’ve got some heavy brushed cotton from Fabworks which would look great as a lining. I’m going to make a short, jacket version. I love yours, although oilskin creeps me out slightly. It’s a texture thing…
woah this is gorgeous in green!!
Good work!
Phew, I lost the last page of my pattern, you've saved my dungarees.
Oh that’s lucky! Glad to hear it 😁
So cute ❤
I’m putting off making merchant mills parka, any thoughts you’d make one to sew along to? X❤
I really like the black side out best. Very good !
I like the fabric ❤. Well done
please press your hems as you go for a much better finish
Hi thank you for this. Just found your channel and I like your video style.I think your coat looks great. I have just bought the pattern and am intending to make in wool twill. I was interested in what you said about the sizing. I have never done a Merchant and Mills pattern before and according to the size chart I am a size 14. (This is also roughly the Ready to Wear size I normally wear). Would you have any advice for me about this? It’s just that (even in a toile) it’s an awful lot of fabric to cut out if it is going to swamp me!😂 I would be most grateful for your comments. ❤
Sorry for the late reply! The merchant and mills patterns are normally true to size so I wouldn’t size up if I were you. You can always check your measurements against the size chart. Good luck with your coat!
hello, i have a questioon... for the under the bump jeans, does it have to be lower waist pants already to start with? or high waist jean is alright? thank you!
I used jeans that had a high waisted fit before pregnancy then because of the bump they naturally sat lower after. Hope that helps!
have you tryd a vintage button wholer for the button wholes
Love your jacket i would like to make one if not to complicated for me, thankyou for sharing x
If you are not using directional fabric, the top seam is not necessary-is that correct?
Yes that’s correct!
@@agnesstudio3807 I have made and taped my pattern together-and oddly, it fits both appliances nearly equally. One is a food processor, the other a stand mixer. The food processor has tall and unusual shapes but the measurements were nearly the same. So I will be making two at once and will use fusible fleece for the inside for stiffness and then will have enough fabric to match each other. I am very excited about finding your pattern!
this video is too quick for me, I am new to swing
Thanks for keeping the project simple. Other channels want to add a bunch of fancy quilting, appliques, binding etc. I was looking for just a simple rounded cover for several kitchen appliances. Good job! I made a rectangle sewing machine cover years ago which had a sagging pocket too. I couldn't create two pockets as needed a single large pocket to hold an attachment. Instead, i added a 1/4 inch strip elastic to the inside edge of the pocket. Looks cute and keeps everything in place!
I watched this video over a dozen times, getting list on the over the bump. You went so fast, i di not understand how you went from a double kater to a waist band. 😢
I’m really sorry but I found your video confusing and not at all helpful…. Too difficult to see what you were doing and you need to slow down stage and show at every stage or it’s not a tutorial -it’s just watching you sewing 😢
Love this
This was so helpful to my sewing practice. Thank you for sharing ❤
I am making this out of M&M dry oilskin so I liked seeing your video with the green oilskin, which is even tougher to work with at this scale. I am still a little confused about how to fix the sleeve lining to the armhole area. I'll rewatch and stare at the pattern diagram again. Love your fabric lining, too. Envy your heavy duty machine!
My advice to any beginner in sewing would be to purchase a Vogue Sewing book. It has everything you need to know about sewing. I wouldn’t be without mine.
Do you have a link?
Thanks for posting - breaking down all the details! It looks great!
Lovely little vest. Great shaping front and back. You've whet my appetite to make one , it looks so nice. The dark side would look stunning over a plain black dress with long sleeves.😊
I wish u had explained it a bit slower and showed more. I’m not an experienced sewer.
What type of fabric is your pretty lining?
It’s just the April check cotton from Merchant and Mills
Why does it say ‘stretch’ on the crotch pattern?
Your gilet is perfect! I love the curved hem at the back. Thanks for sharing your tips, I am about to sew one for myself and your video is the best that I've watched so far for this particular garment
Thank you!! I found the bit on sewing the back straps particularly helpful.
Hi, I thought I would never attempt that but bought some gorgeous reduced trousers because of a broken zip. I unpicked it, took photos of the stages! Got totally lost in putting it back together again but FINALLY did a great job! I think I have a spatial/concept issues, I never know how I actually do something but I do! Xx
It's SO CUTE!! great job and thank you
Love it🤍 where can we find the pattern?
It was self drafted but you could trace from an existing top or shirt!
So so cute! The fabric suits the pattern so well & has a cool 70s look
Thanks!
Do you have the measurements for the pattern pieces?
Thanks very usefull ! I’m not pregnant a 58 but unfortunately , I have to take a lot of cortisone medications and I gained so much weight that any of my jeans or pants are no longer wearable being too tight at the belly exactly as if I were expecting 😊! I thought your video could help me modify my jeans ,and it sure does 👌 Thank you
Wow, that’s gorgeous and even though you said one of their easy construction patterns it is a bit of an epic. I am just getting over muscular (Neck and lower back) problems that I stupidly, too late, realised was from sewing for too long, in hours, put it down and walk away for a bit! I do like their patterns but sometimes the hand sketched images throw me a bit🤔 I have a real issue in attaching and pulling through linings..so avoid it, wish you were around the corner! Never sewn with oilskin but the grass green colour looks fab. Well done you. Just found your site first time. Thanks.
Thanks! Definitely agree, I found the construction simple but the hardest part was working with that much fabric around the machine, I found it tough on my shoulders too. What fabric did you use?
@@agnesstudio3807 it was a kind of vintage damask tablecloth..I like to upcycle!
Always iron the cloth and remove creases before laying the pattern
How much fabric do I have to buy for it?
I brought a metre and had enough left over to make a bag!
I'm working on a quilted vest this weekend, this video is super helpful!
Is there any printable pattern for this typical vest i want the same and i couldn’t understand ur crafting on the basic pattern 😢
I would check merchant and mills or have a look on Pinterest to see if you can find a downloadable pattern
Really helpful tutorial, am definitely going to try this!
Awesome!!!!
So nice! Do you have an sewing pattern?:)
No sorry I don’t have patterns for it yet!
Thanks for this video! Do you have any interest in making the Haremere coat from the MM Workbook?
Oh I haven’t seen this one! I’ll look into it, thanks
Beautiful video. Thanks!
Very nice!
Beautiful ive just brought a new stand mixer ill be following you to make a cover for mine plus a cover for my newblender.
