This channel is to share the wonderful things going on at Pecan Lane farm in Pitt County NC. Our first Pecan trees were planted January 1, 2001 and are now producing record crops. We also graft trees and crack and shell for the public. We hope to share all things pecan and otherwise.

Irrigated vs non irrigated pecan tree growth

In this video I show an example of what irrigation does for tree growth. I think these trees were planted 1.5-2 yrs ago. Trees without irrigation are very stunted, though the tops were not pruned back. If the trees survive and the roots reach the irrigation zone they should thrive but for now they are limited. Irrigated tree is perhaps 2x the caliper at breast height.

I’m probably approaching 20 sq down
I live in NC, but visiting family in PA and we just finished harvesting the last of the chestnuts here. My Dad planted them 70 yrs ago from a tree on his grandparents farm. Can't wait to take some home to plant.
Just found your channel enjoying the videos. I love pecans really considering planting a few acres myself please keep the videos coming. Can you possibly make one explaining the equipment you use like the savage you went through?

It is later than the previous two years for me. I know someone that shuts down sooner. Others keep going.
I used to love pecans but they started making my joints hurt and found they are really high in omega 6 causing inflammation.
So sorry for your losses but I absolutely applaud your honesty and business ethic. You are a true American sir and should be proud. Best of luck to you in the coming seasons. May you prosper

We have the same cracker with the same piston trouble. I found turning up the oiler (the one on the left) to about a drop per second or second and half greatly reduced the piston sticking.
Thanks for this, w ill turn the flow up. I recall the guidebook said one drip every 15 seconds.

Thanks for sharing this video. Sheller looks good. For the most part, people do t understand the work that goes into growing pecans and getting them to the finished halves.
Cracker looks great. However, the sheller seems to be leaving a lot. I was under the impression sheller should get 90% out. Is that not the case? Thanks.
Variety dependent. Most vids only show first shelling, I tighten things up for a 2nd and they look better

Quite a variety. Have you ever had the Schleigh variety? I had a man bring me 2 5gallon buckets of them a couple of years ago. I ran them through my cracker/sheller and they came out cleaner than any other pecan and they also had the best smell and taste of any pecan in our area.
