I have studied this and I have learned that the divorce and remarriage scriptures mean that if you divorce for the purpose to marry someone else, that is what's considered adultery. For example, if you are married and then someone else more attractive comes along and you think you married the wrong person so you divorce so that you can marry the new person, that is what's considered adultery. It's usurping the first wives' or husbands' position with a replacement. It's usually a result of lust or covetousness. If you are in a marriage and it doesn't work out due to abuse or being cheated on, etc. and both parties agree to end the marriage, the divorce is not caused by a desire to marry someone else but because you may have married the devil by mistake or something and then remarry after a long time to someone new who did not cause the marriage's demise, is this still considered adultery?

The exception clause in Matthew was addressed to Jewish audience. We interpret the unclear scrptures in light of the clear ones! Some translations say adultery rather than the original interpretation of fornication. Sadly many Pastors are remarried unbiblically so won't be teaching the true biblical stance. I believe what you are teaching but I have one question. Why did David have many wives and God allowed it. But when he did what he did with Beersheba why didn’t David leave her he married her after all he did. He was an adulter a murderer. I do not mean to be insensitive, but we need pastors to be honest. To not lead them is dangerous! I mean seriously "I can't tell you what to do because I have an intact and blessed family" ?! Divorce takes a toll on your life but so does remaining with a cruel person. My Christian husband was a jerk to me many times and admitted it. Even mistreating me as a newlywed. No remorse for 13 years.

i recently found that 2 of the elders at my church are divorced and remarried...really bothers me and im praying for the Lord to show me what to do. i actually run the security program at the church and feel like i am serving a purpose there but i dont approve of them condoning what the bible calls adultery. i have been standing for my marriage for over 3 years and find it offensive that people treat marriage so lightly.
