@@ethanthevictorianrailfan7030 Yeah, I'll probably make a video on it in the future with it wired up, although before then I'd rather mount it on a pole of some kind - Only caveat with that is that the traffic light weighs nearly 21.5 kgs without visors, so I need something that can support that weight 🤣 Just curious, how much does you Bob Panich weigh? From what I saw the transformers inside weren't as big compared to the ones in my Aldridge, but generally it seems traffic lights are way heavier than they look XD

Yeah awesome that'd be cool to see. I modified my PVC pole prior to installing the traffic light and then furthermore wiring it up. I decided this because if i wired it up, THEN put it up, i would have much less variation in space for movement as the wire length would restrict where i can put the light. Thankfully, the Braums light is probably 8-10kg, I didnt weigh it before putting it up, i really should have hahaha Yeah no worries, my BP light is definitely way too heavy for my current pole setup, not only because the weight would be offset, but also it would probably snap the PVC. I too would like to set it up maybe even outside i just havent got a pole for it. In saying this, guesstimate would probably be about 25, maybe even 30kg. I'll weigh it tonight when i get home and let you know. Interesting to hear the Aldridge ones have transformers - are they incandescent? And yes i would definitely agree, they are a LOT heavier than they look. Explains why the cantilever ones move around in the wind, despite being on solid metal poles. Wind is a crazy thing! @@ethanthevictorianrailfan7030 Yep the lights are incandescent, so they have individual transformers for each aspect - from what I saw, your Bob Panich also has a transformer for each light too Also just FYI, your discord server invite link isn’t working 🙂

Interesting information! I remember seeing this crossing on Streetview with the gateless signals but no clips that i've seen. I too wonder if it got LED's prior to being upgraded with gates however knowing that between 2008 & 2011 is only ~3 years, they probably wouldnt have bothered. But, V/Line can be pretty surprising sometimes, so theres a chance.

@ethanthevictorianrailfan7030 actually, now that I think about, I think the exact date that the signals were replaced was August/September 2011, as I passed that crossing on the train on August 24th, 2011, and it still had the old signals. The next time I saw the crossing, about 3 weeks later, it had the new gated signals. It's still a blur about the crossing having LED lights before the signals were replaced, but either this crossing or Andrew Fairley Avenue in Shepparton (which was replaced by gated signals in October 2010) would've been the last crossing on the Tocumwal line with incandescent lights

@@pengo34789 Thank you! Yes Surrey Hills was part of a few metro crossing trials with Siemens/Safetran Type 3's, trials to see weather they could be added to the list of bells Metro can use (for clarification) And yes, they're loud as shit haha

Interesting info about the trial of the ST3s, now I’m wondering if they’ve been cleared for use on Metro crossings or not, since I haven’t seen any new ones so far

@@pengo34789 Yeah no worries man. Theres been a few now, i think the reason Metro still uses GS3's is because they're much much quieter. Mont albert road for instance had ST3's for about a week, until noise complaints from local residents got them replaced with GS3's until removal. Mooroolbark (manchester rd) on the Lilydale line had an ST3 on its temporary upgraded gated mast under the bridge while it was in construction, and thats it i think. Surrey Hills was the last to have them and i believe they're certified for instalment now they just use GS3's as said, because they're quieter. I could be wrong though.

So many reasons why the first bit would be impossible and so many reasons not to do the second... it comes down to weather conditions mostly.... maybe read the report before commenting.
