From getting out after 20 years in prison, I’ve came along way
Man this oceancorp underwater welding training ad keeps popping up with that bald guy. I heard they make alot of money
9:13 lol
Native myself outta 146 in tx I’ve been looking to possibly move out that way do you know if they take Jman transfers?
I honestly don’t know how it works but I’m sure you could organize in, probably have to call the hall to find out, I do know we carry more licenses then most locals so you might have to take couple state license tests
Love the vids trying to get my self in the local hall now! Going to welding school to hopefully give me an up on others when its interview time.
Welding school helps, also get familiar with pipe schedules/sizes, they like to ask about that in interviews and if you can talk the talk it looks good💪🏽
I hung out with punks and bad people I was like hell nah I ain’t doing that dumb shit.I just hung out for the girls honestly, nothing else. Now I just stay to myself just me and my girl living a happy life with our house and pool. You don’t have friends these days, remember that.
I’m 42 trying to join the union to become a pipe fitter. Loved the video inspiring. I need change in my life and ready to work for it.
@@kellenking5108 never to late to get in, I’m 43 and a 3rd year apprentice, best decision I ever made💪🏽
If you rub shoulders with an idiot .......if your in a room with 9 idiots , your the Tenth
Elder with the walker first place
Is this today????
No that was grand entry yesterday, but the wacipi is running all weekend
You will learn skills and you can go into business yourself if you want. HVAC technician here, I work with chillers and cooling towers.
RESPECT KING. Much love, Little Rock checkin in
I definitely appreciate the support brotha, I wanna see everyone win💪🏽
How do i apply for a aprrendice in pipefitter
Idk where your from but your first step would be to see what local is near you, try googling local pipefitters or steamfitters union near me, when you find out what local is near you, find their websight and find out when they take applications, I’m Minneapolis local 539, we only take applications in January, took me a few try’s to get in but it is worth the effort
I am a 2nd year status entry, my 1st year with a union. The union had some really good 7x12s jobs in the past. I know now to volunteer for those jobs because most don't want to go work them. The money is my end goal 🎉.
If you always willing to work that overtime, when it comes up you will be the first to get it, in the trades that overtime is worth chasing 💪🏽
I’ve fucked my life up by making bad decisions. Is it possible if I start now at 30? I need something that will give me purpose so I can stay away from all the destructive tendencies.
Bro I fucked up my life for most of it, I did over 20 years in prison, got out at 38 years old and started from scratch, took me a couple years to get in the Union but I had a plan and just worked every day to making sure anything I did was something that moved me closer, it’s never too late to start over, never even an option to give up, you got this it’s just your job to take the step
@@stirlingheaton8205 Damn 20 years in the slammer is crazy. I’ve been in trouble a lot but nothing like that thank god. Even though I’ve had times I’ve wanted to crash out. I have actually done rebar in the past and I’m still with union technically. Guess I could ask and see if they can get me in as an apprentice. Either this or college, keep doing your thing. You are guiding and inspiring the rest of us. Thank you
💯
Well Said. Glad you found the trade specially union great benefits. I salute you .. I've been in electrical union for over 30 years.
Appreciate it sparky💪🏽 definitely found my calling
As a native I'm looking in to this
I definitely recommend it bro, we have a few natives on my crew, then again we working on a casino job rn so they were looking for natives, but the two brothas that got me into this trade were also native, it’s good work
That means I need to surround myself with other ppl , becuz I don't trust myself being around myself
The problem is dirty people taking advantage of regular folks
True but at the end of the day you have to choose who you surround yourself with as well
It's like Corey and Trevor on the trailer park boys, yeah it was funny, but I always thought, damn these kids need a good environment where they stand a chance
You will be the sum of your closest friends!
I work alone. I don't know anyone around me that could keep up with me.
Sometimes that’s best, I tend to be an over achiever, so I tend to look good at work because I don’t mind out working the people around me, I just prefer to stay busy lol
Thank you.
Thank you, I appreciate the views and comments💪🏽
You gotta start somewhere, now get over the hill.
@@danlovins3155 bottom is always the hardest, luckily I had enough room to actually be pretty comfortable so it wasent too bad think we were at about 22” centers transitioning to 12” centers so plenty of room
Props for getting it together, you’ll be buying toys with that journeyman money before you know it 👊
I f*** with this type of mindset. I got my first DUI, and it set me back. My medical and violation bills are stacked, but my buddies in the boilermakers are showing me the ropes of work and life. No matter how many times i messed up, my family is always here trying to help me. Im blessed, and the man above knows in my heart. Im thankful. I might not have much but i know there a people in this world who'd do anything for this little things i have.
I think one of the things I got out of the Union that I didn’t expect is the brotherhood, , to be 100% honest I just joined for the money, but with every job I work I always meet solid people, who not only are willing to teach, but genuinely care, I don’t have much for family left, so for me the brotherhood is something that suprised me and has definitely helped me
Factz
Good stuff. Appreciate that
I'm doing the Lynn's welding program and going straight to the fitters. Or iron workers. Represent Minnesota!!!
If your in Minnesota and want to weld, I would put fitters at the top of the list, number one we have a better package and number 2 we weld a more diverse amount of material, but eather option will set you up for a great future, I’m biased obviously, fitters are the king of the trades lol😎
@@stirlingheaton8205 you aren't wrong man I've seen some pay stubs of my step dad he's been doin it 45 years but has a pension, retirement fund, and he gets social security he bring in 8k a month just off that. My mind was blown.
People think construction workers are dumb and poor, but skilled trades will never be replaced and we get paid for our skill, plus we really build things we can be proud of, for me that always motivates me
like most things in life; it is what you make of it
You're making 40 an hour as an apprentice?
I was now I’m making 46 an hour as an apprentice 💪🏽
@@stirlingheaton8205what trade you in?
Local 539 pipefitter💪🏽
Electrician or Plumber? Just turned 40 and I’m think about doing a trade instead of college 🙏🏾
Eather trade has its pluses and minuses, elections tend to make more on the check but plumbers have a lot of work as well , if you want to make money and build a pension, trades definitely have the advantage over collage in my opinion
Just passed my aptitude test interviewing with Local 342 in two months!
💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽
Local 342 out in the bay? I just passed that exam too, got my interview in 2 weeks. I have 4 years of plumbing experience so hopefully that helps.
*I finally got accepted into a pipefitters union. *I had 2 years mig fabrication, 3 years construction, 1 year millwright; & 6G welding cert, 1 welding technology cert. *Without my experience it would be almost be impossible.
@@dubr3662 it happens, took me a couple years even with weld certs, then I see some guys get in with no experience, can’t say I know how they pick, but good job getting in, only up from here💪🏽
i have no clue how to get into a welding position, i love tig welding bit have no clue how to get started on any welding job
It’s hard to start out in a tig job, there’s guys with years of experience waiting on them jobs, best bet is take any welding job, move up from there, non union side a lot of the welding jobs around me the temp services have most of them on a temp to hire contract, that would be a good place to start
What union did you go with? I'm looking to start
I’m local 539 pipefitter, but most trades have good packages and are better then average opportunities
Union is better but what’s not better is in northern states I hear most union workers are working none union jobs and still having too pay union dues
Idk what northern state you heard that about I’m in Minnesota, pretty northern, union workers only work union jobs, union dues are not much considering what we get in return, 600 a year and in return we get full representation, higher then average wages and full pension and Benifits…. I can’t see the down side in my local, now different locals have different agreements, so all I can speak to is my local and 539 has been a blessing to me🤷🏽♂️
@@stirlingheaton8205 good too hear I only know what I hear from supervisors and other guys I’m talking from Pennsylvania and North Carolina And also Texas But tbh mainly welding not pipe fitting I’m hearing from almost all the welders I know that union did them wrong with no job security But too be fair it was only three of them 😂 Make that money champ 🙏
@cristianantony3982 yeah a lot of southern states don’t have strong unions, right to work legislation waters down union Benifits and is a bad deal for all workers, but there are some strong unions , like I said every local is different, I got lucky to find a local that has one of the best packages in the country, but I know everywhere ain’t as blessed
Thank you for sharing your experience. This will help my 17 year old learn the pros of the job. Now to know any cons.
The cons are, you have to work for it, to succeed and advance how you work has a lot to do with how far you will get, these are times when you will be laid off, but if you are known as a good worker, you won’t be laid off much, I’ve been laid off for 1 week in 3 years, then there are people in my class who have been laid off for months, if you really put your all into it you have a lot of opportunities, I wish I would have gotten into it when I was 18, the pension would be pretty substantial rn, for any youth thinking of getting into the trades, my advice is get in while your young and build that pension
@@stirlingheaton8205 I started working as an Ironworker helper at 21 and now at 24 I'm the proud owner of a herniated disk I definetly chose the wrong job, being 5'6 w 120lbs.
I’ve been watching your videos for a little while now and you’ve been a big help with me making my decision to try to get into a pipefitters union. I just took my entry-level test yesterday and did awesome and next step is an orientation and interview. Super excited to change careers.
I appreciate the support, and glad I could help you chose a great career
Maybe you should show something from the view through that lens?
I’ll see if I can figure out how to do that without blinding myself on Monday, but definitely a fan of the snake belly lens, gold lens blue puddle, it really makes it easier to see your edges , even in out of position welds
Hey bro, where you working? I'm renovating a school in Elk River and just started my apprenticeship a few months back
I’m with corval, working out at mystic lake casino
Como Puedo aplicar para la unión de hvac por internet ya tengo un poco de experiencia y trabajando para una compañía de hvac
No habla espanol 🤷🏽♂️
Start hitting the gym, everything you have said definitely makes sense. I’m from the hood with 2 dead parents, they died when i was 10 and 11 i am now a plumber at 18. Trying to save my self from the storm god has put me through, currently recovering from grief. Now knowing god has me for the rest of my journey through life.
The trades definitely are a good turn around for people of our background, stay strong bro, it’s on us to build ourselves into our best possible self💪🏽
In the first year do you get 23.79 or 29.66? It shows both. If you have to pay out all those items you really only net 23.79 before taxes, right?
No you get the 23.79 + the 4.50 for vacation fund the dues and working fund come out as taxable income
I’m 24 from Minneapolis southside raised I just recently graduated summit academy now I’m a carpenter an I think the trades is what all these Black and Brown kids up here need 💯 truly a blessing in disguise I wish I knew about the trades earlier in life
Me too I did most my life doing all the wrong things, definitely would have turned out way different if I would have known about the trades sooner, that’s why I try to spread the word so hopefully someone else can make better choices then I did
Hey I'm from MN and been looking at Summit Academy how did you like it there? I've been looking at electrical.
Good morning brother
Always a good morning, another day to advance 💪🏽
@@stirlingheaton8205 if ever possible If you happen to know about any places to rent out while doing travel work out there let me know
Good video brother. Just keep recording we’re watching 👊🏾
Definitely appreciate it bro 💪🏽
I’m thinking about joining my local Pipefitters/Plumbers/HVAC Techs Union. I’m 25. Is that too old to start an apprenticeship? I don’t have any experience but I want to learn and make really good money.
Definitely not too old, I started when I was 41, I did have welding experience and a mechanical aptitude, but it’s never too late to start, there’s a 55 year old man in my class so 25, I wish I would have joined when I was 25 your in good shape better hurry and get your application in
What happens in the union if you fail a mandatory class with a test at the end? Do we pack our bags or do they give us time to retake it?
No you eather retake it or you retake the year if you can’t pass it, they are really good about helping you pass at the end of the day they want you to pass, if you don’t pass it looks bad on the trainers, so they are definitely motivated to see you succeed
@stirlingheaton8205 thanks man. Me and my friend had class and I passed the rigging test. He didn't. They told him to come back next year. We're in the boilermaker union in spokane
Every local has different rules, all I can speak to is what we do here at 539
Keep posting these videos Motivational!
I appreciate that I really just want to see people win💪🏽
@@stirlingheaton8205 your heart will be rewarded brother Keep doing what your doing in righteousness
I’d like to hear more about that 50 hour a week job. The people down there sound amazing. You ever miss those guys?
@user-uo9tj7nb1w yeah those were some good guys, I tried to tell them to come be pipefitters but they still there🤷🏽♂️
