INSIDE this 12th Century Fairytale Castle with 4 Secret Passages! French Chateau Tour 2024
A big thank you to Gonzague Le Nail at Cabinet Le Nail for the opportunity to tour this stunning French Chateau! A link where you can find the chateau for sale on Cabinet Le Nail's website can be found at the end of this description.
Come tour this renovated 12th century French castle, located in the beautiful Indre department of France. Priced at €3,750,000, Chateau St. Chartier offers a blend of historical charm and modern luxury, set in an picturesque countryside setting.
Phil's Note:
My jaw dropped when I first saw Chateau Saint Chartier. We were driving in from Chateauroux, and I saw one of the towers of the Castle. The car's navigation system said we were still 5 minutes away, and I thought it must be wrong -- that couldn't be it -- but then we continued to approach, seeing more towers and spires as we got closer, until it dominated our field of view. I hope we captured the castle's imposing feeling in this video.
It certainly has captured our imagination. We'd also like to thank the owner of the castle, Ivo Fornesa, for his hospitality and for letting us tour his beautiful castle. He had amazing stories about the castle, and look for a video with him soon.
I mentioned he's an author of over 50 books, and I'd like to recommend his book, Death in Saint-Chartier, which is available here: amzn.to/4cbxFzx
Castle History
The history of this property is long and rich. It had it's beginnings as a fortified Benedictine monastery from the 6th century, when a monk from Syria, Santus Carterius, came to evangelize and build a monastery. The defensive aspects of the site were built up more over the years, and the first mention of a castle on the property was in 1102 by the Archbishop of Bourges when he was visiting the area. More is known when André de Chauvigny (1150-1202), cousin to Richard the Lionheart, was given Saint-Chartier when he married Denise de Deols, Countess of Devon. The authors George Sand and Alexandre Dumas were apparently common guests at the castle, and it must have served as inspiration for their many works. Rumor has it that Joan of Arc even stayed at the property during one of her campaigns, and that Napoleon stopped by St. Chartier after his loss at Waterloo and buried his personal treasure on the property.
The castle's high towers, spacious rooms, and centuries-old architecture reflect its long history. The grand rooms on the second floor open to a terrace with breathtaking views of the surrounding park. Inside, you'll find stunning features like parquet and marble floors, monumental fireplaces, and a beautifully chapel with stained glass.

I love it. You could have made it even longer and I would have been in heaven. Thank you very well done. Now I just need to find the cash to buy this property. Where is that cash? Anyway? Guide me in the right direction. I want this property.😊
That house looks off the rack just like that suit
That's a lifestyle
Unfortunately this video took almost 3 year's to make due to Scottish weather 😂
"The owner used to be a monk." Given all the religious antiques, did he loot the monastery?
I have an old pirate treasure map I found in a bottle buried in the sand and it's for sale. Does anybody want to buy it ? 🏴☠️
I have a question, please Are there taxes on such property? What is the tax rate? Does the law allow new construction on the land? Can I plant certain agricultural crops? Thanks
Hi there- send me an email and I can send you more info: philip@philipwells.com

Excellent tour of this beautiful chateau.
Thanks Daya! Really glad you liked it :) Where are you watching from? Always curious to learn more about our audience
It's France, so thank you, a hard NO. The world is going to see what France is made of in a few days!!
The wallpapers and unique designs are beautiful. Clearly not the taste of most commenters but I think it’s gorgeous. I live a few blocks from this house and have walked by it for years always wondering what the inside looked like. Thank you for the tour!
You’re very welcome! What a beautiful neighborhood. Happy to give you a peek inside. What room would you claim as your bedroom if you had the house?
I love that they kept the exterior Victorian and I think the inside is very elegant and beautiful and not as industrial looking as so many gutted renovations. Thanks for the tour!
You’re very welcome! So, if they were the same price and you could never sell, would you take this one or 2698 Pacific (the other video)?
That is a national treasure. Oh if I could buy it and leave it to the people of Scotland with monies for it's perpetual care. Dream of my lifetime to be young again and live out my life there.
Love it
imagine when power cuts off in this castle or Walking outside in garden in night and u got bumped by elves and other scary creatures 😢. Some fantasy movie director should buy this place for makin movies or something. its not a place to live alone in such an abandoned placed.
Be right back, packing all my stuff to move in 😂🎉😅😅
Don’t worry about packing light-You can bring a LOT of stuff!
Which country is the location of this property.??
France 🇫🇷
Aaaamazing!
If I bought this castle I could move all of my relatives in and we could drive each other nuts. 😂
Замок- СКАЗКА!!❤❤❤
Awesome!
It was so much fun running around exploring Saint Chartier
Is it haunted😂😂😂
🤷♂️ not sure
CLUE makes a lot more sense now.
Best part was the garden! ❤ #goals
I thought so too!
❤
Thanks for watching!
Wow , nice home. But they stripped out every single Victorian detail. How stupid
I love this - was letzte Preis? :D
€3,750,000
👏🎯❤️🇧🇷
wait wait, ONLY 32 million for the entire ground spanning that much? Its like buying an entire city! Not to forget the part of the sea u own aswell
Absolutely stunning, my God.❤❤❤
me thinking, hmmmm 4 million?? like i could buy it
the gardens are absolutely stunning!!
Aren’t they? 😍
What happened to all the trees there oh my goodness. Still really beautiful place wow
I cant imagine anything worse than living on a cliff hangjng over the bitter, freezing North Sea. The wind NEVER stops...you never get warm
Im guessing they can afford heating
@@therealvlad505..you can never heat cold soaked ancient rocks enough to call it warm. Have you ever spent a weekend on the edge of the North Sea in Scotland. Do it, then tell me about heating
@@missymouse9754 i meant heating the house, obviously. As in central heating? I live in North Alberta, i can assure you I know what cold is 😂
Amazing castle. What an interesting history. Thank you for sharing with us
Of course, thanks for watching Vicki!

@@philipwellsrealestate Merci moi!

You’re very welcome, thanks for being here!
Thanks, what an amazing castle love more than any of the castles I have toured online. Great job.
We love to hear this! These comments mean so much, and keep us encouraged during long shooting and editing cycles. Can’t wait to share more with you
I don't think the question is how much to purchase but how much to maintain it? So, a trust or corporation comes to buy it and sell tickets to tourists. It's a shame as it won't be truly appreciated, only admired.
all the work that would be needed to keep everything dusted and the floors swept really intimidates me.
It’s definitely not for everyone! But I bet you could find a few friends to help with the dusting and sweeping if you owned it
Thank you ❤
You're welcome 😊
