Cross-Canada Tour: Episode 50!!! (part 2 of day 32)
Episode 50!!! Amazingly, we have produced 50 episodes of our Cross-Canada Tour. If you have been following along and have not yet subscribed, please subscribe and share this series on your social media platforms. Thanks so very much totally our subscribers who have followed us on our journey! In this 50th episode, we left the Dunlop family and made our way to Kakabeka Falls. We biked over a few hills and managed the fast descents. Kakabeka Falls was a major highlight and accomplishment. This is one of my dad's favorite spots in all of Canada! After a short stay at the Falls, we made plans to camp in the backyard of my dad's long-time friend. Thank you Pastor Dan and Connie for the shower and allowing us to stay. Enjoy the episode.

In this episode, we broke camp in Upsula and set out for Kakabeka Falls. For the first time in 5 days, the threat of rain ceased (although we did bike through a few sunshowers). Again there were very few places to rest so we tried to look for something safe on the side of the road. About noon we meet Quentin from Montreal, Quebec biking to the Yukon! We took another rest on the side of the road and after our rest, we met another cyclist, who was biking across Canada. He started in St John's and was hoping to make it to Vancouver. 20 km Upsula we got hit with a few more r...

Somewhere past Dinorwic, Ontario we continued to bike East on # 17. The afternoon turned out to be more difficult than we expected. We were biking into the wind with full sun and some heat. We took a long break at the nearest rest stop. Unfortunately, most, if not all these rest areas do not have drinkable water. Since we were running low on water, we had to ration our water. Haha, I thought I was hearing things when I heard my name the first time. I’m definitely going to have to go there the next time I head that way. Those falls are incredible, and would be great to see in person. What a great way to see them on your bike trip.
@Liamrichard thanks for always watching!
@liamrichard not sure why my reply to you and others does not highlight you user name? You won't get a notification to this reply. Nonetheless, yes you did get a honorable mention. We talked about this partnof the route in May when you were in Plumas. If you are planning to bike out there again, we highly recommend the falls! Cheers!
@@joshandjamesvosperfromhere6887 I remember you mentioning going to the falls in May, I’ll totally be checking it out next time I’m in that area. Man such a great trip though! Looking forward to seeing northern Lake Superior!
@@liamrichard ya, we were so surprised you missed the falls last year. The ride across Lake Superior is amazing. Some challenging points but the views are well worth it!
@ Looking forward to it! Cheers
Really awesome the people you get to meet on a trip like this!
@liamrichard for sure, that is all part of the journey!
Such a beautiful area of Ontario!
Hello and way to go guys!! Always like your videos, they give a good sense of the roads (shoulders) and terrain you ride on out there on these long tours. Also, that Kakabakawakakaka falls 😂 is impressive! It was an exciting day for us getting to that point as well. Keep up the good work! Cheers!!
@rickydunlop-d6d the video camera makes it look a little more narrow, but you guys know how thin it really was. We arrived at the Falls a few hours after we met you. It is one of the best spots in Canada. Thanks for always watching!!! Cheers!
@@rickydunlop-d6d hey for some reason when I reply to you comment(s) on TH-cam it does not highlight you address like it does here. You should get a notice on this reply but not my first reply. Not sure how to fix that? We almost always reply to all the comments. Hope you guys are doing well? We will have to talk soon in the new year and ask about your route from Ottawa to St John's. Cheers!
The hills in that area are no joke!
@@JamesDeerAdventures ya, we definitely underestimated the hills in NWO!!! Looking back on it, it was more difficult than BC. Thanks for watching!
You guys are amazing, you torture yourselves we can't imagine the pain you go through, but God bless you for sharing it with us. God's speed 🙏 you are safe on those narrow roads. ❤
@@kenflatt1086 thanks for faithfully watching! Yes, the roads do get narrow at certain points, but for the most part we felt safe.
Way to go Josh always look forward to your videos. Imagine narrow broken up shoulders on a main transportation route through Ontario. I hope that isn’t a sign of things to come as far as roads go!😂😂 keep up the good work. Make it or breaks it!👍✌️
@rickydunlop-d6d hey, so good to have you faithfully watching!!! Ya, make it or break it shoulders! The worst was the stretch we did with you guys just before deep river! In the next episode, I believe the Make It Or Break it team will make their first appearance!
You are amazing, that's why we were worrying about you both the high ways are very narrow and no shoulders in some of the construction. God was with you. Josh you and Pastor are amazing, thank you for sharing your journey with us ❤❤
@@kenflatt1086 thanks for staying with us on the channel and your encouraging words! We'll soon see the footage of when we arrive in your new community!!!
Good content lads! I'm really looking forward to your Thunder Bay to Sault Ste Marie video. Keep rolling!
@@MechanizedTV thanks for stopping by and watching our journey! We really appreciate it. The ride across Lake Superior is mind-blowing...I hope the footage lives up to the anticipation!
Those narrow shoulders are really scary when there is traffic from both sides. I remember diverting to the gravel quite often in that part of Ontario. Great footage and adventures. Happy trails! 😉
@@the1andonly so good to see you here! Thanks for your comments, it means a lot! I don't think things have improved since you 2017 Cross-Canada Tour. Likewise, we hit the gravel a number of times in order to be safe. It is for this reason that we use Mountain bikes. The worst stretch was from Mattawa to Deep River.
It’s almost triggering seeing that Ontario shoulder again! Haha
@@mel.lacharity nice to see you here! For sure, and it only get worse. Especially the section between Mattawa and Deep River, Ontario. Cheers!
Mosquito's can't fly Faster than 15km per hour. I realized this fact when traveling the TCT between Barrie and Penetanguishene. We could literally see a cloud of mosquito's chasing us along the trail, but as long as we peddled 15km/p/h or faster, we stayed a safe distance ahead of them.
@@ronnied1137 hey thanks for watching!!! Yes, if you could peddle fast enough the mosquitoes would not bother you. In the footage you can see all the insects fly by the camera. We have never seen mosquitoes like this and we live in Manitoba where we don't have a single mosquito! They are all married and have extremely large families!
What an interesting thing they have to get across the tracks in Dryden. Such a neat part of Ontario to bike through, and nice having pretty good shoulders too! Awesome job to get that far in that time!
@@liamrichard hey, thanks for tuning in again!!! Ya, in order to get across the Trax we had to take the Skywalk otherwise we would have been forced to go back through downtown. Considering all the rain, I think we made good time.
Thank you for sharing this with us. You guys are amazing and inspiring. We love you lots, God's speed ❤
@@kenflatt1086 thanks for watching and commenting!!! This stretch should look familiar to you guys? Soon we will be editing the section to your new town and house! Cheers!

Why do you pass on the right of someone? Such poor/dumb cycling or driving behaviour.( unless you are in the UK, NZ, AU), Passing on the right is not where someone would expect you to pass, be watching for you or expect you to come from out of the blue. It seems like a good way to cause a bike to bike accident. Safe cycling. 🚴🚴🚴
Best fries in Canada 1000%. I grew up eating those fries from that truck for 20+ summers every week starting back in the early 1970s. Always good to see people passing thru and discovering that area of Canada.

Seeing this video makes me wanna get back on the road haha. So cool that you got to do this. You can’t always get a nice spot to camp, but it did good enough of a job it seems. Looking forward to the next one!
@liamrichard ya, we loved Ontario, especially this section. You always seem to find the perfect campsite, but for us we getting desperate. It was getting late and we were tired. So the first place where we saw an opening where we could push our bikes off the road we took. Not the best, but like you say, good enough job.
So awesome! Glad the weather let up. Such a great trip, looking forward to seeing more!

Great upgrades guys. The Marathons are great tires but to be clear no tires are puncture proof, while the Marathons are one of the best on the market for puncture resistance they still are susceptible to flats like any other tire. The rack looks solid, but is a bit high so be careful not to overload it as it could effect the steering. Those tire levers looked good. Safe travels guys!! PS a bike work stand would help with these repairs big time. Cheers
@@WanderingEyeOutdoorAdventures thanks Dean so very much. We are in Vermillion Bay, On. Not sure how we will make it since we keep waiting it our on rain days. It has been pouring rain. 9:20 At one point, Highways 1 and 16 were concurrent from the Perimeter to west of Portage where 16 branches off. Then it was just the Yellowhead symbol as shown here. In the last several years, the Yellowhead continued into Winnipeg and stays with City Route 85 after the TCH turns onto Broadway until both 85 and the Yellowhead end at Portage and Main.
