UPDATE! I’ve been using these pliers ALOT more than I thought !! So like before I don’t use them a ton for PJ. They cut thick curb very well and really any heavy gauge or bigger links where you don’t need to maneuver in tight spaces. These pliers rock for cutting jump rings. If I weld one and I need to open it back up, I use these. That actually happens a lot I guess I make a lot of mistakes lo...

Amazon Welder Review & Compare to Orion Mpulse for Permanent Jewelry !
Thanks for the review. Can you provide a link to the equipment you are reviewing. I really don't do permanent jewelry but want something that would weld jump rings to a chain or an earring without leaving the fire scaling that soldering tends to leave.
Where did you get the grounded pliers wire extension?
@@tishafaye amazon, you want male to female banana clip extension
Thanks, this information was great, I’m just Scouting around trying to learn as much as possible about repairing my own jewelry vs trips to a jeweler. Weighing the difference. 👍🏼
12/3/24: could you please show how you setup the tweezers? I can not find a video that shows that setup.
I don’t use the tweezers. For permanent jewelry it’s not really a thing. Cross lock tweezers are occasionally useful but the ones supplied with these machines were useless to me
I'm going to try the 8 after watching your video. I bought the cheap gray welder to learn on before investing in a more expensive machine. I need my microscope to see the tiny welds I'm making because my eyesight is already bad. I've been able to use the 5's to see through the microscope and weld, but I'd really like a solution like orion has where the microscope auto-darkens. Any thoughts? thanks for the video!
If you are going to be using the welder a lot, the Orion is really the only way to go if you need the microscope (everyone does even they don’t know it). I’d look for a used microscope w orion package. I might be able to get a discount code from them if you want new. I use the arm version in the field and the stand version on my bench. It’s awesome man
Hi! Your videos are saving my life right now with this machine and getting set up but I have a few questions. Did yours come with a microscope? My instruction book goes into detail about one which I didn't have. Do you have 2x Grounded Pliers linked into your machine in those two points?
As far as I know, there is no microscope option for the Amazon machine. Maybe they have added the option more recently, you would know bc there would be an extra port in the back for connectivity (Ethernet etc). Yes you can hook up grounded clips or pliers to both banana inlets on the front. Remember U-shaped metal connectors or male banana plugs can be used for the ground connections. Congrats on the DIY route :)
Thank you
What is the Argon for? Does it need Argon gaz?
Doesn't "need" like it will work without. But its recommended for various reason I cover in other videos
What should I do if there are lots of sparks and an explosive sound while welding on the lowest settings? Is this normal? Also what type of jump rings are best for welding, gold plated or stainless steel?
The best welding jump rings are solid gold :) I’d say stainless is better than gold plated from a consistency standpoint. Gold plated can be so many different things. As far you machine blowing up, it’s not normal under normal conditions. By that I mean, clean, sharp electrode, closed jump rings, clean tools. Any of those not true can causes big sparks
So i havent been using argon yet but when i get a tank what kind of safety tips would i need to know? Is it supposed to be stored a certain way? I work in a salon and want to extra cautious
Just make sure it doesn't get knocked over. tuck it away :) just make sure your regulator is tight (use a big wrench ), and keep the flow rate low.
I've been needing to do a review on mine also, and a tutorial on how to use it with various materials
How did you get the other fonts? Mine only came with a few very basics ones loaded
You can load them onto the usb stick
I'm doing wire wrap and want to tackle some of the wires and ends. Is this for me?
I have "Amazon" version and although it somewhat works, it is defective by design. It does not control arc current well. What it is inside is a 42V 130000mfd capacitor bank discharging through 0.1 Ohm resistor through stylus. There is no choke (inductor) and there is no smooth current rise, fall or regulation. As the result, the arc spot is uncontrolled while the stylus moves, and the current is larger than optimum for the used electrode diameter. It creates burns on materials that easily evaporate or meld (like bronze). The duration of the pulse is controlled in steps of 3ms up to 30ms. I did modify it to make it work better but it requires to be electronics professional, and throwing away the main control board.
Thanks for the info ! Very cool you reverse engineered it. I think for what it is (a cheap welder ) it can work for permanent jewelry. There are a lot of people in the industry who use it. As for other applications, ya man, it’s probably terrible. The bottom line is for people reading this, it’s a starter machine at best. As I said in the video upgrading should be a priority after proof of concept. I don’t even use this machine anymore so I’m not trying to convince people it’s awesome or anything.-just an easy way to get your business started. Also worth noting when this video was made, there were no mid tier micro welders on the market. It was like $300 or $2500. So there was a compelling argument for a starter unit. Now it’s no so clear with much more solid options in the $1k-$1500 ranges. Anyway thanks again for the info !!
I'm glad to see this video has solved my current concerns. I would like to ask, my jump rings are 14K GF, 0.64*4mm (22GA). For the machine from Amazon, what power setting should I adjust it to, 2/3? Additionally, my 925 sterling silver rings are also 0.64*4mm. Thank you very much for your helpful video. Best wishes to you!
By saying “don’t feel like you need to subscribe” made me want to subscribe! Thanks for the tips and tricks. Appreciate it
Thanks for tutorial, it's helpful a lot. The best argon-solution in my opinion the 1L disposable Rothenberger cylinder with Oxyturbo MINOR 2 regulator, because gas refilling requires a permit here in Hungary.
Another misleading video, too much talking and no real presentation of the device. Did you notice that the electrode broke when he attempted welding? Did you notice that there was not welding at all? The device require inert gas to function, like Argon. I haven't seen something on the presentation. Do you believe that a device that cost 9000$ is the same like the Chinese one. Seriously? I bought the Chinese one. It's useful if you need to make a simple spot welding. That's all.
This is a funny comment. You obviously didn’t listen to “all the talking”. No electrode broke. The welder does not require argon to function. It functions better with argon. No one is arguing a $250 welder functions like more expensive models (which I own). The only thing misleading here is your comment. But hey, it’s internet, you get the good the bad and the crazy. Thanks for watching. Watch that movie Trolls its right up your alley ;)!
What settin did you use for stainless steal
How do you put it together! lol I just bought one and have no idea where anything goes
Check out my set up video
Where does the ground hook in the machine ??
In the front :)
Thank you! Where do you get your argon gas? It's so expensive here
Mom and pop places if possible. The big chains are 2-3x !
@@Friction-Jewelry wow thats crazy! Thank you
anyone have any sucess to welder brass with the amazon one? I haven't any sucess. A have already read alot about the problem related to welder brass. I don't know if I spend more money and give a try with orion machine.
Can you explain the problem ? Gauge wire / material you are trying to weld? The Orion machines that go to 30J of power probably wont give you much different results. They have higher end models that do 100J+ ..but I'm not sure if power is your issue.
This Pulse Argon jewelry welder (Jinhuo) Is a load of crap, with no support. Probably due to the fact its a load of crap ! Used it once to test it, next time I brought it out it locks up in wait never charging to ready. Read this problem with others on other sites. Also does not discharge when powered off, use a power resister hooked to ground and touch to tip when power off, this also stated on other sites. (WARNING) Appreciate your video though it has good info.
Oh your VIDEO was SPOT ON the info I was needing!!! I arc weld and mig weld and I’ve been trying to understand if a rod or wire electrode, solder etc. was needed for this machine! Answer is NO! I think it welds two pieces that touch by actually melting/pooling them together….. Correct? However I’d still like to understand a few more things…. * like what metals don’t work well with this machine?? Silver??? *also I haven’t see a weld close up. So it’s hard to know how much sanding and clean up is necessary for a weld. Thank YOU for sharing your knowledge it’s very kind and helpful to know folks like yourself want to share and teach!!!!
@@amyh.2020 correct, it goes plasma and pools together. I’ve only used it with silver gold filled & steel. There isn’t much cleanup at the small scale I work with. Zero sanding as you can use more welds to smooth it out. It should be noted this machine is not at the level of more expensive micro welders on the market
Thank you for doing these videos!
Hi. I know you’ve probably said this in other videos, but do you mind emailing me or replying with a list of tools that I need to do PJ and the brands based off your opinion. I love how raw and honest you are and most people only refer this one brand, where you talk about multiple.
@@mzkdub2012 i would just avoid the cheap plier kits on Amazon & at Michaels etc. you need 2 pairs chain nose and 1 pair cutters at minimum. my tool kit that we use: - grounded flat nose pliers: xuron 452G and tronex p723 - holding pliers / chainmaille plier flat nose : xuron 452 and for thicker gauge you need something with a bigger tip at least 2-2.5mm wide like xuron 475. I recommend xuron bc they are cheap and decent. My employees like the smaller handle while I like the long tronex handles. Cutters. You need 2 or 3 pairs. One fine one beefy yet precision, one memory wire cutter like the one in this video. A lot of my tool recommendations depend on the chain you are working with. There is no one set that works best for all. Fine cutter: tronex 5223 Medium: lindstrom 8162 Big: xuron 2194 You’ll also need an electrode sharpener I have videos on that
Thank you sooo much! SUPER HELPFUL!
Hi, I am interested in permanent jewelry and I am doing my research on what I need and what do I need to do. I was not aware argon gas, where can you get it from? Should I treat it like gas like caution wise ? How long does a tank last ?
@@JasmineTrujillo-yo1uu argon gas you can at your local welding supply store, or gas chain just google map it. You can even buy a full tank online. The gas itself is inert. It’s not dangerous.
@@Friction-Jewelry omg thank you so much for the advice!!! Do you have a video on how to start a permanent jewelry business? Like do you need insurance? Where can you get insurance? And do vendors ask you to have it on hand ?
Non jeweler question.. I want something I can micro fill in rust damaged gun or knife metal to ultimately flatten, polish and blue. Is this product something i can build up a millimeter or two of a gap in a ver small area? If these are limited to jewelry links I understand but if I can use it to build up material, albeit small amounts it might be a fit for me. I appreciate any feedback. Thanks for the video
Hmm. That is application I don’t have experience with. You can certainly add material to a gap, it’s harder to control vs something like solder. It will take practice but normally if I’m trying to add metal to a joint, I’ll ground the speed wire or whatever, place the electrode on the joint and then bring the wire into the joint.. hard to explain I should make a video on this 😊
@@Friction-Jewelry I appreciate the response. I think I understand.. you lay the wire in the gap then the wire supports as a filler. My application is the cocking teeth on the gun hammer in the TH-cam video… th-cam.com/users/shorts1Kb3RcfkTrA?si=u2GupT3p_aEqw3kB
Thanks for the video was very helpful! Would I need argon to start out with the Amazon welder?
You don’t need it to start, add it after a few shows if your business is working.
Can it be used to weld stainless steel jewelry?
Yes in fact that is prob the best use of this machine
@@Friction-Jewelry can it patch the jewelry or just connect/weld? Thank you very much for the answer. I really need this tool for watchmaking.
@@submariner144 it doenst "patch" unless you add material to the weld
@@Friction-Jewelry of course. I'm sorry for my english. Thank you once again, and have a good one!
Oh and one more question. How do you use this/can you use this when welding necklaces and anklets on people? Just wondering if you’ve been able to get creative and make it work for those. If not, what do you default to, since I know you like to SEE!
Thanks for the video. Do you ever feel like while using the mpulse, you wish the machine had a half (.5) setting? I’m a bit of a perfectionist and think that I’d not like it if welds were too over melted or under is why I ask. TIA!
Yes! In practice through we do just fine with the original Mpulse, however the PJ and the new Mpulse are worthwhile upgrades if you need a second welder, or you need to work small. Which eventually everyone will be welding links etc. As the industry develops big jump rings will start to go away bc customers will realize they don’t look good.
Totally appreciate this; very helpful review, man. I’m a little older so I definitely have a problem with seeing, and also add far sightedness to that! Two questions I didn’t think I heard you address but maybe I missed it: 1) To what power does it magnify to? I understand things like “10x”, like from the goose neck magnifying glasses. 2) There are two microscope setups from Orion. The one you have and a more stationary one, correct? What’s the difference, and pros/cons? I can infer that you prefer the one you have… Thank you!!
1) the eye pieces are 5x, but it’s on a different scale (is the only way I can describe it) vs the convex lens of magnifying lamps. More than that, it’s the clarity, free of distortion you get from having the wrong angle or focal length with other magnifiers. Also the eye pieces are swappable. So you can increase magnification but it would decrease field of view so I wouldn’t recommend. 2) Orion / sunstone offers the articulating arm and stand mounts for their scope. The arm is what nearly all PJ companies use. The stand’s only advantage is portability, but its lack of functionality vs the arm make it a bad option imo. As I mentioned in the video You need to be able to move the stylus around freely to do Pj. The stand and ADLs require you to bring someone’s wrist into position (not good), and they also prevent someone from sitting across from you.
Thank you so much, Mike! Wow, you’re up early, lol. I used to live in beautiful SD as well for college! Now on the east coast. Anyhow, I’m sorry I underestimated your response time, as I gave you a heads up on your Etsy contact as well. Below this comment is one more question I had for ya! It’s about being able to perform welds for necklaces and anklets. Thanks!!!!
Hi I am a newbie and I just got this machine. I was trying to figure out the copper head to try and twist it off to put the tungsten needle in but it wouldn’t budge. so my friend tried to take it out of the pen and he broke it to pieces😢 What if the copper head broke inside the pen? Do you just get a new copper head for the needle? or is the old part still stuck inside and broken? 😞I don’t know if I should get a new copper head for the needle and try that or just get a new pen connection entirely. Please help!
Hmm. Copper head I assume you mean the collet that holds the tungsten ? It’s just a screw. I’m not sure why it wouldn’t budge / unscrew. Send pics to my IG I guess
@@Friction-Jewelryyes the thing that holds the needle. The outer screw came off just fine, but the inner one that you put in the needle and then put into the pen broke off. I’ll send pics. thank you!
@@ChandoppeHorvath Ive never seen or heard of that happening I'm sorry.
@@Friction-Jewelrythat’s ok. I realize that piece rusted in there and broke off. I got a new pen to replace it. I was freaking out but a simple fix once it came in the mail
@@ChandoppeHorvath it's great you got some customer service. That is one advantage of Amazon, bc they know you can send it back easily.
Love your videos, you are very honest. I just returned my Zapp+ with the upgraded ADL, and will be getting an Mpulse and the microscope with the articulating arm. I feel it will be better because I struggled with seeing the seam on jump rings. Just getting started in this adventure!
Glad it was helpful! I know you will like the scope and arm, I believe it is the best way in terms of workflow and accuracy. You will be able to fix any bracelet done by anyone in the world. You will Weld links smaller than you thought possible. After all, how can we "micro" well weld without a "micro-scope" ? :))
This was was so helpful! Thank you!
Great video Thank you I Am just venturing into the world of permanent jewellery Does the welder have a safety feature that unless you complete a circuit it won’t fire I just want to be absolutely safe I see it’s a feature with the Zapp and Orion welders and I am swaying towards those but the price is huge and the Amazon one price is great for a start up
All of the welders have a delay period between first connection of a completed circuit and firing. Ya the Amazon machine esp used is so cheap it’s great for proof of concept. When this video was made the zapp (or plus) did not exist. Also Orions could not be had used or refinished for $1500. Like I said in my video if you have a good venue to sell at, it’s worth upgrading right away. If not, Amazon is probably your call.
@@Friction-Jewelry Thank you 🙏 I am considering the zapp plus with the screen
Thanks for this! I’ve just bought the Amazon welder and I’m so intimidated - can you show a video tutorial of a permanent jewellery weld, can’t find ANY online 😢
Do you have to use the argon gas to weld?
@@robertomesa428 no. But I recommend it.
I just got mine, I have the darkening glasses but it’s still so bright to me… is that normal?
Thank you , this was very helpful.
Made in Saco Maine...Nice quality snips made close to home for me,that's why I prefer Xuron..
Ya I’ve been really using these more and more. It’s a bit too clunky for most of our PJ chains but it really does a great job for what it’s intended: hard wire.
Where can I find a shark bite connnector for unbranded welder. Help
There are no shark bites on it, just push to connect. If you are talking about the gas line connection on the back of the welder, you are looking for a bulkhead union 1/4" push to connect. They are on Amazon. You'll need to remove the case to install.
hey is it still down?
Yes. Never fixed. Luckily I was able to return it. I bought a Cloudray 30W will do review soon.
Well,, like, yeah!!! :P Was interested in your vids as am keen to ge the small spot welder then, also watched this 1 as [your right], not much info r.e. the OH&S affects of this [repeated] micro UV flashes any where on the "wide wide world of web". Twas intrigued as, it seemeds logical that, even though is 'micro' flashes, working up close to repeated bursts of hi level UV didn't seem very clever. 2 things about eye damage from weld flash. Repeated exposure is bad &, Side flashes into the eye(s) is(are) much much worstest. Taa (Oz lingo 4 thanks) 4 the info and this report on your [ self voulunteered lab rat ] experiment... & bad news is,, the damage is permenant. Sorry. Also mate, the UV flashes are carcinogenic(sp?) to the skin. Takes years of UV exposure to arc & MIG flashes but, ya up close n rite in it with your stuff so, face n fingers are steadility gettin bathed in UV a & b. Please consider - Dude. Maybe wear gloves & a 'KKK idiot' type hood or similar? LOL, that'd sure attract a crowd @ the weekend market! ;) [FYI, for the jocular retarded, that's a joke]. Hey, and really well presented/reported vids - Taa! :)
Def a great comment man. I don't even bother with the glasses anymore. Scope with auto darken all the way!
this was very helpful. i purchased this machine and im in the process of learning. can you share your knowledge on the grounding clamp, some users clamp to their pliers and others clamp to the jump rings, which do you prefer?
Hi, I don’t use a clamp. It’s too inconvenient. I used grounded pliers, so the ground is perm wired to the pliers. You can make your own with a soldering iron or you can buy online. Xuron or tronex prob the most popular, but there are others on the market too :)
@@Friction-Jewelry thank you so much!! my machine came with large tweezers that are hard wired maybe just use those? or i can clamp to my pliers right?
@@simoneandnina ya you can clamp to your pliers but just take my advice on this one, buy the grounded pliers. They are like $40. or cut the handle to your pliers and cut the clamp off the wire you have and attach it. I've got a video on how to do it.
@@Friction-Jewelry i appreciate you soooo much! i ordered a pair! thank you again for all you do and the time you take to post these videos. much love!
Do you need a tank of gas if you are just starting out?
Hi! I am having a hard time closing the weld. I keep blowing through jump rings and different settings. What setting do you recommend for a small 3mm 14k gold filled jump ring?
Go to 1/3 on the settings. Clean your electrode. You need a sharpener. See my other vids on that. 3mm doesn’t matter, it’s the thickens or gauge of the wire / jump ring / chain link that will dictate the settings.
@@Friction-Jewelry Thanks. I have tried that and the first time it will spark, then after that I don't get a spark. Any idea of what could be the problem? I've been searching online for some sort of answer and cant find it!
@@taliespidesigns5757 chances are you aren't getting a spark bc you are flinching or pulling the stylus away too quickly. Try and maintain gentle, even pressure on the weld joint until the machine fires
