Accelerated Technologies- Snowmobile suspension tuning, setting the rear sag with the Motool Slacker
มุมมอง 7K3 ปีที่แล้ว
Setting the rear sag on any powersports vehicle is critical to ride comfort and handling. But, snowmobiles are unique in that they have a centre shock. No other vehicle has a centre support system that can cause a massive problem when it becomes dominant. By maintaining correct rear sag, we are able to 'stay off' the centre shock and it's related side effects. This will keep the sled comfortabl...
Accelerated Technologies - Snowmobile suspension tuning, setting the rear sag by tape measure
มุมมอง 18K3 ปีที่แล้ว
Setting the rear suspension sag of a snowmobile, or any powersports vehicle for that matter is instrumental for proper handling. Being able to hit the correct sag (roughly 1/3 suspension travel) with rider(s) on board, with minimal preload, ensures you have the correct springs in the vehicle. The correct spring has about a 30-40 pound rider window in our experience, so if you are lighter or hea...

The new Gen 4 Ski doo XRS' are the flagship, big bump mogul tamers. What does the average trail rider do that just wants flat, predictable cornering without losing the XRS capability? We engineered a spring package that combines a lower front ride height with a stronger spring 'end' rate to prevent bottoming. Snowmobile Suspension Set up by Accelerated Technologies - Dual Springs Explained
มุมมอง 27K4 ปีที่แล้ว
Snowmobile Suspension Set up - Dual Rate Springs explained. Often when setting up a groomed trail or off trail snowmobile's suspension and chassis, we will install Dual Rate ski and/or centre shock springs. Dual rate springs have a softer 'start' rate than stock but can then go stronger than stock at a selected point in the shock travel. This ability allows us to provide a solution that is both...

I sprung for aftermarket shocks (Elka and Exit) and have been struggling to adjust the shocks to be at least better than OEM. • @revrnd1
    @revrnd1 ปีที่แล้ว

    John, when you're trying new rear torsion springs for a sled, no you initially try setting the sag with the adjuster set to the 'middle' allowing for adjustment in both directions? I se online guys throwing springs at sleds but no mention of where the adjuster is. Like you mention in the video, the sag may be OK for a 'light situation' but if you're maxxed out on the adjustment in either direction in a lightly or loaded condition, you may not have any more adjustment.

      @@bennyb6071 Hey Benny, No I didn’t care for them at all. The QS3’s were a harsh ride IMO no matter what I did and it’s due to lacking rebound adjustment. I was very disappointed with the offering of the Fox QS3’s on one of Cats highest priced sleds. If it came with the FOX QS3R’s as standard equipment I could have worked with them as they have rebound. The QS3’s do not. Coming off of Skidoo since 2007 and this being my first Arctic Cat, I can now say with the Elka Stage 5’s installed the T-cat rides as good as my XRS 900T with R-motion. That’s all the Cat needs to do is offer a better quality shock on their high end T-cat. Take Care ❄

    I'm waiting on delivery of a Sidwinder XTX 146 and am researching suspension springs. Information is hard to find even on the I-net. Thus stumbling on your site has proven valuable. Based on my findings thus far, AC/Yamaha's STOCK spring rating is 0.394" SQ, - 90Deg. Angle - 165 LB. They offer a upgrade rated 0.405" SQ, - 85Deg. Angle - 191 LB. I have a friend with a AC racing sled 2017, Model 600SX . I was only able to measure the long arm at 0.437" SQ. I have not found any additional info on that spring. My reason for doing this research is - I will be building a rack on the back of the tunnel to carry my ice fishing gear. I'm 200 lb, by the time I'm dressed, probably 220 to 225 lb. The fishing gear - auger, rods, tackle, sonar, heater, propane, etc going in the rack will probably weigh 60 to 80 lbs. So, I pretty sure the stock spring would be replaced.

    Generally, you should get a static sag measurement, and then determine the amount of rider sag from the static sag measurement ... rider sag should not be determined from an uncompressed suspension, as you've demonstrated here. Also, as you point out, rider sag should be measured with the rider in full gear, as well as with anything else you plan to carry. Something this video lacks is how to determine proper sag (you could at least mention whether the sled manufacture has a recommending range, and where one can look to find this info). I don't know if you intend to make a video showing what adjustments should be made to bring the sag into the manufacturer's recommended range, but if not, you also left out how to adjust spring pre-load, and what effects will occur with adjustments to each shock in the skid.

    • @acceleratedtechnologies6704
      @acceleratedtechnologies6704 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I disagree completely. We ALWAYS check rider sag from completely topped up. We also measure static sag as you have indicated (difference between topped up and vehicle only). Comparing the static sag to the rider sag can tell us lots about the rate of the spring and amount of preload required to hit sag. We posted a second video a few hours that does indeed show us adjusting the preload and it's effect on the spring to hit target sag. I do however appreciate all your negative comments and i will try to do better next time.

    • @paulmollise1856
      @paulmollise1856 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Coming from the dirt bike works we always check static sag first, then go off of that number to get the sag we want, agree you need a rider in full gear and sled with all the accessories to get a good set up

    • @barefootbob1269
      @barefootbob1269 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes I am with you there. I lift sled let it settle back down to resting position and go from there. I got that way from a BRP rep. and have always done it that way with good luck. I am sure there are a few good ways as long as you do it the same all the time you will still get the same result. Even if you do it his way vs mine it will be within the range anyway. From lifted off the ground to sitting on the ground I only loose about 1/2" so if your range is 2-3 of sag then even with that 1/2 loss still in the window. Just my thoughts and it's always worked for me.

    Something seems wrong with this theory, if the tender spring was in fact 4.0 and the main a 2.0, the tender spring would not compress before the main spring. Tender springs are supposed to be softer, not harder than the main spring.

    • @acceleratedtechnologies9801
      @acceleratedtechnologies9801 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello MiT. I get your confusion, and you are not wrong. What happens is the 4.0 Tender compresses at half the rate of the 2.0 main spring, as you are correct it is stiffer. So, if the shock strokes for example 10mm, the main spring stroked 6.5mm and the tender around 3.5mm to take up the (approx) 10mm of travel. Follow? Now that we know the 2:1 travel ratio (in this example) we can plan when to lock the tender out to shift to our stronger 'end' rate. That is why Tender springs are usually much shorter than mains, because we don't want them to stroke very far before we lock them out of the equation.... Make sense now? They both compress together whenever the shock moves at all, just at different rates depending on their spring rate.... John.
