Fender Performer reshaped Stratocaster: comparison and dedication.
I’ve been rather busy the last few weeks so this video is better late than never. This is a comparison of the Fender Performer performer shaped Stratocaster and a standard export style strat. The modifications include a full body reshape, 500 K potentiometers, relocating the reverse wound, reverse polarity middle pick up to the bridge position and a deaf Eddie six position rotary Chromacaster switch. Dedicated and special thanks go out to Phil Piscopo, my wife and kids, Rick Gifford, Mike Montana, Dario and his amazing crew and the electricians that helped me to create Figidini Hills Studios . Ciao!

i did a very similar thing to a tele and it went from basically unplayed to the guitar i keep around me at all times
@@tannermcintosh1071 What did you do to yours? I sold my Tele after banging my hand on the cramped cutaway too many times.
@@DominicPiscopoFigidiniHill i basically made it into a similar shape to jerry Garcia's tiger guitar with a small hand saw and files coated it with tung oil and added a single Gretch lap steel pickup and it plays great . i really agree that learning how to build guitars or atleast modify them improves your playing .... lmao the top cutaway on the tele feels like a spell of anti ergonomics or something
@@DominicPiscopoFigidiniHill the shape is actually quite performer like

nope
Beautiful !!!
I'm dedicating it to the sacrifices of our family and ancestors and to those who further the knowledge and education of humankind regardless of the risk.
Does the original performer have an arm carve at all? 🤔
Yes, but it is more like a standard modern Strat rather than a rounded compound curve.
Should sand a tiny lip around the jack plate hole so it has a stopping point when you push it in.
I did that to a small degree when I filled the paint off the inside. A better way in general is a full depth plug but I am using items at hand. That same poplar is being cut into the pick guard backer template.
I have been enjoying your journey of creating a Performer body out of a strat as I have thought about that before. But this rant about your product purchase is so annoying and pointless. You didn’t explain what you purchased or secondly no one cares.
@@davidmarkham4391 I appreciate your reply. I spent years doing purchasing and logistics so if I’m spending my money with a 3 week project deadline I absolutely care. This one is about the service or lack of service from each retailer and source. Wiring instructions or at minimum a source for them should be expected and of all places Stew Mac failed. Amazon messed up everything. The LMS was cheaper, faster and benefits the musicians working there directly. Don’t worry, now that everything is finally here I can get back to work on what we all came here for.
But, how the, what, how, what sort of, how the hell, but, seriously, how?
This is probably the best reaction I’ve ever received! Short story is the pickups have separate outs called Ric-O-Sound. The bridge goes to my guitar set up through a whammy & cocked wah & the neck pickup has another clean path along with the piezo which runs through a TS style pedal. They all go back into the same Voicelive processor with a little mixer…check out my videos on the “EveRig” and my Piezo modification on the 4005XC. It’s a very weird rig built for everything including Vox and a mono out to an amp or PA. Cheers!
Bit of a contrast to an East Coast I had that you turned the knobs and nothing happened. 😁
Thanks! I do similar mods to strats too.
Sell these PLEASE… I’ve been searching for one for a new project and I don’t wanna spend 3k on the whole guitar.
Literally name your price for just an unfinished diy performer body (with everything added to it so it’s ready to be finished)
@@_metal.militiaI’m prototyping some right now. I hope to have bodies for S, and T guitars and J bass swaps.
@@DominicPiscopoFigidiniHill great!!! Thanks.
This video is so chaotic and fun- I love it
@@jamesoniris2647 Glad you enjoyed it! I’m working on even more chaos and fun for the final and full build videos.
Not a bad looking design, but the proprietary pickups meant to upgrade to humbuckers ( to fine tune your sound) , you'd need a new pickguard, and perhaps routing the body.
@@rockeroller Thanks! I would likely go with HB’s if it were a 24 fret like the original John Page designed performer, but I have another 2 HB guitar build planned. My goal here is to tweak the things that I’m not fond of in a strat including the 5 way, plus changing the orientation and adding a metal plate underneath the bridge pickup to beef it up. The new pickguard will indeed have a performer based shape.

I have been in love with the Performer for ever. GREAT job, bro. I have a body I may do this too now.

Good point. Don’t gut, this is about reusing a discarded body. I knew as soon as I posted about a Performer reshape the internet would be immediately suggesting those or a blank instead of this crusty old Strat. There’s more on this deliberate body choice later…
Awesome! Cant wait to see how the finished project looks like!

Thanks! I was at a swap meet and saw the squashed combo outline hidden in the HM… just by dumb luck a 25” 24 fret neck will line up. They are fun projects to level up the ‘ol woodworking skills. The wood in them is hit and miss as in sometimes it’s more glue and “woodish product matrix” than actual wood. Be prepared to have the collectors market trash you for modding a HM museum piece.

Yup home of US law too. Your ethics at stake if you want to break it. I found out too late that it was a mistake both in playability and ethics which is partly why I made the video. Every fake Ric I see is pretty much an anemic solid body, they sound nothing like a real chambered Rickenbacker. It’s as effective as a Ferrari kit car built on a 4 cylinder Fiero chassis. It’s not fooling anyone at the race and going to suck out on the track.
