Dean Wallace Maersk is a forwarder and fleet So this was ONE of their cargo ships Please NAME it correctly JUST LOOK THE NAME WRITE on both BOW and STERN is not a PREJUDICE that US people are substantially UNCULTURED.
@@ddeanwallace I think he is referring to the liberty class of ship. Also I don't think it matters if you call it by its class or specific title, some people will be confused either way. I would just put in the title that you are referring to the class and not the specific ship.

Just imagine in less than 5 years Maersk will be floating ships with 20,000 containers. I'm trying to figure out how the harbors will be able to load and unload such massive ships. They won't even fit into the new upgraded Panama Canal.
great job its nice to see things like this because a lot of people don't no how this stuff works and its cool that some people like you would share this with every one so thank you hope to see some more thank you again jim
James Bryce You might want to watch it again. You will see me attaching my safety cable to the beam of the crane just before picking up the poll to start unlocking the cones. That being said, if I were to fall, even being tied off to the crane, by the time I got to the end of the cable there’s a good chance I wouldn’t make it. That steel isn’t very soft or forgiving.
Really not sure why you think that.If you watch the beginning you can see my partner has his on and up top you can see me attaching my safety cable to the crane. The only one not wearing one is the foreman because he's not hanging his butt over the edge.
I wish I had recorded the first time I flew, but my foreman told me no, haha. I think the ship I flew on was the hyundai confidence. I'm a casual down in tacoma
The first time I flew, it was one of my first jobs ever. Called off the pad on the Hoot. Pouring rain and high winds on the very aft end of the ship. No idea what I was doing. The traveling foreman from Tacoma refused to go up with me. I had never unlocked cones before, and I was given no direction, so naturally I unlocked the wrong side. Up I went again.... Be safe down there in "T" Town.
Dean Wallace nice, haha. I was lucky and had an old white haired guy named Marty as my foreman and i was flying with a steady xman. Thanks. Stay safe up there I’m Seattle. I’m hoping with husky finishing soon & all the other stuff I’ll be registered in the next couple of years and be able to travel around
I'm old enough to have actually done it like that before they had the wire restraints (Eddie Gear). You didn't stand up usually, just lay down and unlock the boxes. There also used to be a clamp fitting (Bridges) that would attach two boxes together at the top you would have to take off as well.
5.5 years after you posted this, I realize that I'm pretty late to the party... But I just wanted to say that I have always respected dock workers. You guys bust your ass, make decent money, and do shit that would make most "men" cry on their mommy's shoulder.

How many containers can they fit on the ship?
Over 20,000
Were captain Thomas
5year iam Singapore work
No railing strolling on the top of the stack of containers. Yikes!
I've been there many times ... not lately though - Greetings from an retired seaman from Denmark 😎
I wish you a wonderful retirement.
Dean Wallace; thank you very much.... 😊
Those things are heavy, and trust me its looks way harder than it looks

“Maersk” is a forwarder & fleet So this is just one of their ships, name correctly. Or do you think any us cargo ship is a “Liberty “ ?
patsematary Really not sure what you are talking about by do I think any us ship is s “Liberty”?

Rail Fanning 844 Sorry. I’ll work on that. 😜
Rail Fanning 844 I didn't actually know there was two levels of Apple care either
Rail Fanning 844 Absolutely!
i thought the safety regulations require two safety lines when working on the edge and always one when working on heights
@3:49 Your partners 2 bays forward on his belly unlocking LOOOL......Come on maaaaan
She's afraid of heights.....
NOPE!!

Good job guys.... be safe up there.....
The frist thing I see is that they wear safety harnesses with fall-arrest but they don't attach them to anything. if they fall, they're dead!

My apologies, I see you attach a cable but I don't see the other 2 guys attached to anything.
Women should start going for these type of jobs if they really want equality
Frank Juan you have a couple feminists up there for a week, they'll never say another word.
No harness required I guess eh?
Really not sure why you think that.If you watch the beginning you can see my partner has his on and up top you can see me attaching my safety cable to the crane. The only one not wearing one is the foreman because he's not hanging his butt over the edge.
Dean Wallace ya my mistake sorry
Do you guys work around weather? Are you up there in rain and snow? Wind?
Just like the US Postal Service. It's not very fun on a cold dark night with high wind and heavy rain. I've done it.
Typical union job . One guy workin' three more standing around .
So.......... have ever done what I do? According to your Typical un-informed comment, I would say no.
Ugh i can feel my legs and feet tingle..
Don't think Osha would approve of this!!
Because.............??
Because once you’re out of the safety cage, it’s not safe anymore.
@@ddeanwallace because you need a harness up there
I'm surprised he can eve see passed those huge balls while looking down!
It's true, I have to lean way over in order to see. :)
lol
You have to do that every time? Seems like there would be a better way
We only do this for the top layer of containers. The others can be unlocked with long poles from below.
There are safety cages where you don’t have to get out of the cage to unlock. Remember once you get out of the safety cage, it’s not safe anymore.
u guys hiring 😁😁😁
Cristian Toth We just held a lottery. Very difficult to get in.
Dean Wallace awesome video, I wouldn't mind doing that kind of job, but be safe out there, keep them videos coming!!!!

well my hands are sweating.
Sounds like you better stay on the ground. :-)
You would have to pay me pretty damn good to do this lol.
ted s The pay is very good and the benefits are amazing. It sure beats sitting in an office cubicle. I am truly Blessed to have this job.
Even on cold snowy icy days or nights?
Dean Wallace - you hiring bro?
beautiful sea day
It was a Beautiful Seattle Day! Don't tell anyone though because we want everyone to think that it ALWAYS RAINS in Seattle. ;-)
I grew up there....my lips are sealed
dude i almost thought u where not secured but then i saw the line goddamn sweaty hands from you dude...
ahhhhhh...hell no! Have fun boys!!
welcome to maersk airlines
Geez I didn't see you hook up at first/thought you were just hanging toes off the edge w no safety

Thank You! There really aren't many people that understand what we do, or the dangers we face each and every day. Thanks again.
Was that the Emma maersk?
Olympic Outdoors Dad Really don’t remember. Could be. I know I have worked the Emma.
Olympic Outdoors Dad shouldnt be ,last i heard emma didnt frequent the states often. She wont even fit in alot of our ports.
I'm sure Emma is a HHH class a lot bigger than this
Kelt Thomas I was starting to think the same.
Olympic Outdoors Dad saying that on watching this again the bridge is centre of the ship the same as the HHH Emma this might be Emma
They are so non shel ante about it talking about apple
You would almost swear I was doing an advertisement for Apple Care. At that point I had forgotten that I had the GoPro on my hardhat.
Great vid - Got vertigo just watching lol.
