    I need to do this to my santa cruz and i have some questions! First, it looks like this tool JUST fits the larger bearings, how do you remove the two smaller bearings on the upper link? Second, theres supposed to be a spacer between the bearings on the two sides, isn't that spacer going to make it so that tool can't actually grab behind the bearing?

    • @leonardnick6019
      @leonardnick6019 ปีที่แล้ว

      I made my own tool to remove the smaller bearings, start watching the video around 5:00. You could accomplish this various ways, using sockets, etc. I saw that Santa Cruz is now including a spacer between the bearings, and you're right, this bearing removal tool won't work if there's a spacer. The spacers I saw had a notch cut in the end so you could stick a punch in from the opposite side and hit the edge of the bearing (since the punch would fit through the notch). You would then work your way around the bearing until it is fully removed. Once the first bearing and spacer is removed, you could use this tool to remove the second bearing, although you would probably just use the punch again.

    I got 2 , dhr 2s a couple years ago . The rear one started weeping after 6 months . I photoed the tire ID and they upgraded me with a dhf maxtera because they were out of dhr2 duel compound . I put that on the front and put the other dhr on the back . That weep at 1.5 years later and now a bit over 2 years developed a bulge in the tread area . Now it's a tire with allot of miles but I know this batch of maxxis minions has a separation issue . I bought the tires from Spain at a good discount . I figure it's a old batch that had a known defect and sold them anyway . It was to late for warranty for second tire and the problem did not manifest till I put in the rear which takes more force . Weep and bulging is sign of tire separation .

    How do you know it's properly seated. Did you use soapy water and a tire seating tool? Did you overinflate, seat it with the tool, then released some pressure? Fully seated and properly seated are not the same thing.

    I've had maxxis tires that have looked like that, looked seated correctly and everything. I took the tire off and messed with it and I got much better. I'm not saying it doesn't look seated correctly but consider redoing it if you haven't because it helped me with my maxxis tires. Any update on findings?

    • @leonardnick6019
      @leonardnick6019 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've had this happen on a couple Maxxis tires too.. I did try reseating these a couple times but the result was the same. I only posted this video to help with the warranty/return process, and I just returned them. I was hoping these could be a cost effective alternative to Maxxis, and they do seem like decent tires, but ultimately I still prefer Maxxis and their higher cost is worth it to me. The Delium tires also didn't seem to roll quite as well, as if the rubber compound caused more drag. I've experienced that same feeling with Specialized tires.

    I've had so many issues with these E4 brakes. I've inherited a bike from a friend while he's away and already put a ton of money into his bike. I've bled these multiple times several different ways. No way there's air on my lines. It sat in storage for awhile and the pistons where seized. I fixed that issue, but now I just don't have any power. barely any. At the lever, it sounds like it's sucking air in. I need need to get this thing going otherwise I'm out the cost of the drive train and dropper I put on. Can you give me an idea of what parts I should replace. Sounds like the piston is leaking air? Great vid. Question, please -- Did you ever have a gap form between the lower linkage and the rear triangle, on the drive side of the bike? (I have a Nomad 3.) When I screw in the pivot axel bolt into the rear triangle, the tab the bolt screws into is pushed away from the linkage - leaving a 1-2 mm gap. It super tight/flush on the non-drive / bolt insertion side. If so, any solutions to fixing it? Thanks!

    • @leonardnick6019
      @leonardnick6019 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, I never experienced that. Is everything normal where the linkage connects to the main triangle? It almost sounds as if the linkage is offset relative to the rear triangle- too tight on the non-drive side and not tight enough on the drive side.

    • @dancing8595
      @dancing8595 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@leonardnick6019 It seems to be normal at the main triangle connection. Even spacing on both side of the linkage. When the bolt is not tightened down the linkage sits evenly between the two mounting tabs of the rear triangle.

    The more I dig through videos the more people I find having this issue. Seems as if it’s been going on for years now looking at upload dates. - I got one earlier last year with a terrible wobble/bulge. And, the warranty replacement tire had the exact same terrible bulge. Maxxis, please figure out why it’s happening this frequently. For anyone having the issue, you need to contact Maxxis for a replacement, or the place of purchase.

  • @sztigirigi
    @sztigirigi 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    The problem in most cases is not the tire. It's the installation on new type of rims - carbon rims. They are usually much tighter than aluminum equivalent. The damage happens when the tire is overstretched by the tire lever.

    • @leonardnick6019
      @leonardnick6019 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s true that tires fit tighter on some rims than they do on others, but I never use tire levers to install tires. Maybe they would be needed with DH casing or Double Down, but I typically use EXO or EXO+. I’m always able to install them without tire levers, on my rims at least, even though they are carbon.

Stupidly I didn’t realise the difference in the seals and I ended up breaking the primary seal whist installing it in the secondary seal location. I ended up running the bigger seal on both locations and the bigger seal was noticeably baggy. I put it back together and bled them hoping it would work. To find the exact same issue you had in your first video. New parts on order now and lesson learnt. Jim- uk
